  • Morning SEVENUP - Welcome to the playground, always nice to have new friends joining in. Glad the pets are feeling better now, fireworks night is a really scary thing for them, if only it was limited to one night like it used to be eh! Cheers Lyn.

my work's in upheaval again and stuff's getting canned left, right and centre. I don't know what's going to happen and I'm trying (hard) not to worry about it. .....As when I worry my hair falls out, I either don't eat or eat everything in sight! ....and its been more of the latter lately.

OH is moaning about his job and how he wants to quit. In reality his situation isn't too bad he just takes everything to heart even when its nothing to do with him! The way he is is a side effect of a very torturous (sp?) relationship many years ago that left him quite scarred.

  • UNIXGIRL - I feel for both of you, not knowing what is going to happen is so unsettling, just remember we're always here to listen and support you if you need us, Hugs Lyn xxx.

Thanks Lyn, I got made redundant earlier in the year (second time in 3 years) and this job is temporary but this is nowhere near the end the end of the contract term I signed up for. Trying to be positive, this time of year (prep for xmas) is always hard for a few reasons but I didn't need this on top of it.

Hi Unixgirl, sorry to hear things are so stressful. If you are on a contract would they have to pay out the balance of the contract or can they just terminate it by notice? When I was working I found that all sorts of decisions start getting deferred until after Christmas round about now - which would buy you extra time even if the worst happens.
It doesn't matter if you are a glass half full or half empty sort of person. Keep it topped up! Cheers!

Just popped in, going to take Dd and Dgs to see my Mum and make her week. But I wanted to stop and send hugs to all who are going through the mill at the mo. Employers seem to be able to do what the hell they want nowadays as people are expendable, throw away like goods. I had experience of this in my working life but it seems to be getting much worse.

yay :j:j Obama got back in, from friends in the USA it seems Romney was going to stop anything remotely useful for the lower paid and sick...hmmm rings a bell  Right must go will call back later and hope you all have a better day today xx Hugs ginny

  • FUDDLE - I just had a thought, always dangerous!!! If you do take the new house and the kitchen is a little on the small side for storage you could see if you could find a tin/wicker trunk/hamper and store tins and jars inside it. DD1 had a big tin one for storage when she boarded at school, when we lived abroad and its's astonishing just how much you can fit in if you pack it properly. She, in adult life, used it as a coffee table with all her camping gear in, I wonder if that might give you dual purpose storage/table for girls to colour on/coffee table I don't think they are too expensive either, might be worth considering, Cheers Lyn xxx.
  • Gosh, you lot can natter.
Hi to all (Especially newbies) and hugs to any in need of one.

Had a REALLY great night last night at a gig, band were brilliant and put on a stonking show. Only spends were 2 drinks and bus fare so all in all not bad on the purse strings. Only thing is that two nights of standing to watch bands is that my back and hips are now aching away. Sitting with my electric heat pad on my back with a mug of soup catching up with everyone.
I was thinking I might have a drive over to Ikea later (only about 4 mile away from us) as I haven't been for months. Could do with some throws to `recycle` our grotty sofa and want to look at those solar lamps that everyone is raving about. If nothing else can have my free coffee!

Grandma, Thank you so much for those wrist warmer instructions, might have to relearn how to crochet for those. I fractured my right wrist 4 years ago and it does ache, especially when cold so they could be ideal.

Fuddle, not worth running a car for i'm afraid but something will come up for you if you move, i'm sure of it. Our kitchen is postage stamp size. Has a sink and drainer, cooker and a bit of worktop over the WM on one side where the window is and a wall cupboard on the other that I regularly belt my head off.:o.
Also has a door at the end, kinda pointless as you can't actually use it as the worktop jutts out past it! We do have a dining room though (gosh that sounds posh in writing). Which has the fridge freezer in, crockery and everything else cupboards and a table that we use for food prep as no room in the kitchen!

Nuttyp. Would the reduction in stress levels be worth changing jobs for. Even if you lost hours could you use that time to have another job (bar job perhaps) or perhaps craft that you could sell on.

I have a job where I spend a week at at time away as a live in carer. My OH hates me being away half of my life and it can be stressfull (my client at the moment can be really horrible). It is the only way I can earn enough money to pay the bills though. The Minimum wage promises being bandies about at the moment make me laugh. I get paid a daily (24H) rate. Even if you take out a small sleep allowance I am well under NMW. On paper my yearly wage is better than NMW but i spend 50% of my life at work. Long term this job is not an option, for my own sanity and our relationship (let alone my goggies!).
