• Ooooh! I've been watching this thread from the beginning - though it's worth reading all 141 messages if you haven't.

I hope you sell your story to the daily's and make something (cash/fame whatever).
:j I hope my comment helps :T
• I wonder if the advice and links from this thread might be compiled to create a 'What to look for if your phone is stolen' page?

From looking back, i've seen:
Dropbox
Geolocation from photos on dropbox
Google Dashboard (to get the new SIM code if it's been swapped)
Samsung Dive
Various Android apps

well have been reading this thread from the start and yes is worth reading all, me and my wife just got our new s3 turned on about week ago as came with no instructions to speak of as such, very poor imho even the downloadable pdf isn't that remarkable is for icecream sandwich even though now on new software memory blank sorry lol.
http://downloadcenter.samsung.com/content/UM/201205/20120514114339308/GT-I9300_UM_EU_Icecream_Eng_Rev.1.0_120511_Screen.pdf

anyway have set up Samsung dive on web and all different settings on phone very very useful tool to know of and over time and phones these will improve i'm sure.
shame they don't develop it to using face camera to take pictures using before and after using phone using motion sensing and burst shots and send photos automatically to police would be nice helpful add on for the police i'm sure would make there job easier.

and yes they should make a sticky guide for all of this you got my vote.

many thanks

• Basil - I use a tool called 'Tasker' that lets you write macros for your phone. It's amazingly powerful.

It wouldn't be too hard to write one that would receive a text message, such as "Stolen", turn on GPS, take photos using the front and back cameras and upload them to your dropbox folder. You'd probably also want to enable GPS - geotagging of photos.

Not sure how you'd get a good photo of the person that was using the phone though.. maybe you could make it wait until someone was browsing the web - then take some bursts of photos

Being a software developer on the Atari ST (a long time ago, I know!), I'm half tempted to become an Apple Developer for iOS and write an app which allows people whose phone has been stolen to do the following things -:

1) Locate the phone, even if GPS etc is turned off (by being able to remotely turn it on).
2) Take bursts of photo's of the thief when the phone is being "looked at" (some phones know when they are being used by continually scanning for eye movements), and to email this instantly to the real phone owners E-mail address (along with geotagging information)
3) Being able to remotely text the stolen phone might have its uses.

etc etc.

I'm sure it wouldn't be too hard to do all of this.

What do people think?

If you could write an app that persuades people that the handset they have is quite good enough and they don't really need to commit to a 24 month expensive upgrade, that would help more.

Apples 'walled garden' approach to things might make that quite tough to do..

Hi Guys,
I am compelled to write this because a lot of questions about how to do the tracing/locating stolen/lost mobile phone,
here I do not want to discuss about stolen mobile phone which previously been installed with several anti theft or anti lost applications because many forums or blogs that have discussed this issue and you can easily find it through a search engine.
Now what about a mobile phone that has not been previously installed anti lost applications?whether it can be traced its existence?
in fact, the number of such cases is pretty much and even exceed the 60% of cases. please investigate this matter and you will definitely find a number of fantastic figures.
Because the point mentioned above, encouraged me to be able to find the solution and after conducting an investigation and have spent a lot of time ,effort and quite a bit of money so in the end I have found a solution for it.
The system I use is to utilize the BTS around the target and calculate the speed of the signals between the cell phone to the Bts then I can determine the exact location of the target This system is known as Tringualation or Cell Tower Triangulation.
With this system so I can track/pinpoint the location of the target by the Mobile Phone Number Only,
If at this moment you are experiencing problem like those mentioned above you do not need to do anything complicated, please just send me an email along with your lost/stolen phone number and IMEI number and and I will gladly provide assistance to you to find the location.
---Anti Phone Terror----
