I realised I honked again before too, sorry. Why it changes a perfectly normal word like think into honk I do not know!
You just keep on honkin' girlie!
I honk the whole horsemeat in beefburger thing is worrying too. It's highly unlikely to be an isolated incident, even if it turns out to be some mix up between meat intended for a european market and meat intended for sale in the UK.
For that reason, the value products I definitely don't buy are mince, beefburgers, pies and sausages. If I use mince it's turkey mince (but heaven only knows, that might be dodgy too, I suppose). I reckon I'm still safe with fish fingers though!
Verrrrrry cold here tonight. I've had the central heating on since it's been below freezing, just morning and evening to keep everything flowing and take the chill off. Blizzards on Friday for some of us... brrr! Keep warm, toughies.I believe in the freedom of spinach and the right to arm bears.

We don't eat minced meat at all. I just can't eat it. I like to see the meat I am eating. I use soya mince. It's great, you can cook it straight from the freezer in 20 mins. It doesn't taste of much, but if you cook it the day before, it absorbs the taste of sauce you are cooking it in.
From a young age dd always checked the chicken in any nuggets I bought. People used to laugh at her. This small child - checking the chicken breast content.
EDIT We don't eat minced meat not meat mince. Am changing it now.0 -
Well, suppose I better get the tea on. Omelette incorporating mics leftovers. Hmm, can't see that rocking a restaurant menu somehow. What would be the post spin on that, d'you think?
Aside form the mics /mice issue that someone commented on earlier :rotfl:said dish is called 'frittata' round here. We had it last night, and fought over the leftovers for sandwiches this morning0 -

I'm afraid I scarfed the lot.
A bit fretful about the extreme weather predicted for Friday. Folks are taking Nan to hospital. This involves 15 miles to hers on the back roads (cart tracks with tarmac on tbh), 15 miles up an A grade road and 15 miles back from the hosp, then the last leg of 15 miles on the tiddly-widdly steep roads. If SHTF these backroads won't be ploughed or gritted and some of the places they will cross are sparesely-settled and you'd have to walk about 3 miles to the nearest farm for help.
I have serious concerns. Parents are 70, Nan is 90 this year and the weather is predicted to be horrendous. Nan's village always cops the snow, there was 6 inches there yesterday. If it snows badly on Fri I really hope they call the hospital to make their apologies and don't go. It would be bad to let the hospital down but the potential for getting stuck and the possible consequences are dreadful. There's no public transport on offer.
Ah well, we'll see what we'll see, come the day. I shall be staying in the city centre where I live and work; poor lottie will have to look after itself under the snow.Every increased possession loads us with a new weariness.

GQ I was hoping to get on the lotty this weekend too, but I would love to have snow. we rarely get very much and i have the girls sledges ready. The world feels a much brighter, 'funner' place with a fresh snow fall. i know its completely selfish and so many people will struggle with the snow, but i am in dire need of some fun.
you know how when a year starts badly and you really think things will get better soon? well my year just seems to be getting worse and worse!
i got paid yesterday and moved my wages to our joint acc to cover bills, petrol and shopping. went into shop after work and my card was declined! (DH paid on his cc in the end). got home and checked the acc and the transfer was showing, but only £4.25 available. ended up spending an hour on the phone to the bank being transferred between customer services and fraud dept. wonga, the payday loan company (which we have never had dealings with) had done a 'test transaction' of 10p then proceeded to carry out more, bigger transactions until our account was empty.
no money for shopping, bills or petrol until it gets refunded...it cant get refunded until the company bank my money as the transaction is pending and my bank dont know how long it will take, might be 2 days could be a week or more:mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad:.
god only knows how they got our details. i'm normally very careful in my dealings and never let my card out of my sight when paying (used to work in a bank) always check card machines for dodgy devices etc.
just as well we're well stocked and we do have a very small amount of savings towards a holiday that we can use for fuel to get DH to work.
we'd managed to spend less this month as well and were hoping to get a couple of things paid off
So, that will be the end of the bad stuff, let it be known. I am not allowing any more bad luck into the house. the doors are barricaded.
If the rest of you would like to send me your bad luck to then I shall send that packing too

Oh, and that other job i was told about...well that was exagerrated too. same job as i'm doing now but 2.5 hours more a week. and 5 miles further away, so would have to drive to allow for getting back in time for school runs. not even worth my time applying for it.
will laugh about it cos if i don't...
eta: omg i'm such a moaning minnie!
who was counting their blessings earlier? i too am blessed. i have a job, a house, a wonderful family, some amazing friends, lots to look forward to and fantastic memories to look back on.freecycler and skip diver extraordinnaire:cool:0 -
To be honest, I 'm scared half to death about what gets put in our food. It's shocking, that just because people perhaps have to buy a cheaper product that it gives someone the all clear to put in whatever they like. Horsemeat might be tasty for some people and that's fair enough, but if you don't want it and don't intend to buy it, it shouldn't be hidden in your food.
It's perfectly acceptable and probably really tasty for people to eat rabbit as well, but I wouldn't/couldn't and I would be devastated if someone hid it in my food. Nuts are lovely, well I love them, perfectly acceptable to many but not everyone, my DS1 would suffer a severe reaction if any passed his lips.
My point is, that you should have the confidence to know that if a product states a list of ingredients, then that is what should be in it. No ifs, buts, or maybe's.
I personally am really fussy about meat, but like so many others cannot afford to be to choosy. I do use a local butcher rather than a supermarket because I trust what I buy from him, he will mince meat in front of me and he is no more expensive and possibly cheaper. I also try to make my own sausages & burgers too, if we are having them (not often) and when time allows.
I don't buy bread anymore and very rarely cakes and biscuits. This stems from my DH having prolems with commercial bread and my DS1 being unable to tolerate any dairy produce at all for the first 10-12 years or so of his life -it was a nightmare.
So when they say oh dear, oh sorry, we don't know how that got in there. I think they need to think again and make sure that it doesn't happen again.Sealed Pot Challenge 7 Member 022 :staradmin:staradmin:staradmin

Lisakay that's a justified couple of moans.....what a PITA.
I'm coooooold here, and the heating has been on all day. I used to be such a warm morsel, but since the knee replacements I really feel the cold, and if my knees get cold I find it impossible to get warm again. Don't know if it's to do with having metal there, wierd.
Anyway, off to parcel up the vat of bolognaise sauce I made earlier.
Stay safe and warm everyone.0 -
 OMG, they've emptied your bank account?!
That is truly scary. I've never worked in banking but I am Ms Paranoid about my bank account, too, and would feel very aggrieved if my bank allowed something so dodgy to go thru without querying it with me.
I made my bank order me a new non-contactless debit card earlier this week as they'd replaced my current one (exp end of month) with a contactless one without my say so. Yeah, really happy to carry a card with a RFID chip broadcasting all my card details for several feet to anyone who has the right bit of hooky gear to capture them - and that can be in a mobile phone.
One of my pals dealt with his utility provider's overseas call centre and was left with a nagging suspicion that something wasn't quite A-OK. He checks his bank account daily and saw multiple transactions on Fleabay and cancelled it immediately.
Could someone have got your details off your pooter or off a contactless card? Really hope you get your money refunded to you asap.Every increased possession loads us with a new weariness.
