PIC - good luck with the school tomorrow. i think it's good to go and have a chat about it and it shows your DS that you are listening to him when he says he doesn't know what he's done wrong.
Mardatha - another one who'd have a quiet word with mutual GP. My old dad had dementia, lived on his own and I lived 500 miles away while my Dsister was thousands of miles away. we were always really glad if someone from the village got in touch or spoke to GP and that was with dad having a good care package. You are good neighbours for him to have.
Was loitering with intent at the reduced bit today for the first time in aaaages and was rewarded with the butcher coming along with 2 beef olives for £1, sell by 7th. Bliss. And scrumptious.
It's been a lovely sunny day here and the first day that I feel I am finally getting over my cold. The one thing that helped the most during it was steaming my head with Vick. Didn't often feel like doing it but it really helped.
Off to bed in a mo. Have a good restful sleep all.

Nuttyp I think that's awful for you. I second the advice to go to the CAB. I thought the Co-op was supposed to be ethical! Do you still have the original advert and job description?

I'm bloomin' well tempted to write to Co-op head office and tell them what I think!

Byatt it may be a glitch, dont get cross its nearly bedtime and you wont sleep well if you are annoyed - ask me how I know??? hugs ginny

Pooky - re sleeping bags, just went back several pages to check I had the right idea of what you asked. I suggest not to expensive sleeping bags simply because they wont be able to wash them and end up throwing them away so 2 cheap ones will be better than 1 costly one. Maybe a few of those fleece hats from £land would be helpful too as heads get cold I imagine. Im only saying cheaper stuff as you can buy more and then they can replace them. Im sure monnagran would have a better idea when she pops by but wanted to answer you while it was fresh in my mind.:) I really feel for the homeless in any weather but more so now its freezing - I count my blessings as anyone can end up with a pavement for a bed sadly.

I used to have a friend who was a Big issue seller near where I worked in a rather posh area and he was the sweetest man,he would carry my shopping to the bus stop and always enquire how my day had been in a broad scots accent. I would take him a packed lunch and a hot coffee when I went to the bank. A couple of years later walking through Manchesters bustling town centre a very tidy man came upto me and asked 'How are you hen' it was my Big issue man, with a little job and his own flat, off the booze and looking so much better. It made my day.

Anyone have any ideas on my earlier post regarding decent sleeping bags to donate to a homeless shelter???

Sorry I must have missed this.

If I was looking for a sleeping bag to camp out in buildings over winter, I'd ideally be looking for a three season mummy bag.
The rectangular shaped sleeping bags tend not to be very warm and leave the shoulders unprotected and therefore cold. The mummy bags can be drawn up fairly close around the face and offer far more flexibility. They also pack smaller and are easier to transport/store.
This being a good example of type, though you may well be able to find something similar cheaper. Actually this might be a more flexible option (offering more space for the larger person)

Hi everyone, hope your all well. Ive had one of those days, as in i had the 1st day of my induction. Well its turned out the job is only a 8 hour contract, not the 16/20 i was promised. So ive had tears and 'what havve i done' time. I handed my notice in last week, giving 4 weeks notice. So ive bitten the bullet and rang my area manager to ask for if i can retract my notice.

Im sat here crying, what have i done. I have to work, and i have to earn at least minimum wage at 16 hours for us to be ok. We lost our house years ago through the last recession, and then ended up with such a short fall we had no option other than the bankruptcy. I really hope ive made the right decision by staying put.

OH says do what makes you happy, but it isnt an option. We have to live, and its unfair for him to do extra hours every week to try and make up the money each week.

Im sorry for burdening you all.

Firstly that's not burdening us. I, among many others, was really pleased to see your got a job posts and I'm really sorry to see its turned out this way. I think its brave of you to ask to retract your notice (and I hope your area manager has agreed).
I'm just hoping something else comes along and you end up working in a safer environment.

What happened to my post??? Was it removed? :(
I presumed you'd removed it, I can't see any reason it would be removed by the powers that be. As you obviously hadn't removed it I hope its just a technical glitch.
Even moreso I'm hoping that you are feeling better and tomorrow's news is positive.

PIC - I hope you get satisfactory explanations and apologies from the school.

    Help

DSS has come home from school with a note in his planner saying he is racist.

He has been kept in all break time and made to apologise in person and in a letter.

He said that he was talking with two of his friends about countries and one of his friends has one parent from Croatia and one from Russia and he asked "does that mean your mixed race"

Have we gone that politically correct that it is racist ? He asked me if it was and I don't think so, just inquisitive. He is not a spiteful kid and hasn't got a mean bone in him and he is really upset.

This has upset me and his father and no doubt his Mother will be saying if he lived with her this would never have happened.

Please let me know what you think I am so upset

    PiC x

We have forms asking if we are mixed race, white etc don't we
PIC - how old is your DSS? I'm just thinking out loud so to speak. If he's small then he wouldn't understand the connotations, but if he's older then he would have heard the term used on TV or in the papers, e.g. http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sciencetech/article-1265949/Mixed-race-people-attractive-finds-British-study.html
I can't for the life of me understand where the teacher is coming from, and I hope you get to the bottom of it tomorrow. Hope you sleep well anyway. Sending hugs to you and your family.

Reading that made my day too Ginnyknit, - what a lovely story to share with us.

I really enjoyed my night at the live music club this evening too. One of the singers has produced a CD of his songs, all funds raised from sales are for Breast Cancer Care. He's a beautiful lyricist and I'm so pleased to have these to listen to.

There were also a lot of songs linking to the fact that it's Remembrance Sunday this week. As someone with a lot of links to the Forces, it's lovely to see how this has risen right back up in the national consciousness. I'm wearing my poppy with pride. I'm not a flag waver, but this I do like doing.
Whatever your thoughts on the rights or wrongs of conflicts, those who have made tremendous sacrifices deserve the help and support that the RBL and other charities provide. (Better if the help & support came from the government that got them to make those sacrifices in the first place, but that has never happened...)
Erma Bombeck, American writer: "If I had my life to live over again... I would have burned the pink candle, sculptured like a rose, that melted in storage." Don't keep things 'for best' - that day never comes. Use them and enjoy them now.
