Dear Mrs LW, I hope the bit of Burmese that you have in your cat is better behaved than the bit of Burmese in our cat! Ours has eaten (yes I mean eaten, not chewed) a big chunk out of another radiator bed this week. She's not having another one, she can sleep in the cat bed. What on earth does Docky make of Pushkin? Or is he maybe your daughter's cat and Docky hasn't met him yet?

  • Evening toughies,

Thank you so so much for all your kind thoughts and practical suggestions. I'm going to go back and gather them all in to one document and print it out. I wish I could take you all out for coffee and an enormous cake: you've no idea how much it has helped just hearing people's thoughts and suggestions.

We are very fortunate: relative's flat is a 5 minute walk from our house so we can easily nip round there or get off the bus one stop early to go and check on it. We spent an hour there this morning clearing the fridge etc and her neighbours are all up to speed on what is happening so are keeping an eye on the place. We now have enough of her clothes here and in hospital so that we can rotate them.

The hospital is about a 15 minute drive away and is quite close to OH's work so he can nip in at lunch-time or on the way to work. It's also on a direct bus route from my work, but it does take about 45 minutes at peak times. Getting home by public transport is not straightforward, but we're managing.

She has several very close friends all of whom have been visiting the hospital. I'm going to learn to think of things for them to help with when they ask "what can I do to help".

And batch-cooking is my middle name! Today I've made loads of soup and we've had an enormous gammon cooking in the slow-cooker which should give us plenty of meals. OH can't help smiling: my reaction to stress is to try and be ultra-organised so this afternoon saw me scrubbing our kitchen floor, baking bread, making twinks etc etc

I guess the next week or so will be key to seeing what happens next. The more we visit, the less likely I think it is that she will be able to live on her own so we need to start to get our thoughts in line for the next steps. OH has reminded me that at least two of relative's friends were occupational therapists and I'm sure they would be only too glad to help us with some of the initial looking at care homes etc.

Sorry for the witter - it has helped to get my thoughts in order. And once again, thank you so much for being the wonderful caring people that you are.

    xx

PS and Pushkin looks completely gorgeous, but very full of mischief!

Oh dear <<sigh>> I am another one offloading

My lovely sister - who I would do (almost) anything for, has asked if she can borrow a not inconsiderate sum of money for a couple of months. We can afford it and I am sure we will get it back eventually, but I now have to go to OH and plead her case. he isn't going to be happy as her situation is a little precarious at the moment.

I wish she hadn't had to ask....
I wanna be in the room where it happens

Sorry to hear so many difficult tales over the last few days, have some hugs! :grouphug: To those with severe family issues, I know how you feel although ours aren't quite as traumatic. I've been deleted from one family member's FBK account, several others who were next in line had beaten them to the punch - we were all fed up with reading sensational rubbish, foul language, tales of the high life when the person has no cash...etc, so glad we're not connected that way now - we don't have to read it all and get upset/stressed! Said person gets cut off on the phone if she gets remotely stroppy, her dad's said he'd deal with her as her mum was becoming ill with the situation. Families, eh?!

I think that from being at rock bottom, mentally, before Christmas, I'm finally starting the long road back up to being "me", I'm so glad I didn't fall further - the thought chills me! I've had some fantastically normal days recently, and am really loving them. We spent time in the garden yesterday, DH went to the tip and I did some pruning, kids were running amok, and my back's killing now, but oh how glorious to be out in some sun and not have to clock watch! :j I know I've a long way to go, but I'm certain the trip will be mostly uphill now.

MRSLW, nice to "see" you, glad you had a nice visit, and that certainly is a beautiful moggy!

FUDDLE - hope you're feeling better soon, shame you couldn't get AB sooner, look after yourself hun, will be in touch soon.

    A xo

Mrs l puskin is gorgous, I'm sure docky will love him :)

We had a lovely day here on saturday, it was lovely and warmth. Took ds2 to a autism play group with a friend and her children, it was a whopping 9 degrees, but we were all without our coats it was that warm.

Then came back and, the kids played outside till late before we had a very naughty takeaway before oh took my friend and kids home. it was so relaxing just having the time to chilling and chatting. Both of our children have a mixture of autism, aspergers, adhd and things so they could be themselves.

As for myself a lot of ups and downs, panic attacks galore nightmares and things. Find out tomorrow whether I get more anti depressants.

7Ww glad you have things sorted out it will make things so much easier
