GRANDMA - Lakela*d Plastics sell a lighter weight plastic bodied mincer that is also a pasta maker too and I believe there is a sausage maker attachment you can get as well. I only have the mincer and it doesn't clamp like the old fashioned ones but has a suction thingy to pull it down to the work surface when in use. I find it very useful and easy to clean. I think they are under £30 so not cheap but maybe something to have a look at if you're interested, Cheers Lyn xxx.0

lisakay, Im glad things are getting fixed for you. Thats the point DS was making they are taking money from people who have never used Wonga. Im sure it was on watchdog a few months ago and the company tried to say they worked really hard to prevent it happening and Anne Robinson ripped their arguement apart. I just cannot believe that the banks let them access people accounts - very worrying!
I had a trial transaction on my account from the USA a few years ago 50p and the bank saw that immeadiately and rang me to see if I was abroad. The thing that sticks out in my mind is that wonga did a trial transaction therefore they were testing your account therefore you have a serious reason to prove it was fraud
Its freezing here, just nipping out to collect DD and DGs from a playcentre then snuggling down under a blanket for the day. SC going on with a chunk of lamb neck in - helps warm the house.Clearing the junk to travel light

Morning everyone, super frosty here. Checked on mum, shes going on the bus to town for essentials - didnt want me to take her. Popped round to elderly neighbour she is ok, heating is on at her house. She doesnt need anything but was greatful that we popped round.
Have made beds, sorted out tea for OH - steak pie from the village butchers so all homemade sortof!!
Have work again later, so will drop DD at collage for her 1 hour lesson gggrrrr!! then call in @ldi. need fresh veg and fruit - than need some extra bits so mite have to use sainsbobs as its virtually next door to work.
New neighbours have got the keys for nextdoor. Its council like mine, but they on ly get a year by year tenancy. Their circumstances are checked each year if they still need a council place. Im glad we arent assessed, im sure they would expect us to move as we both work, but weve put a lot of effort into making the house and garden nice. My best find was a free kitchen with new appliances. Someone bought ahouse and didnt like the kitchen so they took out the whole thing and was skipping it. Brand new hob, oven and extractor too... omg i was in there like a flash. I did ask them first and they were more than happy. When collecting the final load they offered us a free leather sofa, we didnt need it but we donated it to a needy family we know. And the other fact is i like where i live, well sort of lol
ight must get dinner and then pack up some thing for my tea.
take care everyone xBSC member 137

Want a free guide to staying warm and a free thermometer(even though you probably know it all)and still struggle to pay the bills and leave it on.

Started my morning in the usual haphazard way by dropping my mobile in the bathroom and yes nearly straight down the toilet -I was very lucky indeed:)
Since I've had this slipped disc, I have become unbelievably clumsy. I have now lost count of the many mini crisis I've created. I have just wandered out to spread salt along the pathway to the garage in hope of diverting another situation.
kittie thank you for the weather link, although it didn't actually work for me, but I still managed to find my way to the page. I was taking a fairly laid back approach to the predicted weekend weather, but now I'm not so sure. It really does look as if it will be bad. Rather worrying as DS2 is coming home by train for a couple of days tonight and has a hospital appointment first thing in the morning.
We do have a mini Co**p in the village but this would very soon run short. Otherwise it's around 3 miles to the nearest supermarket and when it snows heavily , we usually get cut off. We have plenty of Milk, Potatoes and Onions stored and enough flour to make quite a few HM loaves. Other basic foods are fairly well stocked, but we could possibly run out of meat, depending on the severity of the weather. Maybe our opportunity to become veggie:)
My worry is for older folks (and I'm fast becoming one of them) but I mean much older than me, the housebound and vunerable. There are none in our little road, there are only 9 houses and we're all pretty similar ages, apart from two slightly younger couples. We tend to help each other out, but no doubt there are those further afield who may be even more isolated. A possibly very worrying situation.
Today I think this is the coldest I have felt this winter, although the heating is on and I should be quite cosy, but there's a definate penetrating chill. Probably exacerbated by me not being as active at the moment as I would like to be. So wrap up warm everyone and take care.
Hoping to get a Chicken Curry made later for when DH gets home and DS2s train gets in.
lisakay Glad things are looking better for you today, what a shocking thing to have happened.

I am cooking a huge pot of snowy weather/powercut soup ie veg and lentil, quick to heat up if no electricity, we do not have gas here. We are talking of 30-50 cm of snow and strong winds ie quick, massive and dangerous drifts. I am very concerned for people in cars, on trains etc. I have sent the link to my family and told them to circulate it. We have been so let down by the met and tv, their computer models just cannot cope. This will be a very dangerous situation
I have also brought enough bags of fuel into the house and the snow shovel will be brought in too0 -
Pops, I heard a sheep farmer interviewed on the radio and they were discussing mutton and how out of favour it is with the general run of the British population. It is however popular in certain ethnic communities; do you have a halal butcher in your area, thinking they might have it?
I am currently out of the country for work - I am in Sri Lanka (34 degrees, thanks very much - not that I am seeing a lot of it, i am in offices with no windows and air con!:D) but I have seen a lot of mutton on the menus here. I had mutton curry in the hotel the other night and it was delish, really tender and flavourful (and cheap!). I think some mutton here is actually goat, I read somewhere. My OH went to Eritrea in Africa a few years ago and came back saying he'd eaten goat - my friend then said that the sunday school were celebrating that they'd raised enough money to send a goat to Africa :rotfl:
I hope it doesn't snow so bad that my plane can't land Sunday lunchtime. Much though I am not looking forward to the temperature difference, I do actually want to get back.I wanna be in the room where it happens0 -
Uh oh, just starting to snow ...0
-
I may just have to ask as I pass butchers and perhaps I'll hit lucky regarding the mutton VJM.
OK I know that I try to save on the heating but even I have to admit it's b***** cold. So far no more snow but its got no chance of thawing out. I don't have to go out so why should I? Yet I keep having a fight with myself about staying in.
Just had a cup a soup, some of my medication and have done a HWB. They never seem as warm in a cover...but my feet are warmer."A government afraid of its citizens is a Democracy. Citizens afraid of government is tyranny!" ~Thomas Jefferson
