  • GINNY you have so many trials and tribulations in life to deal with, why should you have to give up the broadband, it is a necessity not a luxury. You are limited by the care that your OH needs and need some contact with the outside world, you can't be isolated in that situation, you'd feel trapped and abandoned. You need some recompense for all your dedication and hard work, bless you lovie, think of your own needs once in a while, you give and give freely to your loved ones, but there is you too in all this!!!! Hope I'm not out of order in saying that, I do know some things have to be prioritised but you have needs too!!!!! Cheers Lyn xxx.

nutty - we run on the same system here too, when things were really bad OH would regularly take £10 from the machine and I would have no money for food and things. SO after many a row we moved it all to one bank account and one card only, and we have never changed back ever. OH would still just take money at will and buy junk - DVDS from guys at work, sweets and general stuff we cant afford. He doesnt much like it but its the only way I can keep a handle on our spending.

Ginny would you be able to get any help from the Royal British Legion as your DH was in the army.

I just couldnt think of any where else to cut back other than the broadband. We went out to a meeting at the bank earlier and they were very helpful and kind - not our bank I hasten to add we decided to get him a new account after all the chaos ours created. They even got Hubs a drink of water when everything got too much. The idea was we went for lunch afterwards but when we came out Oh wanted to go home so we grabbed fish and chips as a treat and came home. Then to find the letter on the mat wanting more money for a necessity really got me down.

Thank you Lyn thats very kind of you to say what you did. x

Kidcat you are right and I may well have to resort to online SM shopping soon. I dont think the broadband is a want any more its a necessity for me. Oh worries about me not seeing people in RL but Dd assures him that all my dear friends on here keep me going and its totally true. I think I saw that I can buy postage online for my charity parcels which means I can just give them to DD's partner to drop off at the PO for me and he wont have to queue up ( he is at Uni and time is tight).

Jenni will try the legion too - great idea.
    Thank you all hugs x

    Such sadness on here today.

I had 3 very early MCs and since then nothing, despite fertility treatment. I'm very thankful I have my girlies but DH and I would have loved one from this relationship. The girls were only 4 and 2 when we met and their biological father hasnt seen them for over 7 years now so they know who their "dad" is.

Ginny - when DH first had his accident we still got full pay from his company, when that stopped we had nothing coming in and needed to claim benefits for 3 months in order to then go on to a work based income protection scheme. During that time we approached the insurance benevolent fund people (DH was in insurance for 20 odd years), they sent a local rep round who had a huge list of things they could help with, they could pay for DDs school bus passes, they had grants available towards vehicles and travel, specialist medical equipment etc, they also wanted to help with the debts we had at the time. Fortunately a week or so later DH got an initial insurance payout for the accident that cleared our debts and provided enough to see us over until the income protection payments started so we didn't need the funds help. But it's great to know its there and they've told us to get in touch if we need any help.

I've got my jimjams on and the fire is roaring away (surrounded by airers of washing), I just can't seem to warm up today, I've been in and out to the garage and the garden, sanding and painting furniture.....my poor fingers are only just defrosting.

It is very cold here today actually, a snugly night for sure.

I have failed as a toughie... No SR flour for dumplings. Yorkshires it is with stew.

The gardeners have just left. They have been rot abating my front garden. The grass is going down next week! Off to check that there's no snow due. So lucking forward to looking out to greenery.

Won't get to aldi now till Saturdy. Bet I missed the strawbs :(

Edit: was Timothy, should have been rotovating

Ginny, and anyone else, this link http://www.turn2us.org.uk/information__resources/grants/using_the_grants_search/the_turn2us_grants_search.aspx

gives you details of charities/ex employer's etc that can give help. You input your details and a list will come up. I had help last year because I was in the Civil Service, they paid a months rent in December when I was really desperate.

Forgot to say, my mum had help from SSAfa, started because my dad was in the army but my mother then said she had been in the Wrens, which came as a shock to us as she'd never told us!!!

    Lyn

Wish I could thank you more than once for that post.

    Jem

I had three miscarrages around the eighteenth week stages. Was reassured by consultant there was no need to worry about an early menopause - had youngest dd at 42 and then found out I was about to enter menopause. Since then I have relied on my instincts and not on blanket statements by anyone. DH does not talk about it either.

Need to make a start on the leek and potato soup for tonight so see you later.

    Hug to all

  • FUDDLE - stew and yorkies is fantastic in its own right, but, if you have plain flour and baking powder or bicarb you can still make the dumplings. it's 1 teaspoon of baking powder/bicarb to 4 oz of plain flour, will give you nice fluffy dumplings. Hope that's useful, Cheers Lyn xxx.
