Awwwwww how cute, we have a new siberian husky pup in the village, she's only 10 weeks old and is made of soft grey velvet and has a beautiful white muzzle with a distinct black mask. She's adorable and Docky ignores her which drives her mad as all she wants to do is play, she's such a cutie, Cheers Lyn x.0

I think I want some!
I have a problem and I not sure what to do. One of my neighbours is on his own, his wife left him a couple of years ago. He's a lovely gentle cultured man, was a cancer research scientist but was in a car accident that triggered epilepsy. Had to stop work, started to drink, and life went gradually downhill. Was recently diagnosed diabetic and started to have a lot of falls. I think he isn't eating properly and thats causing it. We keep an eye on him and he's now got a Care Alarm thingy linked to our phone.
But the problem is that twice in a week his smoke alarm has gone off and hubby has found him in a smoke filled house fast asleep with the frying pan on the stove. Then last week his car had a rear wing all bashed & scraped. So he's now getting to the stage where he might endanger himself or others, and I'm wondering what we should do about it, if anything... What do you all think?
Another vote for getting in touch with the social service's, and my OH is epileptic and a lass at work and both have tryed to get a provisional licence and was told no way 'cause you have to clear of fit's for 3 year's before you can be classed as safe to drive with out endangering other's.£71.93/ £180.000 -
Havnt posted on here for a while. The talk of charity shops and colleagues being sniffy about them happens to me too. I buy a lot from charity shops for me and my daughter. Most people are amazed at some of the things Ive bought (Religion cost £7 retails at £150, brand new with tags). I got my 10 year old DD a wool Next coat like new for £2.50. One of her friends admired it and asked where it was from and she said "a charity shop" the friend was horrified and sneered. This "friend" has a horse but worn out shoes and has outgrown her coat which isnt suitable for cold weather. My DD was disgusted with her lack of priorities (her words lol) and isnt the slightest bit bothered that some people may look down on her because of where her coat comes from.
We went to to a free firework display which was nice although not as good previous years, cuts no doubt. When it ended someone thought it would be fun to let rockets off into the crowds and there were 25,000 people there! This caused chaos as you can imagine. I got us to a safe spot but my DD was scared. No sign of any security whereas previous years had lots. I will be wary of going next year. We then had to listen to mortor like explosions all night from so called bangers. I wish fireworks were unavailable to the public, just big displays. Even some adults can not use them safely and think its funny to throw them around.I have every possession I want. I have a lot of friends who have a lot more possessions. But in some cases I feel the possessions possess them, rather than the other way round0 -
Mardatha - perhaps if you know him well enough to suggest a trip to the doctor's even on the basis of had a fall etc or even if you know his doctor mention it to them as a step prior to SS? He may just want a friendly hand to get him over the dread of doing that.
Epilepsy and diabetes are horrid in combo and probably as a scientist he is trying to ignore the obvious. If you are really worried about the driving then tell the police that you think he has been driving and are worried about this capacity to do so given the epilepsy and so on, they may be able to require a medical, galvanise SS or others to prevent a nasty incident.Start info Dec11

Thanks to all who replied. It's quite a hard one to call. Would it be invasion of privacy if I spoke to the doc - we have the same one - or would it be neighbourly? I've never reported anybody for anything in my life and would feel terrible reporting him to DVLC or anything like that. And I can't say for sure why he is falling over so much, as I dont know what meds he's on or not on. I do know what you're saying shegar, and I'm not being hauled into a carer's role. I've seen me out there hanging up his washing in a force 9 gale when it blew down - and him in his kitchen watching with a big smile. Nooooway lol!0
