DSS has come home from school with a note in his planner saying he is racist.

He has been kept in all break time and made to apologise in person and in a letter.

He said that he was talking with two of his friends about countries and one of his friends has one parent from Croatia and one from Russia and he asked "does that mean your mixed race"

Have we gone that politically correct that it is racist ? He asked me if it was and I don't think so, just inquisitive. He is not a spiteful kid and hasn't got a mean bone in him and he is really upset.

This has upset me and his father and no doubt his Mother will be saying if he lived with her this would never have happened.

Please let me know what you think I am so upset

    PiC x

We have forms asking if we are mixed race, white etc don't we

Does the note actually say he is racist?? That's very strange. I thought they would be more likely to say he has made a remark that could be taken as racist rather than branding him.

I'd make an appt to see the teacher and the head in the morning to clarify what happened and if you disagree that his comment was racist then tell them so.

He hasn't said "you ..... mixed race..... you!" He's asked a question. I'm white British, that my race. I get asked my race all the time, especially from government departments.

How do you feel about going into school to talk about it? I find a note in a planner is not the correct way to communicate an issue of racism in the first place.

I blame it on the weather, what a thoroughly miserable grey day reflected exactly in the way I feel :(
I hate winter. I hate the cold damp greyness, the long nights, the dark mornings. Ald! have vit d tabs in so have got some in to try and stave off the winter blues.
P'd off because DH said he would pick the girls up from school but then text me to say he was feeling too poorly and had gone back to bed (he has a cold!). So I had to do it, same as always.
He's still in bed and not looking likely that he will get up in time for me to go to bootcamp this evening.
I might just put DD's in their jammies and send them up to jump on the bed as i leave ;)

I hope my bootcamp trainer has the bag and gloves out tonight, I feel the need to give something a good punching:rotfl:

A peaceful cosy evening is wished for you all xx

ETA; an accusation of racism is a serious thing and should not be communicated like it was. If it happened as he says then in my book, (and i'm sure most books) it isn't even racism to begin with. (p.s. not implying that it didn't happen as he said, just realised how that sounded!) I would request an urgent appointment with the head and the teacher!

  • The note says

"........ has made an unpleasant, possibly racist comment to another student. He must think more carefully about what he says and never repeat this"

From what you've said it sounds ridiculous PIC. I would go in for a word.
ETA: Especially since it is unclear what was said and in what tone. Just try to find out what happened.
  • She said it was racist when he was in detention.

I am so mad, why could they not ring me? Now the school is shut and I will have to sit on it til tomorrow now.

    Could cry

PIC that sounds very strange - I would ask the school what's going on with that I reckon (could be a case of the teacher mis-hearing and not letting DSS explain), any way I hope it is sorted out and does not get TOO upsetting for DSS.

    Oh boy!

He should have asked if they were "dual heritage"!!!!

I think that is the most recent PC term for "mixed race."

I am by the way - half Scottish and half Yorkshire.

Ths made an unpleasant, possibly racist comment to another student.

So possibly??? and he was given detention?
He must think more carefully about what he says and never repeat this"

I agree with the first half only because teacher is obviously very sensitive about the whole issue.

I think I would want to know if the child concerned complained or whether she reacted off her own bat?
