  • POPS we are lucky to have a regular bus service during the week , one bus an hour in each direction but the last one out of the village is just after 6 pm and then nothing until 7 in the morning, and we have no busses at all on Sundays, thank heavens we have the car but it must be so very difficult and limiting for folks who don't have that luxury. I wonder, do the bus company think we will not have need to travel anywhere on Sundays? or medical emergencies that need to go to A & E. They have built us a new community hospital in the last couple of years and there is no bus to it from the village and no direct bus to it from anywhere else either, well done TPTB,doesn't it make you want to scream???????? We have a bus every two hours and they stop at 16.50 hours! Apparently because we have the guided busway (a mile out of the village) we don't need another service (stuff the disabled, young mums, OAPs that can't get to it!)

Our bus is like that Dragon, first 1 through the village is 10.37 then it's every 2 hours till the last 1 at 5.10 in the afternoon, so glad I can drive and lucky enought to be working and able to pay to run a car.

Is it any wonder that we all try to keep our cars on the road - I do wonder whether the bus companies actually ever think of their customers. When the DS's were babies I lived in a village that had a bus out in the morning & back in the afternoon & that was that! At least we did have a train station fairly near. I only caught the bus once cos it was a single decker & I had the old type side by side Silver Cross twin pushchair & the conductor just sat there while I tried to manoevre bags, babies & collapse the pushchair & climb the steps - I took my driving test as soon as I could!

That sound like our bus service Mrs L - that's why poor old Mr Stiltwalker has to walk 2 miles to work at 5 in the morning unless he gets a lift part way along from a colleague who works similar hours to him. Mind you it's so expensive our bus service that if there are 2 or more of you paying full fare then it's as cheap to get a taxi!!!!

Afternoon all - been reading but MIA due to a nasty bout of the lurgy. Feeling slightly more human now but still on black tea and toast, not risked anything more substantial. Had a nice weekend up at my parents - DD smiled Grandma into adding to her art collection at the open studio we went to. She had ummed and ahhed over a print of a hen at the gallery we went to first - going back to it at least 4 times before finally saying no, but went straight to the original pen and ink drawing of a chaffinch which was passed straight to me as soon as she saw it! I'd love to have it up downstairs but DD is adamant "it my" and so it has to go in her bedroom - which she'll be able to open as an art gallery soon!

Sorry if I've missed anyone's news - hugs, love, commiserations or congratulations as appropriate- XX

I don't want to prolong the bus agony I found I can get back within 7 miles of here but the journey won't end until 00.45 and then I need a taxi and as I have to pay, a taxi will cost the same and is direct, safe, warm and from venue to my door, as I will save the fare one way going, it won't be cheap but about the same as the buses coming home and I am not on my own in the middle of nowhere changing buses at such a late hour. The bus will take nearly two hours!

Luckily a rare occurance for me...thank heavens. The taxi firm I have found is next door to where I'll be. Wish I had somone to share with. Taxi approx 20 minutes.

  • Hi HELEN - Little Miss Stiltwalker is amazing, I am so impressed with her definateness (is that a word?) and positivity. How on earth can the assessors not see who she is? surely they can see the person and ability inside without just seeing her limits outside, she is a truly outstanding and inspirational little person, you've raised a really sound one pet, be so very very proud of you both!!!!! Love Lyn xxx.

The secret is to never ever look around with your glasses on. Keep them for the computer. If you look around the house with them on then you see stuff!

what do you do if you don't wear glasses though eh? :D I only the poundshop ones for threading a needle but I know reading ones won't be far away. More bothered about the expense of buying them then anything else. DH is wearing cheapy glasses for reading but his eyes really need testing, I'm sure he needs prescription glasses but getting him to go is a whole 'nother thing.

peanut love - don't worry about the mess, you have a baby its obligatory. If people visit, they see the baby first and don't notice the house much. I am only just starting to catch up and youngest is 6 :rotfl:

actually talking about housework, I have been cleaning, tidying and general houseworking all day and although its the tip of the iceberg... you can see a big difference and I am feel like this year might be the year I get a grip on the house and start DIY etc again. :j

DH is working late (again... groan) but has promised to buy fish and flips tonight as we are both shattered. Sooo looking forward to not cooking! Kids have had frozen pizza, DS6 happy as larry as not a vegetable in sight. DS8 has been poorly again today and not eaten much so hoping the pizza would get him eating - he's eaten a couple of slices and perked up. Another day indoors but at least I got lots done and DS8 has a friend over tomorrow (if he's well enough) and the place looks presentable in advance which is a rarity.

what to do now, kids fed, cats fed and too tired to move. Oh blast I have washing to hang up just remembered. Do it in a few mins yawn

edit: stiltwalker - wish you better, take it easy

I can make meals so much cheaper but I may start and treat myself once a month to fish and chips from the chippy. Put £1 away each week then it seems cheap or free. Even if I do my own chips and just have the fish:)

I don't find cooking a chore but it is nice when you don't have to it yourself occasionally.

Evening all, thank you for the lovely messages about the house :)

I did get some work done today, including my dad helping me out bless him. Started to realise that we just have a lack of storage. Have re arranged our front room furniture so now have room for a desk. Need somewhere to store my laptop and hard drive and etc. Thinking once little man is mobile I need it out of the way! Lol.

Had leftover Indian tonight (OH treated me to an Indian for my birthday). Tastes as good second time round, nom nom! :)

Shopping tomorrow, didn't go last week so need a biggy. Never fun!

Been starting to think about wedding venues this afternoon. Want something majorly pretty but lets us do our own catering. Doesn't need a civil license as planning a blessing instead. Just not sure where to start looking! Google isn't proving fruitful!
