Kittie - its lovely to "see" you again, thank you for the link
we have already had a little snow but not huge amounts although it is forecast here for 5-10 something either inches or centimetres, cant remember which
I have been out all day and am now very grateful to be home and warm and not going back out again.
DD6 started vomitting just before school today so has been off and my mum has had to sit with her - this means we cant go to visit at the hospital until we are 24hrs after anyone is ill!
I served turkey stew, coffee cake and experimental coffee and banana muffins today at group which all went down well, although there was no stew left, oops as that was my plan for OH dinner this evening
Had to quickly throw a risotto in the SC instead but its highlighted that I really need to shop, I was supposed to go yesterday, but with all the unexpected stuff didnt make it.
WIth DD being off today my shopping time was swallowed up so I will have to wander out tomorrow and shop for the weekend at least.
DD18 has an exam tomorrow and college have said that come hell or high water the exam will run and that they must be there - have asked DS14 to get sledge from loft just in case - I figured we could hitch it to the dog and get her there that way if needs be:rotfl:0 -
evening everybody, hope you are all staying warm and safe.
It has been really cold here today and snow isn't forecast til the afternoon tomorrow so I'm hoping I can pick my boys up from school ok. If it looks bad I am going to drive to my friend's house virtually opposite the school or failing that hide out in a local supermarket (with a cafe) so at least I can get to school on time to collect them or earlier if the school shuts early. DS6 is coming down with a cold though so a bit worried if we had to walk home 2 miles being unwell. I;m not expecting it to be that bad but I like to panic ahead :rotfl:
Mixed bag day today. Its my birthday! DH is, as I type, sitting an exam (please send positive vibes his way) so on my ownsome with kids watching TV. He had a day off work so he did the morning school run, put the bins out and even made me a cup of tea (that's how I knew it was my birthday hee hee!) -did have to suggest the school run part though (honestly!).
Kids made me cards - DS6 was about "mummy on an adventure" and feature me riding a bear on one side and riding a blue whale on the other. Fantastic imagination he has. They chose a little vintage type red and cream, all in one sugar bowl and jug and matching little plate. It will complement my all in one china teapot and cup and saucer set they bought me last year. I use this when I went to have some quality time for myself.
DH's gift is a promise to take me to see a ballet in London - he has an idea where but we need to arrange childcare which is tricky and a big ask. My wonderful friend has offered to babysit - she is the only one I feel 100% ok looking after DS6.
I met some friends in a coffee shop in the morning which was lovely. One friend had got a photo of the four of us taken in the summer and got it printed onto a magnetic surface - I'm always in awe of anything vaguely technical - and currently in pride of place on the fridge. Also had several other homemade cards- so lucky.
Then out for a carvery lunch with DH and back in time for a cuppa and chill before school run.
Its all been lovely - only marred a little by issues from both sides of extended family. My mum phoned while I was out and said would phone back this eve but I am just not up to it today and will let her call go to answerphone. Mum and dad and my sister sent cards and gifts but to be honest they have upset me. I have put them all away in a cupboard. I would rather have a simple sorry and a proper talk than a million presents. Oh well, I will push it all to one side to deal with another time. DS6 was up in the night with nightmares so I didn't get much sleep and too tired/emotional to handle it all.
Sorry to vent a bit, just feeling a bit emotional even though I have had a lovely day. Silly me I know!

saving queen - happy birthday, and ((hugs)) families are difficult things to handle.
my dad is moaning about my weight at the moment, and as DD18 said he has no filter on his gob!! He says my back is related to my weight problem - I would like to point out that I may need to lose a few pounds but my GP said when I said I wanted to lose some "why" so I am not That bad!!
He is also acting in a very controlling manner, moaning about my doing my group, trying to stop us visiting hospital etc, moaning about DS14 not wanting to leave me the list goes on.
Sometimes the only answer is to hide away for a bit until you are ready to deal!!0 -
Happy Birthday savingqueen! :bdaycake:

Happy birthday sq:j:beer::j
Evening all brrrrr its cold. Had the heating set to come on at 5:30a, got up and the house had only warmed up to 15 degrees. Forced ds1 into wearing a jumper, we worked it out it was -7.5 this morning whends1 went to school. The school have a no coat policy in school or carrying one around. ridiculous.
OH had another full day of driving and giving quotes. The stupid van wouldn't start this money so luckily the meter turned up to do a reading and jump started the van at the same time. Bonus. Found out the blumming screen wash froze in the wiper try this morning.
DS2 is freaking out a bit, OH couldn't take him to school because he had to travel to work. So i started to take him, all was well. Then the ice struck, a lovely neighbour took him the rest of the way, i stood and waved. He wasn't happy in the slightest. Poor kid its all change in his routine and he's finding it hard to cope.
Thanks for warning kittie, its looks really bad.
Signed up to another course today with the main project, looks good and local funding means i can do it for free.:).
Made a lovely fruit bread today, even got ds2 to eat raisins:eek:
Oh its snowing again, i hope a lot comes so it covers the ice in the morning.0 -
kezlou - DS14 school has the same policy, enforced by teachers stood in thick coats, hats and gloves, hypocrisy is alive and well in education!
As for DS and the changes can you pre prepare him for a possible change - while my back is sore I am telling DS8 mummy is collecting you from school - unless her back is very sore, and then we will have to see. Its far from ideal but its a little bit of prep.
Some people also advocate integrating a whoops card into lifestyle, so that when something unexpected happens you can produce the whoops card to show you know its difficult and understand but there is nothing else you can do,:)0 -
:bdaycake::bdaycake: And here's a birthday cake each for savingqueen and stiltwalker's is a wee bit early. Happy birthday to you both.
Well, city is still icy and if it can freeze it has bliddy frozen and stayed frozen. SuperGran has grounded herself and I'm her voluntary go-fer. It was meds today and is bread tomorrow.
We've still got plenty of Tuesday's snow but are awaiting some more any minute. Office colleagues are rockin' interesting wardrobe choices and I'm on-trend with my fake fur trapper hat and boots. Gawd, I am inordinately-fond of that trapper hat, it's beyond snug. Treat yourself to one and love your head and your ears in fake furry-cuddliness. They have 'em in Primarche.
Have managed to get the extended family (pensioner cohort) grounded and the family mogs have been impersonating furry custions for days. They're not daft, are they?
Right, off for a little bit of interwebulating then an early night, I'm cream-crackered. Going to be a "fun" day tomorrow and I never want to order another grit-bin refill as long as I live..............:rotfl:Every increased possession loads us with a new weariness.

I don't envy any of you the weather that is being forecast...hope you all stay warm whether its with furry trapper hats, warm cats or wood burners. We are still in the dangerous storm warning and keep getting bad hail storms. Some people here have had just 3 hours electric since Sunday! I don't know how they are coping with kiddies to feed and keep warm.
For some reason we have snow forecast for tomorrow and a high of 12 degrees, not sure how they figured that one out. Making a flask of chicken and leek soup to take to the gym with me while I am helping out. Cold salads and pouring rain do not go well together.
Pops please put your heating on for a while....hypothermia can set in without you noticing. Make a flask of hot soup in case the electric goes off, cold food will not keep you warm in those kind of temperatures and could lower your core body temperature which is dangerous.
Have stocked up today as the stores were running short of imported things as all ferries and planes have been called off till the storms stop. Local food was still plentiful and the veg and fruit were cheap as anything...with the exception of potatoes which were extortionate. I had the good fortune to spot a gypsy selling sack fulls for 12 euros...a third of the price of the Lidl ones and much better quality.
My new boss is pleased with the job I am doing and its great being able to work from home for this one.
