How about taking the bag off the shopping trolly and use the frame to wheel the gravel through the house[ can't you tell shoping trollies have always been use for everything in our family]

Morning all

Peanut - have a lovely time, great mural

I have a busy day ahead so am just stealing myself up for it with some coffee and an easter truffle. DD has a bunch of friends coming for a sleepover tonight and the house needs tidying and kind of cleaning. At least the bathrooms need cleaning. On top of that DS and I are off to Wales on our hols tomorrow, OH is coming on Sunday, DD is staying here. I am back on Tuesday and OH and DS back on Saturday. All very confusing LOL.

OH and DS are doing some voluntary work on a steam railway we belong to, so a nice cheap holiday. I am going to treat myself to a day at the Centre for ALternative Technology (CAT). I love it there - I find it very peaceful and rather "zen". We have copped out a bit accommodation wise though. We usually take our own touring caravan, but have rented a friend's flat this time - it isn't much dearer and will be a damn sight warmer.

I have heard a whisper that the weather is set to warm up - warmer and wet next week and a lot warmer the week after. Fingers crossed, eh.

Edit: Anyone seen this? Brilliant writing, as ever, from Jack Monroe

Morning toughies, lots to catch up on. Love the painting peanut, I would love to be as creative, but I am not!! Had a very early start yesterday as I was working. OH took my mum to the family friends funeral, I decided not to go as it was all too soon after loosing my dad to go. Luckily my OH is made of stronger stuff than me.

I have a very late shift today and then tomorrow is the grand national so will me mega busy.

We went to mr M to get a few bits, now these fitted into 5 carrier bags and it came to £47.80. I never spend this much. So next week will be back to heron, @ldi and wilcos. OH was rather shocked so it shows even he is learning that I have to be careful.

Payday isn't for another 3 weeks and im already panicing what we have left in the bank account. We have a freezer full so I think we should make the effort to use up everything over the next 3 weeks. Lots of odds and ends in there.

Washing machine is on with the first load, I am going to peg it out on the line as its a lovely day.

Hope everyone has a warm, safe day. take care x

Morning all. Peanut that mural is absolutely stunning!
We had snow all day yesterday. It didnt settle though much to youngest daughters sorrow. As we walked down the road to visit eldest daughter she was singing about how much she loved the snow and wanted it to stay!
No dinner was cooked last night as children didnt wash up before they went out. They made do with noodles and bread and butter. i had tomatoe soup, youngest had pasta in a pot. We were supposed to be having home made beef pie with a yummy suet crust pastry.

Good morning everyone :)

Peanut, your work is lovely! Those shelves will look lovely accessorised.

I have been working all week still feeling ill. It has been my throat mostly. Yesterday the pain was unbearable, I couldn't eat a thing and lost my voice. I suspected infected tonsils so asked the manager if I could make a doctors appointment during work hours today. She said no. Told me to go to out of hours last night which I did. The owner of the nursery looked a bit taken a back when I said the manager said no to doctors appointments but didn't say anything and gave me directions to out of hours. Went to there, was told I had tonsillitis and given perscription for antibiotics. I spent the night in agony and have no voice. I called in sick this morning.

I have struggled myself there all week, often in tears because of the pain and sometimes because of the frustration of not being heard above the children. I am really quite aggrieved at not being allowed to go to the docs (and dentist when needed) and wonder when the heck I CAN go seeing as I work 9-6 every single day. I think I am going to need to join the union again. I there any workplace law about medical appointments?

Anyway, holed up in bed preying for anti biotics to get to grip with the infection so I can eat and get some relief.

Wishing you well and soon. I think that is so wrong and understand you feeling angry. If the Manager needs to seek medical help I hope that she behaves in a similar manner(suspect she'd go as no one could check what she is really doing)and as you say if you had been ill all week finally losing your voice that alone shows how ill you are.

We're going backwards with work practices and those hard won battles to stop exploitation of employees...

Look its political and so I'll make no comment in case I annoy others but we have all heard how UKIP want us out of the EU and the suggestion they would restrict immigration. They are about all we hear in the media of their policies.

I read today that they also want it that people can work as long as they wish...fine upto a point perhaps but I suspect that would become more like the employer would make it difficult for the employee to say no and they might end up working all hours.

The other policy that I saw was that they would scrap maternity pay. I assume that means you can still take time off but you'd struggle to survive financially.

We are in very strange times...

ETA The media and politicians show unions in a bad light concentrating on the disruption their actions sometimes cause and being stroppy but generally it is only them that are trying to stop us going back to the work practices of the past.

I have also read that the minimum wage is under threat and that there is a campaign to protect it. If anything with all the talk of a "Living" wage being needed many are saying the MW should be increased that it is too low. And many employers take advantage so people work but need their wages topping up so though working they still need to claim.

Again, just saying each of us probably have a view on this depending on circumstances.

AWWWW fuddle that sounds aweful. Where I work you can go to doctors or dentist, but we arrange cover with each other. Sounds good apart from one person who seems to need to rearrange every week. Theres always one isn't there. FWIK you have the riht to attend doctors/dentist as long as you have appointment proof, well that is our practice.

Now can I can rant here please..... T@lktalk are driving me mentaly insane. 21 days ago I was unable to pick up my emails through the normal way - I have to use a host site to collect them. 2 days ago the youview box packed up. I have spent in total over 3 hours on the telephone to them attempting to resolve it. They arranged for an engineer to call yesterday - no one arrived, this morning no one arrived so I called them again. There is no engineer booked and the next available appointment will be next Wednesday. SO after a heated exchange they are sending a new box and should be here at some point. Email still not working tho. They have offered me £50 one off credit plus £5 a month off my bill for 6 months, and 3 months upgrade for the tv package for free but I have no tv box that works at the moment. Am I still angry, yup well just disappointed. OH said not to worry, but they have just sent me this months bill this morning to add insult to injury.

Ok rant over. Now off to pack my sandwich for tea..... Take care everyone x

That mural is lovely and I wish I had half your talent . Well done.

Breadmaker is whirring doing dough for bread rolls tonight and a pot of beef stew is simmering ready to make into pies tonight with mash on the side.

Trying to get to hairdresser today as family visit down south on Sunday and I look like Worzwel Gummidge after having a fright

Hugs to all and let's keep on keeping on (oops sounds like a poster in the 40's).

Just read about your infected tonsils and having to go out of hours and fuming on your behalf.

Pity the "manager" does not have the brains to realise if you had been able to see a doctor promptly then the infection would have not got so bad and you would not have lost your voice and ended up having to go sick. Join the union pet and hope you get better soon.
