I agree, up to a point, as this is probably what people thought when they started downloading music illegally, and then they started receiving letters.
Or those using Swiss banks, one of the most secretive banking systems in the world,, until the USA government managed to fine the banks, force one to close, and is requesting them to hand over names of account holders (don't think this has happened yet, maybe banks will find a way out of it).
Basically, the US seems to have established that they have worldwide jurisdiction (while UK can't even get equal extradition rights if a US citizen is involved).
Slightly OT, but people should not make assumptions, the internet is controlled by the USA, in terms of governance and main infrastructure (ICANN, IANA, as well as easy access to large databases of data e.g. google and social networking, all american companies).0 -
The point i'm trying to make is yes, its pretty much impossible to be truly anonymous online even using a VPN but accessing a geographically restricted website or opening a betting account via a VPN is probably done by 1000's of people everyday. I mean come on, we're not talking about kiddy fiddlers or terrorists. There are thousands of legal VPN co's out there, they would all have been closed by now if the govt had an issue with them.0

Why would they close them down when they give people the illusion of anonymity, while still allowing full access to the govt....
your arguments are the same used about illegal musc downloading, people still do it and most get away with it. I'm not saying what people should or should not do, it's up to them, but I think it's just important that they are aware of the implications, so that they can make informed decisions.
Personally.. I've just downloaded ultrasurf and will probably give it a try, why not. I think the risk at the moment is quite low, but know that a heavy handed crackdown is always possible when commercial interests are hurt, still a small risk overall.
....and let's not forget that here we are talking about pc's, where there is still some control, not tablets/mobile phones, where everything you do is logged by apple/google, the manufacturer and the apps you use0 -

Ideally I would like a free one but would consider paying if necessary.
Just to be clear - it is not that I want to stop anyone who was looking at my pc from seeing what I have been looking at (I think I could use chrome incognito for that) but it is so I can open an account with a company without them knowing it is me.
Many thanks.
i will help0 -

You can hide your IP by using software form free-hide-ip.en.softonic.com
After you can check your IP address at IP-Details.com before and after this process..0 -
I used proxy server for a while but to be honest its hard to find a good proxy company that uses IPs from UK. Most of these companies provide you with IPs from the states or sometimes Europe if your lucky. Most IPs are given to many customers simultaneously and they become slow and sometimes unusable.0

I don't believe that it is possible for more than one device to be connected to the internet - using one IP address !!0 -

It can.
It's called NAT (network address translation) each IP address can have many other IP addresses linked to it.
Easy example is your home network. You have only 1 external ip address from your ISP but you can have many devices on your network each with internet access via that single ip address.
Vpn's do something like that.Laters

Yes it is
IP address sharing is common.
A lot of mobile phones will be using it to connect to the internet.
Plusnet even ran a public trial of it last year - its called CGNAT
I'm told BT internet are now using it for some low user usage internet accounts.
The driver for the use of CGNAT is the dwindling number of IP4 addresses available to ISP's.0
