Oh sorry ZTD, I didn't mean a separate board, just a separate thread. So it's still on DFW, but contained in one thread rather than split across a number of different 'social' threads. The difficulty is that if it is too tightly controlled, and the social side is taken away, people will lose interest and drift away.

If newbies come and ask a question about say "whats the cheapest way to refit my bathroom" surely long haulers like us ZTD should be saying- ask about this in the In my home section- as we are able to educate the newbies among us into getting the most out of the whole site - surely

Yes, but that's for newbies who are probably lost. What about when you deliberately ask about things on this board. Not because of it's title (DFW) - but because of its culture of friendliness.

I love the diaries too. I also find that I 'borrow' some peoples ideas in my own quest to become debt free.

You could try that, but a lot of the socialising isn't "socialising" per-se, but more responses about what's happened in people's lives. You could try for one thread to hold (say) the perv polls, the saturday night, the "my OH/son/mother is a !!!!!!" threads, but it would be very difficult to keep up.

Look at how the DFW/FFW2 thread started.

but this "culture of freindliness" has led to anything and everything being posted on here regardless of whether its got anything to do with debt or not.

    Thats my point.

Im not going to jump down someones throat when they are new AND SAY YOU SHOULD BE POSTING IN THIS IN XYZ SECTION" I would helpfully point out they may get more specialist & knowledgeable replies elsewhere.

I would point out to anyone who doesnt know what I mean to take a look in the Old style board where Pink winged, Gingham Ribbon & Squeaky do a absolutely sterling job of ensuring that the board is kept tidy and RELEVANT.

Whats the point in providing any kind of service if its not relevent to the needs of its service user group?

    I disagree.

I think the oversocialisation on this board is the main reason why many dont stay. They dont get the advice or support they need and find it too cliquey.

As I pointed out before, there's more than one service user group. The decision was taken not to split the diaries off because that ran the risk of taking all the "eyes" away - a decision that in effect subsidised the numbers of people answering the questions of newbies by having the social threads as a "carrot".

If the newbies are taking some of the benefits of being integrated so closly to the support/social side (i.e. more eyes), then they must also accept some of the disadvantages too.

Of course you know what you're on about - I'm just pointing out that the social side was deemed big enough to have its own board, so squashing it down onto one thread might prove difficult.

Not intended like that... Genuine compliment - honest. :D
