Above post is absaloutely correct. I am genuinely sorry to hear about this, especially just before christmas - it must be very hard for you. All you can do is grovel, say that you have seen the error in your ways and that you have been very stupid but I honestly don't think you have much chance at all I'm afraid. I am really sorry for you. I think you will just have to learn from this and move on. I would stronly suggest you start a job search now. How is your CV looking? Good to go? I have lots of experience with CVs - if you need any help at all I am happy to go through it and discuss it with you. If not no worries, the offer is there free of course. Awww such a bad time for this to happen, I feel for you, I really do.0

At least you have the right attitude to the whole episode; for that alone I do wish you well.madison-nyc wrote: »....

'What does your IT policy actually say? If your policy doesn't specifically ban any discussion on FB about work, I don't believe that they have grounds to dismiss.
OP has less than a year's service. The employer doesn't need grounds to dismiss.'
In any case, employers are not required to list out every single thing that employees are not permitted to, and a moment's thought shows that simply isn't possible anyway. It doesn't say in anyone's contract that you can't bring in a tin of red paint and throw it all over the walls either, but that would also get you sacked.Cash not ash from January 2nd 2011: £2565.:j
OU student: A103 , A215 , A316 all done. Currently A230 all leading to an English Literature degree.
Any advice given is as an individual, not as a representative of my firm.0 -

Do i just omit the job completely from my cv? with me only being there for 4 months it wouldn't leave a huge gap , could just say i took a bit of time out with the kids and whilst i started college etc.?
can't believe this is happening really , what daft thing for me to do?! I genuinely didn't think it was any different to texting or messaging each other , all but 2 people in the group were on my friends list anyway so i already communicated via facebook , it just didn't seem any different to put us all in one group. Oh well , live and learn as they say. can't change it now.
Your argument should be that this is no different from a chat next to the water-cooler...that you made it confidential and it's the people that mentioned or slagged off clients that should be being disciplined. That you did it with the best of intentions and as you all work away from the office, perhaps you all need a 'proper' set up to be able to discuss work matters.
Grovel, apologise and say that you did it with the best of intentions and you never expected people to start disrespecting clients on there. If you haven't got it - please don't flaunt it. TIA.0 -
Let this be a lesson to you and anyone else reading this thread.
Do not slag off your employer where conversations are logged(!), and especially when you are still within your probationary period.
Protect your own interests, because no one else will.0 -
How can you prove that the group was private if the group no longer exists?0

I am so sorry to hear this, but don't give up! You need to try to explain that you did the wrong thing for the right reason, that you genuinely wanted to communicate with colleagues, wanted to be accepted in the team and that you thought it would be of benefit to the company. You may get away with just coming across as stupid and thoughtless rather than malicious and damaging. You could get a final written warning rather than dismissal, or if they want rid, you could negotiate a resignation rather than a dismissal.0

But you aren't in trouble for communicating are you? You are in trouble as you set up a private page on FB where people could slag off the company & someone in the higher powers got wind of it.madison-nyc wrote: »I've never been disciplined before never mind sacked! how do i get round it on my cv? can hardly put them as a reference if i am sacked.
