Who will it be Romney or Obama?

Heard Romney say he was "selling optimism" (new fragrance in the shops at Christmas?) and Springsteen supporting Obama talking about "American Dream v. American Reality".
Perhaps they should be selected like the head of the RC church in Egypt, a random blindfolded child selecting between the two?
Who do we think will get the vote?

Totally illogical, but Obama has presided over 4 years of total bad news in USA. It is human nature (especially amongst Americans - who are not known for understanding politics) over there to reject the status quo in this case.
Romney will win.0 -
Romney might have won had he campaigned as he was Governor of Ma.
However, for reasons best known to themselves, the looney republicans insist on their candidate having to take up their oddball, right wing, socially conservative positions. Most of these were the complete opposite to Romneys previous history as a governor.
He probably could have made a decent domestic president had the tea party nuts not hi-jacked the GOP.
Even the republicans acknowledge that they don't have enough "angry white men" to win.
Obama wins and probably gets close to 330 electoral college votes (270 to win).
The Tea Party will then no doubt decide that they need a more extreme candidate next time. Its hilarious.US housing: it's not a bubble - Moneyweek Dec 12, 20050 -
Romney just said 26million can't get, haven't got are in poor paying employment. 16% live below the poverty line.
Families living on food aid not just benefit.

Although Romney has backtracked on it the '49% are victims' speech for me was 100% correct. It has been like this here for years folk want something for nothing or feel they are 'entitled' to something.
The British press have not really given us a balanced look at what each candidate stands for especially Romney and they have him down as some type of Hawk looking for trouble but from the bits I hear inc tax cuts I like the cut of his jib as our cousins would say.0 -

We in Britain certainly get a 'biased' press. Despite that, we tend to think about it in the same way we would look at a UK election. Many believe Americans to be equally "rational" when it comes to electing their president.
Nothing could be further from the truth. Americans are emotional when they elect. For want of a more detailed explanation, it's basically about how often, and how sincerely, the candidate says "I believe in America".
Mark my words. Americans are deeply upset (financially) and their 'emotional' side will blame Obama for the troubles, and elect Romney to get them out of it. You can argue all you like about what you would do, or what the British would do.
But in the end, they want to punish the guy they perceive has robbed them of prosperity for 4 years.0 -

I suspect a lot of folk on both sides of the pond don't realise the amount of debt they have or the consequences of not getting a reduction in place via an agreement.
I can't remember the dat but the can is in view and if they dont agree to deal with it the automatic tax hikes and PS cuts will make Europe and the UK look like a storm in a teacup.0 -
US politics are so depressing. On the one hand you have someone who thinks you can spend forever, and that the bigger the state is the better.
On the other hand you have someone who thinks that tax cuts for the wealthy, increased spending on the military and welfare cuts are the way to go, and he's "backed" by a party of extremists.0 -
This election is going to be too close to call IMHO. Don't forget a draw is possible and isn't just a theoretical possibility: there are an even number of people voted into the electoral college which then votes for president.0

Well what happens if it is a dead heat?
Perhaps we could recommend to them the concept of a coalition. The boy Ryan could stand down. Mitt would be President. Obama could be Vice President, and do everything he is told to do.
That way, neither of them have to be tied down to what they said in their manifestos.0 -

In the event of an electoral college dead heat, then congress elects the president and the senate elects the vp.
So you end up with a Romney/Biden pairing, assuming current majorities hold.
But Obama will probably win.“The great enemy of the truth is very often not the lie – deliberate, contrived, and dishonest – but the myth, persistent, persuasive, and unrealistic.
Belief in myths allows the comfort of opinion without the discomfort of thought.”
