  • I know a few people on here are worrying about the upcoming bedroom tax, it seems there may be a faint glimmer of hope for disabled tenants http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-21541400

We used to go into small interview rooms which were so badly designed the client was closest to the door! I often thought a lot of damage could be done before someone came if the panic button was pressed. Those were the days when the client also had your full name and my married name was very rare.

Thank goodness that there is a glimmer of light. I've been talking to devasted disabled people about this for months and they can't believe their needs aren't being taken into consideration. Fingers crossed that some commonsense and common decency may prevail.

That's excellent news, although he's saying it will be hard to identify families...uhhhmmm, not that hard...
  • At least they are finally starting to listen and its a starting point. Although i can't help but feel more anger towards Cameron who has personal experience of disability and knows how much space is taken by all the aids and equipment that disabled people need

Crossing my fingers re - the glimmer of hope. The housing officer was embarrassed to say they dont allow for seperate rooms - OH and I have to have them as much as we dont like it. However of we were not married it would be allowed - go figure:mad:

Thank you all for your help and guidance, am feeling much more positive now and may even get a grant for a new bed for him as his is falling apart. The SS could only offer a hospital bed which obviously we would take if necessary. He has a good mattress but need a slighlty stronger bed to allow for all the fidgetting when he cant sleep cos of the pain.

On a good note I fixed the washer tonight. DS took Oh to see DGS for an hour to give me a break and I thought 'right time to tackle the task' I have been putting it off for a week. The washer wasnt spinning much and as its geriatric the filter is really awkward to get back in but with a little ingenuity and a rather wet floor I did it. Am a happy ginny :D

Have shared this on my Facebook page, I have lots of people who this may help. Thank you.

Ginny - can you not get a pressure bed for DH from OT? They are really good and definitely worth a go.
  • ginnyknit We are in the same position only we live in a 3 bed house that has been adapted for OH but we have been told we will be exempted for the 3rd bedroom as it cannot be used as a bedroom due to having the vertical lift in there

and well done on fixing your washer :j my fridge on my frost free fridge freezer stopped working, my friend google led me the cavity of the freezer being iced up preventing the fan from working following his instructions i took of the panel and got my steam cleaner out and defrosted it put it back together and hey presto a working fridge and it felt so good knowing i fixed it myself instead of panicking and buying a new one :D
  • GQ you do what you can, what you are allowed to do by the rules, what is feasible - none of you are callous and uncaring but there have to be set frameworks within which to operate, you are bounded by those. Personal feelings cannot intrude on this, no one is going to critisise or apportion blame, you are just implementing what is decreed, don't think anyone can blame you, you have shown so very often the humane side of humanity, with tolerance and good humour thank heavens there are those such as you working in the system, Cheers Lyn xxx.

Thanks Kidcat and Softstuff for your support. I'm sorry I gave the impression that I was worried about the tests, I'm not as like you said SS, it's a step towards help hopefully. My main worry is they won't find anything because then what is the pain all about?

Anyway, saw doctor this morning, and I'm being referred. Just wait and see now.
Well, if by any chance they didn't find anything with that test Byatt, they'd have to look elsewhere and look harder. Because something is causing it.

Ginnyknit, the news of them charging for your OH's emergency alarm really got me . Hope there's someone can help you with that.

Jem, I second what was said about the testing. Pop to your local GUM clinic and get yourself tested. You don't have to be referred, don't have to give a name and can just be seen as a number. Better to be safe physically.

Our home contents renewal has arrived. We had bother previously finding a company that will insure us, give that we're in a flood prone region (but despite the fact we're raised up on stumps). This year the renewal with one company has gone up to over $900 from the $300 it was last year  I need to start ringing round to see if I can do better, given that most companies will no longer quote for our area online. Bearing in mind, if we flooded, most of our town would be a metre under water, since to flood us it has to fill the area of 3 football pitches next door with over a metre of water.
