Great post thriftwizard
I volunteer at a food bank and we are having to add candles or wind-up torches to the boxes. People simply can not keep up with the costs of electricity.Make £2 a day challenge - doing well so far.0 -

Nope, it's not in the Peak District, it's just down the road from me too!!:D
Doh, I must have got the wrong tool shop then, this one was in the Peaks. And very good it was too. Must try and remember where we were staying but I didn't book it and thus am a bit vacant about where I was.
B & B had oodles of very friendly black cats, loved that. Not too keen on all the knick-knacks in the public areas, I was having low level knack-attack anxiety.
You know, when you feel smothered by cute china and dried flower arrangement...... it is a close kin to doiley-itus which used to menace me in the homes of the great aunties.Every increased possession loads us with a new weariness.

GQ - yes the kittens snuggle up together, groom each other (whilst kicking each other in the head) and play together......we got them all from the same rescued place but one is possibly from another litter.
I could take up the whole thread with photos (like I do my FB page - sorry to those of you I have on there) So I've done a blog post with plenty of pics for you.
(click on my name on the left of the page and visit my homepage - for those who don't know how)
Life is fluffy when there's kittens to snuggle.Awww, I just looked. Beyond adorable, I've gone all gooey now.
I'd love a cat but I have decided that this home isn't a suitable environment; concrete jungle surrounded by fast roads, big dogs off-lead and losts of "missing cat" posters on the lamposts.
It would be selfish of me to bring a kittie into this flat, with so little space indoors and all the carp outside. When I ring my folks, I make them hold the phone so I can hear whichever cat is available purr. Cats seem to perform to order. I'm a soft old bat and must head out to the t'office now; there's phones to be answered.

They're very useful and can even function as a sort-of bug out garment. Great when out and about. I do believe you can even take them fishing, should push come to shove.:)Every increased possession loads us with a new weariness.

Update: Tessy is fine, so it looks like you were right, Molly41.
Elisamoose, you could spend the next two weeks looking at etsy and pininterest (is that what it's called?). And if you don't live alone, getting whoever lives with you to wait on you hand and foot.

Can I have a brownie badge for passing the first stage of OS, please? I remembered last night to take some lentil dahl out of the freezer for tonight.Aspire not to have more but to be more.

thriftwizard wrote: »Mind you, I think it's going to have to go a bit further than just food; they're (very sensibly) going to be collecting food that can be cooked rather than instant food, but when I asked the girl who's organising who's going to make sure that the recipients a) know how to cook it and b) have the equipment to cook it with, she was nonplussed. Having worked at the local playgroup for many years & done home visits, I know that a number of local families are living with miniscule kitchenettes with no storage space, & their cooking equipment is limited to a microwave & maybe a fridge - there's nowhere to store pans, slow cookers or casserole dishes.
However, it's a landmark moment for me; I spent several years trying to convince people that we here are not immune from things going awry in the wider world, and mostly met with blank incomprehension. Yet for years I've also had neighbours who exist on a pittance from payday to payday & "borrow" a few eggs from me when they're desperate but keep a "good face" on the misery & worry and blame themselves for not "managing" better. Sincerely hoping that some of the biggest blocks to improving life for the less-fortunate around here might now be shaken out of their complacency & comfort zones a bit...
There's a really good thread somewhere on here about someone setting up a foodbank - some good advice from people who already worked at foodbanks IIRC - maybe copy it and give it to the lady who is organising it?
I have some good news - OH has got a job!!!!! :j :T
It's poopy pay and not really what he was after, but a job is a job is A JOB!!!!!:D:D It's through an agency but won't start for nearly a fortnight as it's a MOD contract so he has to go through security clearance and all that. It doesn't have to be forever, at least he will be earning while he looks for the job he really wants.
Anyone job hunting, there are jobs out there. Don't give up hope and don't stop looking for them!
Plan for the rest of the day is - OH is deep cleaning the bathroom and the hallway. I am rearranging the stock cupboard because I need some space back to store christmas presents. I'm not very mobile at the moment but I'll manage that okay.
Hugs to all0
