Ooh Mar I'd love an empty cupboard! I'd have to keep opening it and gazing at it, but that is probably only a reflection of just how ridiculously full my cupboards are. I have however realised that one of my underbed draws is empty, and since I don't think the children know it is there, I am going to fill it with WRAPPED xmas presents (just in case of prying eyes).
Mind you, my grandma used to look for her presents and if they were wrapped she'd unwrap them then wrap them up again.
If I wrap enough presents it may successfully delay me from sorting the Wardrobe of Doom which is a bit too scary.0 -

Frosty here but it does look pretty!
On another thread (I forget which one) there is a link to a government e-petition to try and get fireworks banned from private sale. I have signed up as one of my cats has not enjoyed the last few nights.
Oh, and GQ, Axminster Tools is just down the road from me. Their showroom is incredible!!:rotfl:
RPP) and have a vague recollection it was Axminster. Lovely lovely stuff.
I have a problem. One empty cupboard in my kitchen and it's really silly/greedy/childish to want to run out and spend money getting stuff to fill it. Isn't it?? :silenced:Mar, I'd give somebody else's right arm for a spare kitchen cupboard, so it's an enviable non-problem to me.
How about tinned comfort food for those snowed-in moments; custard, steamed puds, rice puds and general sugary loveliness?
Pooky, am consumed with kitten-envy. Are they all one litter? It's so adorable when they all snuggle together. Would it be possible to have pix?
Even adult cats can be comical when the weather isn't to their liking. I've had times where the cats have gone to be let out, looked at pouring rain, turned tail, repeat on and off for several hours and obviously bursting for a p.
Then they look up at their human as if to say can't you stop that happening, mum:rotfl:Bless.
Feeling sorry for all the pets and people with shredded nerves as a result of fireworks. This year has been noticably quieter than others and I'm wondering if it's a result of the tightening of the economy. In previous years I've noticed people letting off fireworks as soon as they come on-sale and the final whizz-bangs about 2 months later.
Last year I was on the lottie in October and some nitwit let off a rocket from a nearby back garden in the early afternoon in strong sunlight. It was barely-visible so that was a really good use of their money.
This year (I'm in the city centre) we had none at all until Friday evening, then a few over the weekend and a few each night since. The parental cats over in the hometown have been fine although I've never met an animal which enjoyed the wheeee! of a rocket passing closely over the roof.
Right, need to get some more tea. Was very very weary yesterday, don't know why as had had an easy Sunday, and slept a bit later than usual.
Hope everyone has a good day. GQ xxEvery increased possession loads us with a new weariness.

Thing is I am not feeling sorry for myself, I do thank everyone for their kindness and it has worked, I do think I am coming out of the other side. And I would support anyone here in trouble.
I also said lets start a fresh as Lyn has rightly said...but no is reading my posts so...perhaps one day..."A government afraid of its citizens is a Democracy. Citizens afraid of government is tyranny!" ~Thomas Jefferson

Jobs for today, collect all the equipment to return to the NHS that they loaned Mum whilst she was ill.
I have completed most of the tidying up. Will get some of the draught excluding tape to put around the front door and maybe some bubble wrap.

Mar:- Didn't Mrs Trunchbull from Matilda have an empty cupboard?;)
Am on my way to my DD's whose post delivery stitches have torn! sorry if thats too much info, it's a nurse thing we will talk about 'things' I'm a bit chewed about her, but the midwife is coming and if all else fails I had 5 years in theatre so I know how to handle a suture... see... nurse's black sense of humour!:)Give us the strength to encounter that which is to come, that we may be brave in peril, constant in tribulation, temparate in wrath, and in all changes of fortune, and down to the gates of death, loyal and loving to one another.”0 -
Elizamoose, I've just had an op on my hand and was in a cast for two weeks. It was a bit frustrating (understatement) so I sympathise. However, although I couldn't physically organise things I could plan. My finances are up to date, I have a freezer inventory and meal plan sorted, I have done the online Christmas shopping and I have done my own version of the Christmas Countdown (from organized Christmas)
I'm lucky that this time the operation has gone much better than last time and I can now use my hand pretty well without yowling in pain although I still can't drive. But it brings it home to you how much you need two good hands. I was a bit ambitious last Sunday and tried to do pastry - not a good idea!
Fuddle, I'm so sorry you got so upset, please don't feel too churned up about it. I know that you act with integrity the whole time whatever bad luck you had in the past. And I could see that maintaining your integrity matters to you, that's why it all seemed so important. Let it go now though, darling and focus on you and yours. It doesn't matter if you are a glass half full or half empty sort of person. Keep it topped up! Cheers!0 -
Not sure if this will help anyone (I wish I'd spotted it when I was still volunteering) but Tom Farmer/Pat McGinley garages do 50% of MOT's and 10% off everything else if you work in the volunteer sector.CC2 = £8687.86 ([STRIKE]£10000[/STRIKE] )CC1 = £0 ([STRIKE]£9983[/STRIKE] ); Reusing shopping bags savings =£5.80 vs spent £1.05.Wine is like opera. You can enjoy it even if you don't understand it and too much can give you a headache the next day J0

MEME - The underneath desk space is very small, hope you're just a little 'un, mind on the plus side we'd all be nice and warm. Thank you for thinking of us that is so very kind. The poor old boy came and scratched on my bedroom door at 1 ish this morning and then shared the single bed with me (I say shared, but he had more of it than I did!!!) until Dadi got up to make tea, I was than abandoned but how lovely it was to actually uncurl and stretch!!! They are out for walkies at the moment, Dadi was looking like an elderly pixie when he left as he has his beany hat pulled up into a point and for some reason has taken to wearing his poppy stuck into the front of it - very fetching I'm sure!!! Have a good day my friend, hope the new baby and your daughter are progresseing well, Cheers Lyn xxx.0

Hello all! Been reading but not yet posted on this thread. Breaking the unintentional silence because I'm stunned & amazed by something I heard last night - they're setting up a food bank in our little town.
That probably doesn't seem like earth-shattering news to most of you & I'm not exactly pleased that it had to happen, but for once, someone in this "We're-all-right-Jack" little haven of carefully-preserved middle-class tranquillity has managed to see out of the leaded double-glazing & see that it's not actually all right for everyone and that "the poor" (who don't live here, of course) are not quite as feather-bedded by the State as some seem to believe.
Mind you, I think it's going to have to go a bit further than just food; they're (very sensibly) going to be collecting food that can be cooked rather than instant food, but when I asked the girl who's organising who's going to make sure that the recipients a) know how to cook it and b) have the equipment to cook it with, she was nonplussed. Having worked at the local playgroup for many years & done home visits, I know that a number of local families are living with miniscule kitchenettes with no storage space, & their cooking equipment is limited to a microwave & maybe a fridge - there's nowhere to store pans, slow cookers or casserole dishes.
However, it's a landmark moment for me; I spent several years trying to convince people that we here are not immune from things going awry in the wider world, and mostly met with blank incomprehension. Yet for years I've also had neighbours who exist on a pittance from payday to payday & "borrow" a few eggs from me when they're desperate but keep a "good face" on the misery & worry and blame themselves for not "managing" better. Sincerely hoping that some of the biggest blocks to improving life for the less-fortunate around here might now be shaken out of their complacency & comfort zones a bit...Angie - GC Aug25: £106.61/£550 : 2025 Fashion on the Ration Challenge: 26/68: (Money's just a substitute for time & talent...)0 -
