i got paid yesterday and moved my wages to our joint acc to cover bills, petrol and shopping. went into shop after work and my card was declined! (DH paid on his cc in the end). got home and checked the acc and the transfer was showing, but only £4.25 available. ended up spending an hour on the phone to the bank being transferred between customer services and fraud dept. wonga, the payday loan company (which we have never had dealings with) had done a 'test transaction' of 10p then proceeded to carry out more, bigger transactions until our account was empty.
That's terrible!!!! I hope you get it sorted out soon.

I just found this http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b006mg74/features/wonga-account-fraud0 -
 That is so careless of the bank.
A pal who had to fly from UK to Eire at short notice (family crisis) had his debit card declined at the airport when he tried to make a modest food purchase. He called his bank and was told it was because there was a suspicious transaction as in Oh Mr Bloggs someone was trying to use your card at Blankety Airport.
Yes, he told them. It's me. I'm at the airport and I'm flying to (insert irish town name) and the card is with me and will you kindly un-freeze it?!
So he flies to that named town and within a couple of hours is making a small retail transaction with the same card in the same town that he'd named as his destination and it was again declined. He rang the bank again and was told it was a suspicious transaction and he explained that it wasn't, it was him, he'd already told them he was flying to ( ) and could they please unfreeze his bliddy card?!
From what I've read about fraud the 0.10 test transaction is a classic ruse to see if the account is valid and should've flagged up as suspicious from the get-go yet they let this outfit loot your account without querying it? Unbelievable.
You poor thing. I'd be in orbit with rage if it was me.Every increased possession loads us with a new weariness.

Thanks Savingqueen, Elizabunny, Kidcat and Fuddle. I slept very well, didn't know I could sleep entirely without wriggling, but it seems it's possible! Hubby has as a result also slept better than normal (I really am a bedtime olympian). So well in fact he might kneecap me if I recover....
Kidcat, at the risk of repeating myself, check this out and read the reviews. I keep saying how it fixed my back (with 2 bulged discs), but there's others who think the same: http://www.amazon.co.uk/Sarah-Keys-Back-Sufferers-Bible/dp/0091814944 And it doesn't require you rest, just 10 mins exercise a day.
Fuddle you're right about that, the people who question the quality of cheap food saying "well, what do they expect?" are the ones not having to eat it. On the horsemeat issue, I wouldn't have a problem eating it, I have a problem with it being mislabeled. I think there are very few things I wouldn't eat (bugs, eyeballs, dogs and cats) and whilst I realise this is an emotional view not a practical one, I'm not in a situation where I have to make a more practical one!
Unixgirl, it is still quiet yet. And though it seems to you that you've been applying forever, it hasn't been that long. You'll get there *hugs*
GQ, I thought you'd roasted a neighbour called Michael and were popping the remains in the omelette.... I didn't really, but I did wonder what "mics" were, it was too early for me to figure it out for myself.
2Tonsils, the cinnamon and honey liqueur sounds lovely, is that bought or do you have a recipe?
So sorry to hear of your troubles Lisakay. You can also put that down to it being an accidental carry over from 2012, rather than a 2013 disaster. I hope it's resolved sooner.Softstuff- Officially better than 0070 -
lisa that is awful, its so common now as well which is more worrying, I remember paying in a shop and they said it needed phone verification and took it off to "call" thankfully I knew something was wrong and was calling my bank whilst stood there - turns out they were cloning it!
ETA - softstuff thank you, I will have a look tomorrow when on a computer.
I have finally eaten and am now taking my pills, thank goodness. My uncle is very poorly, and the hospital dont seem to be giving any clues as to what it is. I have promised to take my mum back tomorrow night but have said I cannot do Friday as we are having a dinner party. His daughter is working all weekend and will not be able to visit at all so I have also promised we will cover the weekend, OH just looked at me when I told him, but as I said what else could I do, I cant see him alone or my cousin struggle alone. We will get through this we always do.0 -
oh my goodness that article is horrifying. So sorry this happened to you lisakay. it was bad enough when an elderly friend had her card cloned. fortunately she had worked for cab so she could strong arm the bank when they doubted her. She changed her bank after that.
I think I should throw my hat in the door before coming in here.
Twenty years ago I tipped my two hand mincer machines! Our lives had changed from living in a two bedroom house with four kids and not much money to living in a two bedroom flat with a lot more money, for a while anyway. I did not have the time or the space to keep them and no one, not even charity shops wanted them. Oh how I wish I had even one of them now.0 -
grandma247, all isn't lost, I see these tip up from time to time esp at boot fairs. I think they resurface from the oldies' kitchens when they pass and no one knows what they are. Here's hoping that one wings its way to you soon.
I very rarely use my debit card to pay for things, I tend to pay cash for everything and never bank online or over the phone and have never purchased online. After what you hear, makes you feel a little less old-fashioned. Not that I give a monkey's about being old-fashioned, of course.
Besides, I used to work in a money advice service and know exactly how much gen you can get about someone's life from simply glancing down their bank statement. I don't care for TPTB to know that much about me.:pEvery increased possession loads us with a new weariness.

Those hand mincing machines were fabulous! My late DM always had one, have no clue what happened to it. I managed to buy one about 4 years ago, but it's a bit flimsy compared to Mum's. I think it cost me about £25 but there were better ones. I think it has just catapulted itself out of oblivion, as I haven't used it for a while, but I like making sausages with it.:)Sealed Pot Challenge 7 Member 022 :staradmin:staradmin:staradmin

My machines were very heavy ones.
I would like to try making sausages with ddil not able to have wheat. Normally wheat free are very expensive but mr S has some frozen ones which are not bad and not expensive but it would be nice to have a go at making them. Also I fancy making a vegetarian version.
I made some wheat free fig rolls. I haven't tested one yet but they look good.0 -

They sound like Mum's, she always had it on the go, mincing something or other. The thing about making your own sausages is you can put exactly what you like in them. I asked the butcher for diced lean pork and some belly pork, because you need the fatty pork as well for the right consistency. I need to look up the recipes again:o. I didn't put wheat in mine and used oats instead with some nice herbs. I did have a go at veggie ones, but they didn't turn out too well and I didn't like them, but my DDiL did, so maybe it was just me.Sealed Pot Challenge 7 Member 022 :staradmin:staradmin:staradmin

hi all,
kidcat - ouch you really need some rest chick. sorry to hear about your mums brother. Hope something good happens soon, you need it.
The school are shocking regarding your son, they should be taking his consideration and your needs into they care. Its ridiculous that they can treat you this way.
lisa - how can they do that, surely they can't leave you with nothing. I'm so angry for you
Softstuff - sounds like you have a good physio there.
Fuddle - good luck with he forms and the car!
SQ - great news with the courses:)
Katie - glad you chilled today
My partner laughed about the horse meat and said no wonder they tasted better than usual :rotfl:Honestly only he would say that!
We are in this country quite picky about what kinds of meat we have. It is shocking though that the food wasn't correctly labelled, what if you had a allergy to one of the ingredients?!
Pops could be a good idea to do a course and i wouldn't worry about food and things, like you say you have a good stockpile and financially you are secure. I.e no debts etc so if anything happens you'll be fine.
Went to sisters today, my mother popped round so we chatted. Lets just say a lot of stuff was brought up so i was nearly in tears. I was brought up my by grandparents from birth and never lived with my biological mother. So yep a hard emotional day but now my sister understands why i'm so protective over my children and why i don't really get along with the rest of the extended family. A lot of home truths came out about i don't trust our mother with money and that i knew she called me all sorts behind my back. Families eh? Its like a soap opera:rotfl:
Oh and just found out about some courses to do with autism, and it looks like i can attend them for free due to funding. So going to see about attending some, also need to contact some schools about a placement. Also need to finish forms to see about going back to uni in september.
So could be good as i want to hopefully work within the educational system and special needs.0
