What's your accommodation like? Will there be room for us :D?

Congrats on the internship Cal, can't say I'm in the least bit surprised :)

Aw, thanks :o Everyone on here is so nice and I don't know what to say. I think if you had heard the interview you would have agreed with me!

Sorry, still waiting on details myself! It is eight weeks, mid June until end of first week in August. Had to email to confirm acceptance today, so will get paperwork and visas and whatnot started very soon. I will keep you updated!
Time for holiday... well we will be working Mon-Fri, so technically we have time for weekend trips! :D Very close to Orlando, the Bahamas, Cuba.... My friend's been to Orlando/Caribbean a few times so they're going to help me see if I can work in any wee trips :D

Don't know yet! Paid for though  There are 5/6 of us going to the same company for different internships, so I think we'll be sharing an apartment. They've warned us that we may have to share too
I'm sure it'll be typically student digs, doubt it's your sort of hotel :rotfl:

Hi Cal, pretty sure the accommodation will be good. If it's anything like ours, we like our interns in the US to see the best of us - we want them to come back :T

Thanks Tilly :) It's a bit complex - basically I joined a company who works in Scotland getting prestigious internships all over the world. They convince the companies (who include IBM and the like) to join up to their program by saying they will 'pre-test' the students and leave them with only the good ones.
Hence 1600 applicants -> 500 to interview -> 250 to cover letter stage.
Then once in the 250, you get a list of internships, can apply for up to 3, rank them in preference. Even then, the actual company for the internship hasn't heard of you or seen your cover letter. The intermediate company looks at all the cover letters and the preference you've given the company, then picks the top 3/4 for each internship. THEN (!) your CV, cover letter, application and all details are forwarded to company to look at, they may choose to interview all 3/4 or only interview two, they do interviews and decide.

From there on, if you don't get past interview, you get a second internship list released to you, and a third... etc and start from the cover letter stage each time. Thank goodness I don't have to do that!

Point of that was to say intermediate company organises accommodation so don't know that company will have much say over it!

Sounds terrifying to me :rotfl: According to MFP 1180 calories per hour, but that sounds a bit high. Will be shattered by time done,
in Uni 9-3 with two meetings, no break for lunch :'( Then home, change, drive to Zumba etc, won't be home before 8.30. Don't know whether to try and squeeze dinner in before of leave to after.

Thinking of what I would like to do for my dissertation, I'm thinking of a big data, financial system type thing with a web interface/Android app...

Any thoughts would be very helpful! What do you use currently, what things do you wish it had?
