Hey Loisy-woisy
Glad to see you back. I was wondering where you were, but didn't realise that English holidays didn't start until July! Scotland is usually the end of June.
Thanks for the enthusiastic welcome back.
English school holidays usually start somewhere in the second half of July and finish in the first full week of September. We usually get 6 weeks - and the kids get an extra day or two while we have inset.Project is generating computer models and analysis of radiation induced bystander effect in cancer treatment. Basically, current treatment does not take into account this RIBE when determining cancer treatment. In low doses of radiation, out of the number of cells killed, up to 90% can be caused by this effect, so better understanding and modelling could help better treatment. Etc etc
Sounds important work. Good luck with it.Sister has been over for few days now, and I'm exhausted from driving her about, picking up after her etc. Having kids must be a million times more exhausting!
Definitely exhausting. Most years when I get back to school in September and people ask me how my holidays were, I smile at them and tell them I have come back to work for a rest. The ones with kids nod understandingly; the ones without kids think I am joking but they are wrong. (Actually, it's beginning to get less exhausting now they're getting older.)My internship starts in about 3 weeks!! I reaaaally hope it is cooler by then, I've heard London gets really hot
Exciting exciting. It's a week in London, isn't it? And then do you go back to where you are now for the internship itself? How long is that for?Starting again 13/4/19Home loan 1: £21,102.50 Home loan 2: £7,698.99Total owed: £28,801.49

It is a week in London yesCurrent project is 8 weeks paid, but I will be working on it longer as it gives me something to do during summer and we are writing a paper on it, which means I will have published work in my second year

In other news, I am a silly billy. Since I got mortgage when I was 19, I didn't know that much about it (age is no excuse though)! I've been wanting to go onto a fixed deal, but thought I wouldn't pass affordability checks now as I've gone from full-time employment to full-time education.
Gave NationW a phone, and if I'm staying with them and not borrowing any more, I can do it online, no affordability check etc and £100 cashback that I can put straight onto the mortgage! It would mean we are limited to 10% OP, but we can't afford near 10% anyway. 10% would be my entire wage!
AND, I thought you had to have valuation fees and solicitors fees etc again, but apparently that is only if remortgaging with different lender/borrowing more/moving etc. Excited for OH to get home so we can discuss. Puts my mind at ease, was talking to friend who works in bank and she was saying 'FIX NOW!'. I know rates can only go up, and I think they will soon. The fixes we are looking at are actually below our current SVR, so we would be paying less, which means more to OP!!
Very excited about this, hope everything goes to plan.
Feeling a bit blah today, all joints are sore and achy, so warm bath and relaxing evening methinks, just have a few project things to write up0 -
Well that's mortgage sorted out! Long phonecall but done. Had a heart attack as guy said the rate I wanted wasn't available as they had the value of the house dropped 2.5k from what we bought it at, and so our LTV wasn't below 85% anymore
Don't know how he did it, but agent managed to change value on system after we'd gone through renovations we'd done to the house, so we could get rate we wanted.
Downside is the term has stayed as what it was meant to be, so now our mortgage is not ending early, the monthly payments have been reduced over the term instead. But as OH pointed out, this means our minimum payment is as low as possible whilst I'm at uni, I can still overpay up to 10% over the year, and once I'm out on uni for a couple of years the fixed rate will have ended, and we can mess around with the term and everything there once everything is more stable.
Makes sense, but the impatient me wants everything to happen now!0 -
Cal, for what it's worth, I think that you are in the best position possible.
But then perhaps my faculties are going (and I'm smelling of wee)February13 - £74990 (or thereabouts)
MND - Let's go for 2020 'cos it's got a nice ring to it:D

Thanks NPI'm just such an impatient character.
And I can't smell you from here, and since we're in the same geographical area I'm going to say you must be fine0 -

Thanks Lois
Mortgage has broken the 55k barrier with this month's payment, and is low enough that interest won't take it back over this month! :T
