Nothing new to add Cal, the others have said it all but have a dodgy hug :grouphug:.
A positive attitude may not solve all your problems, but it will annoy enough people to make it worth the effort

Hi Cal, even if it didn't go well and they don't choose to take you in, you now have experience of all that can go wrong in terms of accessing vcc, of audio interviews and of types of questions asked etc. Now you can take that into your next, and there will be other ones.

Have a glass of wine and enjoy dinner.

    Best wishes Tilly x

Thanks Tilly. I had 250ml of peach and apricot cider - totally worth using up my spare calories for :)

Hi Cal, I've been thinking about you.

Firstly, you should be proud of yourself, this sounds like a tough interview, and would phase almost all of us out there.

Secondly, my very worst interviews have always resulted in a job offer - I kid you not, so you never know.

Thirdly, sometimes it's the interviewers who are c@cks, and not the candidate (see point 2 above)

Fourthly, you are still awesome and we all love you LOADS!

    NPX

Thanks NP. You always know how to make me laugh. If I do get an internship with them I'm going to have to seriously consider the level of the applicants :rotfl: Love you all too :kisses3:

PS couldn't have put this ^^^ better myself!

    :o
Crivens Cal, sounds exactly like the job interview I had with Google in Edinburgh many many moons ago (i.e. we're taking a range of skills, but only the exact ones we want and haven't disclosed). The technical setup alone sounds like a total 'mare, I am not surprised you were a little flustered. To quote grans everywhere, 'what's for you will not go by you'. Now relax, sure you did well no matter how annoyed you feel atm :)

Aye, sounds like it! It makes you wonder, why go to the bother of advertising, joining company to advertise internships and then doing half-assed job of interviews? And the thing about the skills is spot on, exactly. It's a waste of an application, and both of our time if I'm applying for something that is different to what they are looking for etc.

Anyway. Two other chances, and if not my supervisor has said she wants me to work with her again this summer, she said to me "Of course I want it for your sake but if you don't get in and end up working with me I'll try not to be too gleeful" :rotfl: She is lovely, so I just need to apply for funding and write an application etc and decide on topic.

Thanks :) This is gonna be one huge dodgy hug with all the support! :j

Dinner of omelette with pepper through it, carrot sticks, beetroot and tomato and cheese flatbread - can you tell a random collection of things needs used up? :D

Emailed one of two Honours project choices to start the ball rolling. In middle of application for another internship. Will need to ask supervisor about starting application process for summer project as back-up. Need to make lunch for tomorrow, early start, why am I still up?! Argh.

Obsessed with Pharell song 'Happy' just now, makes me feel cheerful :)

Thanks for the support, you are all so lovely and bring me up. Glad to have found this community, never mind the moneysaving part. At least it's just an internship job, I'm young, even the interview is an experience, it's not like I'm applying for a job and worried about money etc. Counting blessing and all that.

Stealing from Lois, who may have got it from elsewhere:

[1] Thankful that supervisor really wants to work with me again.
[2] Thankful for having a laugh with OH tonight, and it's now his birthday!
[3] Thankful that my new healthy eating still leaves me room for additional treats like a wee cider.
[4] Thankful for my new mattress (still in love :smileyhea) and my warm and comfortable house
[5] Thankful for you lot, little squishies all of you.

    Night all x

    Thanks NP :) Fingers crossed!

Mr Cal is a simple soul, bless, I'm asking what he wants for his bday and I get a shrug. :rotfl: So mission today is to buy him the biggest chocolatiest cake I can find, he loves chocolate cake. Anybody have a tried and tested supermarket chocolate cakes, would love to hear from you.

It is soooooo cold today, feels frosty. Did not want to get out of bed this morning. But empty classroom, good music and coloured pens to write up my first day notes, I'm happy :)

-2.2lb this week, -10lb in total for last 4 weeks since I started. On one hand yay, on other MFP has reduced my daily calorie allowance

Hope everyone has a good day :)

Cal, so sorry to hear about your mouldy interview. As you say, it's all practice. Glad you have some other options to fall back on.

Need to decide on Honours project, 3 choices just now but only two serious contenders. One is safe option, I know I like project area, supervisor has good record, would be great example of project to show in job interviews etc, supervisor seems really organised. Other one, supervisor doesn't have the same level of organisation as me, a bit more laid back, no clear plan of project, just ideas floating around, topic I've never done - have to do it for a year and risk I may not like it, etc. And obviously I need it to be of sufficient complexity to get a first.

Disorganised supervisors and nebulous project ideas have a nasty way of turning into total nightmares. Beware! Here be dragons!

I'm not sure if I'm too late Cal but someone bought me a yummy chocolatey birthday cake from sainsbury's at the weekend - was fab.

I love the word choice - mouldy is hilarious. Thanks :)

And yep, that's what I'm thinking. He's lovely, relatable, has helped me get other positions like G00gly, is really inspirational and funny. So that's all positive about him, but I know with previous semesters and assignments that he's not been the most organised and things have gotten back to us late etc. So that is my main worry. I know that my preferred method is to be told "do x, y and z by Wed" and then I go do it, I like detail and structured plans.
So, yeah, my brain is saying other one, and my heart is saying 'but my favourite lecturer! :('

Meeting with potential supervisor on Thursday to talk more about project idea and see if we'd be a good fit etc, scary biscuits. He's a big gruff guy I've not had in any lectures before so a bit of a scary unknown. Project idea is right up my street though, databases, web design, integration with new technologies like custom G00gly Maps, and, it's about BOOKS! Couldn't be more me :rotfl:

Yay! That's exactly the one I ended up getting, it looks really yummy. But OH is too full from dinner he says! :rotfl:

    _______________________________________________

Chinese takeaway tonight requested by OH. I had chicken and sweetcorn soup, a chicken satay skewer (especially delish) and some chow mein - STUFFED.

Nice evening of blethering and catching up on TV shows, followed by early start tomorrow.

The best way I revise is by writing out notes and key points. Every semester I end up in a mad dash at study leave time to write up a module's worth of work, usually I do some during the year but get sidetracked. I'm determined not to do that this semester, going in for 9 o'clock tomorrow, first lecture at 12 so have 3 hours to write up 4 lectures we've had so far.
Then out to cinema :o Friend gets us in 100% free so I try not to feel too guilty, just petrol money I'm using.

BIG projects this semester, but I'm quite excited. I don't deal with abstraction in code well, I like to understand how things work. Last semester we had to do a design plan for a system but no code, I couldn't get my head around it because I need to be able to image the code and flow of info for design program. This year, it is the opposite way around, we get given design and have to implement code. Yay! Group work again though, nervous as to who I end up in a group with.
Other one is making a platform computer game, like Mario on the GameBoy for example. Complete free reign on design and storyline of game, my head is buzzing with ideas. No illusions about the amount of hours and tearing head out this will cause though!!

    Cal x

Ahaha! My subconscious is speaking to me!

If it's any consolation I don't plan on tearing my head out, I don't think that'd help the process! :rotfl:
