Will go back and catch up in a mo but wanted fill you in
Teacher with bad handwriting has phoned me and to be honest she is a little bit of a wet lettuce
During the conversation she said
Oh it's not a big issue I only said it could be taken as being racist  (big issue to me missy)
It's hard to know what to do for the best as you have to be seen to do something (it is not my DSS fault someone bleats racism and you panic and punish him so you are seen to be doing something)
I don't really know what you son is like (never thought to ask anyone else then?)
next breath
I asked a senior member of staff and ran it by him and he said it was ok. It was only a break time and I didn't have to tell you by writing in his planner  (should think myself lucky you scrawled in his book and it took four of us to work out what it said)
When asked why she didn't phone me her reply was "most parents aren't bothered"
When I told her how upset DSS was and that it made him sick with worry last night and that she should go and speak to him and explain that it may have upset the other boy but it was not racist her reply was "oh I don't have any time and I don't know what to do, I don't want to make him sick though"
She then went on about how I don't know what problems this other boy has :eek: well excuse me but our kids have been through hell but they don't make lies up about other kids for attention
Apparently DSS said "what wack country do you come from" I know I'm a little behind with kids lingo but this is not a term DSS says. I have never heard him say the word wack.
DSS only asked if he was mixed race as his Mum met someone from another country and he didn't know if that would make him come from a mixed race family.
After I told her we have all sorts at our house and my best friend is a gay married man with HIV and he can't even keep up with what the correct political terminology is and he is confuse when he should be upset or not. We are the most liberal minded family I know, we even have my exes family over for tea (yep I'm nuts)
After she finished whimpering on the phone I asked if her senior member of staff was going to be at the sixth form meeting tonight as I am at it with my DS so will be seeing him there
I will speak to someone tonight but the long and short is the boy burst crying and said he was upset (this happened before half term) and they told DS off to show they have done something :mad:
Sorry for rambling but if I didn't get it down I would forget

Sorry the racist remarks were
What wack country do you come from ( DSS says never said that and I'm inclined to believe him as never heard any of our four kids say that)
After the boy said him Mum is from x and his Dad is from y DSS asked if that made him mixed race ( not racist just inquisitive)0 -
Well PIC I'm glad you know what has happened and also can rest assured DSS hasn't done anything to be ashamed of. I would speak to the member of staff tonight, make sure DS knows not to be upset (but also make sure he's aware that this is a sensitive issue), and make sure the school knows you don't think they handled it well.
I'm also going to think of a way to let my two know it's a sensitive issue without making a big deal of it. I must say though, I wasn't aware that mixed race was no longer a PC term and I might well have used it myself. : (
Well 6 black sacks later and the Wardrobe of Doom looks slightly less doomy. My bedroom, however, doesn't.
PS. Doesn't whack mean crazy or something like that?0 -
Thats the problem I wish they would send a memo round when things are no longer PC
Just look at my Mums "Alf garnet" era I don't think they have even seen a memo :rotfl:0 -
Yeah, whack means crazy. In other words DSS has been confused about the origin of the child and has asked a question... in kids language. Things are mint, whack, beat, owned and to be fair I'm probably a few years out of date with 'in terminology'
I'm offended on your behalf for 'I have to be seen to be doing something'0 -
Some of the things kids say confuse me ds12 comes out with all sorts I Google them lol I just say Nathan you are not in the school yard with your mates I am tournament please speak English at home.
Can anyone help me my ds6 was sick in my big aluminium pan last night nearest thing to him so I soaked it in bleach germs scear me lol now it's black and I can't get it off  any ideas how to get it gleaming.......I have dyslexia so I apologize for my spelling and grammar0 -
The thing is, it's perfectly acceptable for children to talk to each other in that way, the problem comes when the word is translated by a non kid that the meaning/relevance to the situation changes. I think that's what happened here. The teacher has heard, knew the translation for the world and thought 'eeeek what kind of a crazy country do you come from?' that's not a very nice way of saying it, he must be racist! I best pull him up on it' But instead of saying to DSS 'it would be more appropriate for you to just say what kind of a country you come from? By saying whack you insinuate that it must be a crazy country'. That's all it needed PiC. :cool:0

I completely agree with what fuddle says above. If it was my K who had been pulled up for saying that I too would be cross, but to be honest I get confused with the latest terminology too. For instance, why does 'right' have to be tacked on to the end of every sentence.
I said to her the other night that dinner was very nice and she said 'I know, right' I will never understand teenagers!I promise that I will do my best.....0
