Boxing/kickboxing. I absolutely love it and it's a great workout! A decent gym will mostly do sparring separately to the classes, so it'd mostly be technique work and cardio.0

Now I have a young child I don't have as much time as I'd like for my hobbies, but I'd still count them as hobbies for now - lacemaking, batik, playing an instrument, tie-dying, and I'd love to take up dancing again, and go for more walks (used to go on long walks regularly with DH).
OP, I think you should try all the suggested hobbies out, then write a book about your experiences. Your hobby could be 'trying different hobbies'!!0 -
Interesting post! Its something that i have been thinking about recently.
I have decided to look into taking up astronomy - just starting with the basics. My OH is getting me a telescope for xmas - havent decided what to get yet thought - seems to be quite a lot of info out there!
I have always enjoyed gazing at the night sky...having a little one limits free time during day light hours...so this seemed a perfect hobbie to dedicate sometime too.:)0 -
BEAR - I love my regular cups of tea in the RAF building. In fact we have just got back as we popped to croome tonight for an hour to see if we could spot any wildlife. Didn't see anything but last fri a deer jumped out in front of my car so I always drive slowly on those roads.
It's the most amazing place to reflect. Xxx0 -

Lou there were a series of programmes on Tv last year i think it was run in conjunction with Liverpool Uni, they have weekly meetings where you can meet and talk to the experts, and use their equipment. I went ro a couple of meets, the first was foggy but still interesting. They told us if we thought we'd like to get into it more not to go out to the likes of Argos buying things but to join a group and buy decent equipment off other members who were often up-grading.
I don't suppose you're around Liverpool but maybe if you contact them they can steer you towards somewhere local.

Stellarium is good for astronomy, - shows you what planets and stars are visible and in what direction. It's up to date and accurate, you just have to hope for a clear night!0 -

I'm tempted to start kickboxing, but am quite intimidated - how 'hardcore' are beginners courses; do you need some level of fitness before starting? I only do fencing once a week at the moment, and still on a very low level.October 2012 wins: MAOAM retro bag

I used to do TaeKwondo and got a green belt (about halfway to black belt) before my back degenerated. I really really would love to go to black belt level - but, that is impossible for me. for any one wondering how fit you have to be to start Kickboxing or TaeKwondo or any martial art - normal fitness levels UNLESS your local club can cater for less abled students. always ask! depending on the instructor, some clubs concentrate on the 'sporting' aspect while others are happy to include all levels of ability.0

I'm a bit of a collector of hobbies, I get completely obsessed when I first start but then my interest peters off a bit, haven't done much recently due to a depression.
I like playing guitar and singing, family history research, wine making, sewing (only got as far as half-making a massive quilt made of my old jeans), cooking & baking generally, growing fruit and veg, finding new ways to save money, recently started learning to sketch, foraging, tried tae kwon do but couldn't cope with sparring (can't stand the thought of hitting someone) - all of these can be solitary or with people (I love my own company)
There really isn't enough time and life is far too short!Final cigarette smoked 02/01/18
