No, having read your reply, I found that I was in agreement with you ZTD, and my suggestion wouldn't work well......and your compliment was taken in the spirit it was intended :D

Lynz - point taken, I should have said 'for me personally' rather than generalising. But I just think it would become very 'dry' if the social side was taken away.

No one's talking about taking the social side away. I'm talking about a lot of the nonsense which is posted daily. That coupled with some downright nastiness which is driving folk away.

Well the nastiness is much harder to deal with to be honest. It's often established people from other boards who should know better.

The nonsense is easy - split the long-term help&support side from the immediate help&support side and have 2 boards.

Kind of a chronic/acute treatment split if you like.

Shouldn't the board guides be stepping in though if something inappropriate is posted? How would you police what is nonsense and what is socialising? (Obviously some would be clearly one or the other but the line can be blurred). I'm not disagreeing with you (in fact I agree), I'm just not sure what can be done about it.

They can't really. It's not their job. That's the job of "Abuse" who work (presumably) 9-5. Depending on what "inappropiate" is...

What you do is have all the nonsense on the social/diaries board, and all the serious stuff on the "newbies" board.

Let's face it, newbies aren't going to be reading diaries as their first port of call, so aren't going to be put off by the nonsense.

I mean inappropriate as in 'in the wrong place' rather than abusive....so for example if they think something should definitely be in the Arms, they can move it there. But then where would you put the DFW Meet stuff - it's not debt related but it does support those who are in it for the long haul. Oh god, I can't even form my own argument, let alone answer anyone elses.... :o

The long term/short term split is an interesting idea though.

well, the meet stuff is debt related in as much as it supports the long term people. I don't think the board should be just about newbies that would be rubbish.

Maybe I shouldn't have said anything in the first place because I'm not sure what the answer is. Perhaps my issue is selfish in that I don't feel as welcome as I once did and I know others feel the same. Perhaps it is just a cyclical thing and I'm sad because people have left. But Z asked so I told him how I felt (let's blame z). I don't want people to think they can't post social stuff, but I do sometimes wish people would post less of it, or post it in the arms. There's no reason why a DFW clique can't descend upon them :D

I'm probably one of the more 'seasoned' members of this forum so I've got used to seeing people come and go as sad as it is.

Those of you who speak of the people who have left who used to offer great advice, well now it's your turn to step into those shoes. People won't be here forever. They move on to their new debt free lives.

Take it upon yourselfs to help others. In years to come, the people you help today and tomorrow will be remembering you with fond memories like you are now.

Help the debt free wanabee legacy live on. :)
