£8 million for the funeral!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Think what that money could be spent on. I am boiling mad.

    mcculloch and pops
My uncle and grandma lived in Consett, Co. Durham and as a kid I could see the effect the pit closures had there. Hardly anyone was in paid work and it was a living misery.

Well we missed our family withy willow workshop (good tongue twister that one ;)) as DS8 was so poorly this morning. He is eating little snacks this afternoon on the sofa and looking much brighter. I have been happily plodding away doing "odds and ends" chores like descaling things and getting dust from inside and back of radiators. Still feel happy from my day out with friends yesterday. :)

Anyone in need of a hug, I have another BOGOF today on hugs

That estimate came from a reliable source from someone who works in the press.

SQ Hope that your son is soon feeling better.

    You put me to shame...

Must make the effort and get dressed/shaved soon. I should have a meal but may end up with a snack and have my meal late after the Music Club tonight.

I may just prepare things for later so it takes less time to cook when I come in...

Thinking chicken dippers that need using up, mashed potato and swede and some extra vegetables followed by fruit and ice cream.

I have a cake slice to use up(Lemon and white Belgium chocolate)so may have that with a tea or coffee in a few minutes. It was a YS purchase.

SQ sorry you missed the willow weaving class. Hope your son is feeling better soon. Me and DD are sat in the lounge all wrapped up in blankets. It feels so cold here today.

Does anyone know where I can get some cheap curtains from. DD would like some that are blackout lined as she gets woken up early at the moment by the sun trying to shine. Hers are white cotton so not easy to reline to make dark enough.

Well must try and motivate myself, still have the aftermath of the migraine so not easy.

I need all my curtains replacing but last time I brought this up charity shops came out on top as the way to go...

It does seem cold today and the sky is so colourless and dull...

  • Sorry to be a little cynical but £8 million is probably only as much as the civil service rich tea budget for a month in Gubment offices - at least we'll see the result of this, not just the empty wrappers in the bin!!!!!!!!!

thanks pops. he is definitely feeling better as he is exchanging little boys' jokes with DS6 (lots of bottom burps and similar feature :D) Enjoy your cake and music club. Great to hear you cheery. :)

peanut like both the ring and haircut ideas. Why not get a haircut and next time you have some birthday/Xmas/whatever money you could get the ring.

nutty - take it easy post migraine, you don't want another. DH gets awful ones (can last days or even weeks) and so I know how they wipe you out even afterwards.

must go, teabreaK OVER, making quick batch of muffins (half choccy, half raspberry mmmm) next and then a very mild chili so hopefully DS8 might try some.

Whilst able and not knowing how long I able for a variety of reasons...if the weather picks up I am going to visit a few places for a day out, buses permitting. Unfortunately where a car is quick it could mean journeys by bus could take between two and four hours each way...

But I plan to go to Saltburn/Redcar reasonably close(and thanks to Kezlou)and her help with the changes to Redcar with seawalls being built it is not as I remember from years ago.

Possibly Whitby(don't remember ever being there)and Scarborough. I'll have to start out early...

Oh remember when I said I was told to start on Statins by my Dr? My consultant has told me not to take that paricular drug or any other...good job I checked first.

    Hi all.

Just popped in to see if you are all alive and kicking. Had a lovely visit from my DB and SIL, I wish they lived nearer, we all get on so well. Still, the house is still reasonably tidy although it's fraying round the edges pretty rapidly.

I try to keep out of political debates and although Mrs T was dire I think there have been worse. I have a special burning fork with sharpened prongs reserved for a certain Mr G. Brown who decimated the pension I had managed to scrape together slowly and painfully, so that instead of the modest pension I had hoped for, it ended up so small that they can't even be bothered with paying it every month, I get it once a quarter. And then he had the nerve to leave the country almost bankrupt. In fact I can't think of one PM that I approve of.

I'm off the island every day this week so I'll try and get a read now and then but won't be able to deliver my pearls of wisdom till next week. D'you know? I felt those sighs of relief all down here. You are a rotten lot.

Hi toughies - the holiday is flying by, I've done some jobs that I'd earmarked for this time, and enjoyed the sun (if not the bracing wind!) to do some long-needed clearing up in the garden. Still loads to do.

Until yesterday I'd had a really good run of NSDs - but have finally had to replace the car that was on its last gasp. Thankfully my wonderful Mum came to my rescue and helped finance a "new" one that has only done about 16,000 miles.

It's also very cheap to run compared to the one that has just died, so hoping for some savings on the commute. Although I'm feeling a bit faint about the money spent, I can't help driving with a silly grin on my face. I know am very lucky to have a car at all, and I appreciate every moment of it.

So that aside, I've been very MSE over the holidays. I've built up such a store of foodstuffs that I don't really need to do food shopping except for fresh things. I even have a good supply of sweeties and chocolate built up from buying good offers.

I've been clearing brushwood from the end of the garden where I cut some old leylandii down a couple of years ago, and it's lovely dry wood, so have heated the house with that over the hols. It's true that "He (or she in my case) who cuts his own wood is warmed twice"!)

Now then, Margaret Thatcher. I remember in the very difficult days of her reign how people vowed to celebrate her death - some people have been waiting over 30 years for it.

I remember in the 80s the disgusting persuit of wealth and "success" (meaning you made money by any means, moral or not) over humanity that attended her time in office.

    Yuppies... don't get me started.

I can understand people feeling angry with her even now, and I don't think she should have anything other than an ordinary private funeral. She was not a wonderful person who did wonderful things, she was a hard cow who did some horrible things.

I'll not be celebrating a human death myself but the tributes we'll be subjected to for a while will stick in my craw something rotten.
