I'm thinking of a big data, financial system type thing with a web interface/Android app...

So by big data, do you roughly mean that you plan on re-purposing/mashing up data that is available in the public domain? Or is it just a buzz phrase? :p

If so, I take it you can't design anything that would connect to financial providers directly, like software that automatically checks values (say savings or S&S ISA balances from multiple sources and then presents them on one page)?

I would like a MFP type app but for mortgage ops. Or a really good budgeting app.or one that would hypnotise every murderer in the country to KILL MICHAEL GOVE.

Might be more straightforward if it offered Michael Gove a irresistible new job messing up something else and LEAVING EDUCATION ALONE. It would save money on police investigations, court time and prison costs. ;)

Haha :p No, the lecturer I am looking at for a supervisor has recently started a 'Big Data' PostGrad and has a lot of links with industry. Depends on what we can convince under an education title...

I don't actually know. Your idea sounds very interesting though. Will mention it and see what I get.

Noted - good idea for an app :) Thanks.

Mmm, a bit! I could get it to run an animation loop of a tree growing money, just not a real one I'm afraid!

I really need to read the news...

Zumba was really good fun, but ow! My shoulders/arms and the muscle right above your knees (hamstring? Quad?!) is soooore. Good sore though. Didn't expect to enjoy it so much, and wasn't self conscious like I thought.

Bad MFW things: Was so busy I forgot all about the Home Insurance and it's auto renewed. Will need to look at comparison sites tonight and see what the damage is.
Spent nearly £100 today - bought a gym membership. Uni gym works out at less than £10 a month, so decided it's worth it. Wish me luck! It'll be one thing to go to Zumba with friends, but another to go the gym alone among lots of slim Sports Science students!
Friend's hen night next week - have dropped a dress size so treating myself to an outfit, all my jeans are falling down now!

    Spendy spend spend...

That wasn't an idea Cal, it already exists :rotfl:

It was a question - does the data realistically have to be freely available in the public domain to plug into your app?

I think I've answered my own question.

I have an idea already, what sort of profit split are we talking here? I bring no IT skills, but the idea is golden :D
