Pick the plate up and take it away saying "we'll it was that or nothing and you don't get to whinge about having food"
He is behaving like a (spoilt petulant) child, treat him like one, remove his privileges in this case food.

Harsh but might just get the message across. I did it once, caused a few home truths to be spoken (so get these straight in your head) but got the point across.

My mum was a real firebrand redhead in her youth, in similar circumstances she calmly picked up the plate and then launched it at the wall in full on frizbee style. Dads face was purple and I was sent to bed at that point but the shouting went on for quite a while.

Dad spent the weekend re-decorating though.:rotfl:

I once threw a lead crystal ash tray at someone...one of those REALLY BIG 1980's ones...must have weighed a couple of pounds. It missed his head (narrowly) and made a massive dent in the plaster on the wall behind him...If I'd hit him :D Oh I'd have probably been out by now ;)

Different OH now but not sure I care enough any more to throw things...I'd almost certainly have to redecorate myself, and my plates were expensive!

katie - I think he would have worn the dinner, I am used to there being a ruckus no matter what I cook, it seems someone always complains even on nights when I have cooked three or four different meals, OH knows better though. He made the mistake once of turning his nose up at a plate with mash - so i served him mash every day for a week!! :)

Today I have given the kitchen a real deep clean and got all the washing washed and either dried and away or a few bits are hanging over banisters to dry. Most went through the dryer as I couldnt dry the amount we have without it. Ideally I would have put some out today but OH has taken the whirlygig down during the high winds, I couldnt lift it and then get it upright, so the drier was used instead.

After much kerfuffle and fuss I was finally able to get into the hospital today, I have now said my goodbyes and left him with a smile, I have promised to go back tomorrow, but in reality I cant see him making it through tonight. I do hope he does as we finally got hold of his son and arranged flights etc but he wont get here until late Monday, its gonna be a close call but if we can possibly get him there we will.

It is my dads birthday today and whilst my mum had declared days ago she didnt want to celebrate, thats not a possibility with the auty boys, they were struggling to understand why we were not sticking to our normal routine of going out for dinner. So I said that I would do dinner here, mum decided she wanted to visit at dinner time so Dad came alone! Then mum rang half way through wanting a lift home - so I told him to bring her back with him and we would hold dessert and cake.

I know its hard and I didnt feel like celebrating much but the kids dont get it, and I also had a horrible thought that what if this was his last birthday and we wasted it, I know its morbid but I couldnt shake the idea that we need to seize every moment or regret it.

I had told my uncle last week about DD having a special assembly this week and how much of a struggle it was going to be to get there, he pointed out that he had never been able to see his grandkids do anything like that, as he was waiting to move mainland when he retires. It really brought it home to me that we so often put things off and then we lose the chance and its gone forever.

So glad you got to see him Kidcat! (((hugs)))

I do agree with you about taking every opportunity that arises to do the things that matter, don't think that really comes home to you until you're a bit older and you see things unfold the sad way they often do!

So pleased you were able to visit your uncle.:)

Got to admit, i normally put towels out in the cold, my mother used to say it made them softer. She dud this with work trousers as well to get tough stains out.:o. Daft thing is it actually worked when i trying to get rid of a load of silicon that was stuck to OH's trousers.

    Eliza - digging?!

Its was lashing it down last night here, woke up and the cars were frozen solid all over. The windows were covered too
Can't wait till we leave this street, the noise here was unbelievable, tired isn't the word.

My ex-husband irritated me so much one day I pulled the entire cutlery drawer out of the kitchen unit and threw that at him. As for cooking, I used to work a 12 hour day, he wasn't working and I'd come home to find a pigsty with nothing done. I served him a tin on a tray complete with tin opener and fork.

Katie & bluebag: Oh yes! Love it.
My jaw dropping moment is when I have spent nearly a whole morning in the kitchen, concocting something wonderful out of the dodgy contents of the fridge, only to have the Rev scrape her plate clean, sit back and say, "Very nice. A simple meal, but tasty."
Simple? SIMPLE? If I didn't have the patience of a saint she'd be in the Harp Orchestra by now.

I also,(me of the saintly patience) have also hurled a plate of dinner at the wall on one occasion when my ex really went too far. It's the only time my two boys have ever seen me lose my temper and they still refer to it with awe.

Kidcat: so glad you got to see your uncle. I pray that his son gets there in time. I had a relative who ran away from home aged 18 and ended up in NZ. But he and his mother wrote to each other every week for nearly 50 years. When his mother was dying he had an insurance mature so was able to get on a plane and come home for the first time. Would you believe it? His mother died while he was still in the air.
You cannot put things off, can you. Fingers crossed that doesn't happen to your uncle's son.

Just had a quick read of posts so apologies I'll probably miss someone, sorry...so to all that are having a difficult and sad time with family who are ill, my thoughts are with you...

i have heard the tales that clothes hung on a line are better if it is freezing and all the reasons that have been mentioned about softness and whites being whiter...

And the suggestion about a clothes airer is interesting, good to see the idea of not putting too much into the tumble drier may work after all.

It seemed milder when I was out earlier and yet I keep hearing the weather is about to change...we'll soon find out...

I was doing a very small unexciting shop in Tesco's a few minutes before it closed and someone was refused his purchase of cider and when he went out, he banged on the window hard and damaged the glass. They did not chase after him and they had missed the damage but I told them as it was hidden behind some goods...

Luckily it was not one of the massive panes of glass so won't take much to replace.
