Hi everyone, hope your all well. Ive had one of those days, as in i had the 1st day of my induction. Well its turned out the job is only a 8 hour contract, not the 16/20 i was promised. So ive had tears and 'what havve i done' time. I handed my notice in last week, giving 4 weeks notice. So ive bitten the bullet and rang my area manager to ask for if i can retract my notice. Im sorry for burdening you all.grumpybear wrote: »Hello from another Lurker! Glad to see that the thread is back on track!
People being snotty about charity shop clothes? that's crazy!
I say this sat here in my Evisu Jeans (£3.50) and American Baseball Hoodie (£4.00) listening to a bunch of 2nd hand CDs (50p-£1) in the light of a big ugly candle (£2.00) from the charity shops near me.
She's probably jealous that you look so good and spent so little - so I'd probably take it as a twisted compliment!
Hope all is well with everyone!?Very nice bargaineering there and pleased you're posting.
It's nice having nice things to wear and use but I somehow enjoy them even more if I paid pennies in the pound against the price of them new.:rotfl:
Flipped R4 on just before 7 am and found Obama has won a second term. Gave a wee lift to my day as I didn't like the stuff that Romney person was coming out with at all.
Hokay, gotta clockwatch and get my aspidistra in gear as I have to be in t'office not long after 8 am today.Every increased possession loads us with a new weariness.

Hugs JKJ - hope you can see a way through it.
So Obama wins, but what does it mean? I know there'll be folks I met in Pennsylvania in the summer who won't be happy.
A post further up the thread inspired me to check on whether our town had a foodbank. I knew that it didn't have one a while ago and wondered if it had finally opened. TO my shame I found out that it opened a year agoI will be taking something round there this week.
In other news - we won the pub quiz last night :T Despite us thinking a film quote was from Bambi when it was actually from Psycho :rotfl::rotfl: I cost me over £20 for the evening and I won a bottle of wine - and cheap plonk at that. Oh well, it did include an "all you can eat chinese buffet". HOnestly my social life is like busses - nothing at all and then 2 come along together as I am out again tonight. THis time with my lovely friend who I met on my first day at University and who is responsible for me going to work out in Korea this year. I need to buy her dinner to say thanks and pick her brains (isn't that a horrid term?) about something I need to teach. SO I am calling this one a business meeting - in the pub
Thanks for the link to those mittens - when I learn to crochet a puff stitich, I might give them a whirl. Apart from a blanket when I was a kid (that I have kept but daren't wash as it is made of all sorts of different wools) I haven't really mastered crochet. But they look lovely.
I really must get ready for work - have a good day allI wanna be in the room where it happens0 -
JKJ (((hugs))) from me, I hope it gets better for you.
NuttyP you must be so disappointed, (((hugs))) for you too.
Sorry if I've missed anyone out, brain not really engaged yet.
I'm so relieved to wake up to the US election news - the prospect of Romney in charge was a scary one indeed. I note that the only state to have experience of his one term as governor voted against him. And the two senators who made those cringeworthy rape remarks earlier have also been voted out.
Lots of work on today, back later.0 -
Hi, well Oh has spoken to a 'friend' whos worked for the coop, it seems they give an 8 hr contract then give you extra hours. But what if theres no extra hours that week, it would be a major struggle. Oh dear.
My area manager called me late last night, all is ok. I can stay in my job - not work sundays - and can just do 3 days a week or 4 if i feel i can. Im also allowed to take my breaks at more regular times. Just hope my IBS will be ok.BSC member 137

DSS has come home from school with a note in his planner saying he is racist.
He has been kept in all break time and made to apologise in person and in a letter.
He said that he was talking with two of his friends about countries and one of his friends has one parent from Croatia and one from Russia and he asked "does that mean your mixed race"
Have we gone that politically correct that it is racist ? He asked me if it was and I don't think so, just inquisitive. He is not a spiteful kid and hasn't got a mean bone in him and he is really upset.
This has upset me and his father and no doubt his Mother will be saying if he lived with her this would never have happened.
Please let me know what you think I am so upset
PiC x
We have forms asking if we are mixed race, white etc don't we
I would be wanting to speak to the head about this matter too, I have 2 dual heritage/multicultural children, white/blackafrican, and I think the teacher has blown this totally out of proportion. having moved back to my small home town some 5 years ago with my girls, they did have the odd derogatory comment, IE blackie... N***er etc which I was and they were very upset about rightfully so as this is a derogatory comment. However politically correct references to a childs ethnicity or heritage changes very quickly, some older folkes still use the term " half cast" I dont find this acceptable in todays terms but we have to understand that unless this is practiced and taught within the school then people and children will not be up to speed with what is polically acceptable.
Is the phrase "Black" acceptable!!! Of course, we hear it on tv, black American and it is considered acceptable, I would be grilling the head about making the child feel he has done something wrong when asking a question, maybe they should cover this as part of their education, after all a school is there to educate our children!!!Thriftkitten

That's a very good point thriftkitten. I'm older and where I live we don't have anybody whose family haven't lived here for ever - so this is unknown here. But I've never heard the term dual heritage and to me personally it sounds dead pretentious. Also multicultural, god what a handful to say or spell especially for a wee one. An awful lot of these new PC words tend to sound dead silly to me.
I dont see anything wrong with black either, that's factual. If my kids went to an all black school then they would called white wouldn't they lol. But it's easy for people like me to offend without realising it, is the point I'm trying to make
PIC please go in and sort that teacher out, she's got me annoyed now as well LOL0 -
Morning Toughies, hello and welcome to all the new friends who have joined us and hugs and caring to those with problems who are hurting, whatever the reason. Its cold and frosty here again today and not as bright as yesterday so it will be wrap up warm to perambulate the boy in a few minutes.
PIC - I was awake in the night and couldn't stop thinking of your DSS I do so hope you can sort the whole thing out today, 12 is much too young to be branded as racist for an innocently made remark. Hope you got some sleep too, please let us know what happens, I feel for you!!!
JKJ - Hugs, hugs and more hugs for your pain, sending you support and caring in the hope that you can get your balance back and your life going where you want it to.
NUTTYP - So sorry about the job situation, hope you can sort it out and that lots of really nice things come your way today.
PAH - Haven't heard from you for a while but just wanted to say HELLO and that I hope so much you are well and reading along with us, I miss your posts and so does Docky. Hope your doggy friends are coping with the fireworks season and not too upset by it all. Hope the HA has had a rethink about your garden too, never heard anything so silly in all my life, Thinking of you my friend, Cheers Lyn xxx.0 -
Morning all sorry I am really rubbish at remembering how to spell people's names so hugs to all :kisses3:
Well my ds was up all night been sick so no school for him today
fuddle am I right in thinking you work in a school?
Will your girls be changing school if you move? Maybe you could get a job there......
My little puppy he's been out of sorts since last night she won't leave ds bless her xxI have dyslexia so I apologize for my spelling and grammar0 -
Hi jem, yes I'm a dinner lady at present but a whole host of experience working with children, qualified as a good old NNEB Nursery Nurse too so I can get into the workplace eventually... it's just finding something that fits around school hours at the minute. I'd do anything as long as I can walk to it and get my children from school on time.
I'm seriously thinking about selling the crochet things I make. I love nothing better than making my girls accessories, bags hats etc. I've a creative mind and a skill that I could use to my advantage.
For now it'll be a case of using up my stash and trying to sell on ebay to raise a bit money to get me started. I'd like to find out how to get yarn at trade prices and will probably look at selling on folksy. The ultimate ain would be a market stall or craft fairs but that is a long way off. I aint ever going to get rich with it I know, but it's something proactive I can do to try to raise a little money. I just look at it as every £7.50 earned is my eldest DD's dinner money paid. (Don't worry, I can afford to pay for her dinners, I'm just using it as an example of every £7.50 helps)
But, back down to earth now. Dishes and spag bol to put in the SC (yes again, I have a lot of pasta sauces I need to use up) I'm a bit worried on the quiet toughies. If i get to move into that nice new house the kitchen is only the size of a postage stamp! I have a little bit of food tucked away in this house.... a little bit :eek:0 -
JKJ I appreciate you don't want to give details but didn't want to read and run. Hope things look less bleak in daylight.
Byatt, there was a bit of pruning after yesterday but I suspect your post was chopped in error. You said that you might have some more positive news today? Do hope soIt doesn't matter if you are a glass half full or half empty sort of person. Keep it topped up! Cheers!0
