Icy winds here too, but ATM the yellow ball is showing it's face.
We've (me, OH and DS) just walked the dogs on the beach and bought back loads of driftwood. There's tons of it at the estuary, what with all the flooding and stuff upstream a couple of weeks back, that's where it all ends up. We've stuck it in the conservatory to dry off a bit. I think we'll go back tomorrow in the Jeep, which although smaller is 4 wheel drive. If we put the back seats down we can fill that up to actually on the beach. This cold snap is supposed to be for a fortnight.
I went into the cafe this morning, as DD was there for the last time, she asked me to print of her resignation and drop it in. Idiot manager popped in and took DD to one side, to say she was 'sorry' about how things had turned out and that it was 'probably just as well now DD has found out she's pregnant' and that she was 'sorry there weren't more hours this week but that things would pick up!" DD told her A) It was not a matter for her to decide if DD should work while she was pregnant andShe wasn't bothered about what hours she could 'offer her' because she was quitting as of today! It was apparent that it was the first idiot manager had heard of it, and she obviously hadn't considered that might be an option, she was really flustered and scuttled off in a flap. Ha. So the trustee DD spoke to must have chosen not to pass on that DD had said she would be quitting (or chose to let DD tell her anyway :rotfl:)
DD told me one of our lovely regular customers (who is another trustee) came in and told DD he was really sorry she been treated the way she has, and that he's bought her a moses basket he saw in a charity shop and thought she'd really like. Such a sweet man.
Anyway, I better see if I can defrost something for dinnerTime for tea and cake I think!

Aria's Tail that does seem really tough. I wonder if you can get something closer to home which doesn't involve such long live-ins.
Kate - really I'd like to give that manager a good piece of my mind. I suspect it has only just occurred to her just how much she has messed up other people's lives.
In the middle of a big cleaning spree here and I need a rest!0 -
Brilliant news about DD Stiltwalker, very positive and great to hear of her academic prowess as well as her good nature and manners. You must be so proud! Hope you are feeling better really soon.
Katie - just wanted to add to others' comments about the way you and DD have been treated at work. You deserve so much better and you are well shot of the place and the manager. It will work out fine in the long term, just wait and see
Kidcat - are you ok love? Your trip to panto with DS8 and co sounded stressful. Make sure you stop to breathe and have a cuppa even if you are mega busy.
Fuddle - great news about MIL lending you money for a car. See stuff generally works out one way or another!
GQ - I had the same thoughts about my contactless card recently. I don't want it, just want an ordinary cash/debit card. I worry if it gets nicked and someone has a field day popping in from one shop to another quickly swiping away. How could you prove it wasn't you? I meant to query it but as my old card's date was up, I ended up just shoving the new one in my purse. Mine did say that you may be asked for your chip and pin on first use so I figure if I don't activate it, the risks are lower.
Aria - chin up love, we are all here for you and sending you positive vibes. Big hugs to you.
Kezlou - glad you had a nice day even though it wore you out with all the walking
Unix - good that OH had that eye appointment, hopefully things will be a bit better at home now. Hang in there love.
Mrs VP - fingers crossed for you re promotion. sending lots of positivity your way.
Mrs LW - may I just say that you are a lovely, thoughtful person? Day after day you post such kind, wise and uplighting posts. Thank you...
Still catching up on posts, sorry if I haven't mentioned some yet.
My boys (DH & kiddiwinks) are on a secret mission to town preparing for my birthday next week. Tomorrow I have to go out of the house (will go shopping) for a while - DH usually helps them make handmade cards.
I have a beef casserole in the oven and it smells divine, not ready for ages but getting hungry already. Yesterday we had jambalaya using up odd scraps of veg, ham and chicken - brilliant way to use leftovers and one of few meals everyone likes. You have to sing the jambalaya song though whilst it's being served!
Off to make soda bread and maybe a white loaf for DH who won't eat soda bread. We have lemon muffins, choc cupcakes and a lowfat banana and sultana loaf in the cupboard. Happy days!

Hi everyone, terribly cold here today. No clouds a ssuch so maybe snow will be coming to us at somepoint. Have topped up the prepayed meters, made sure there is plenty of gas for the heating. Have turned down the thermostat but have have left it on for a little longer. OH is asleep on the sofa, snoring ggrrrrr.
It is his brothers borthday today, they are going out for a meal this evening along with his ither brothers family and his parents. We havent been invited, nothing unusual there. He rang to meet his mum for coffee wednesday, she was too busy again. So he hasnt seen her since before christmas. Theres nothing i can do, but it annoys the hell out of me. One minute she wants to meet and talk, then theres nothing. Familes hay!!!
Well must dash, jobs to do. Take care everyone xBSC member 137

Hello KATE well done your DD for telling it like it is to the dippy manager, does she know you have resigned as well? I would like to be there to see her face when she realises just how lonely it is on your own in a canoe without a paddle!!! How lovely of the trustee to buy the moses basket, that is real kindness, what a nice man.
MRS VP Hope the tests went well this afternoon and that you are now relaxed!!
ARIA Lots of hugs and love coming your way, I do hope you feel more appreciated soon, the people you help really do appreciate what you do for them, I guess lots of folks can't express it though. All I can say is if we ever need help in the future I hope we are lucky enough to find a 'you' to give us a hand, bless you, we think you're lovely!!!
STILTWALKER - Hi HELEN what an accolade to your little DD how proud you both must be of her, what a little star. Hope you are feeling a bit more human after your horrible cold, how is little Master Stiltwalker going with the climbing? Hope all going well for him too.
UNIXGIRL so glad your OH has told you why he's been so grumpy lately, it must be very scary to think of loosing your sight and he was probably worried about his future, Good job he has a loyal strong girlie like you to back him up and help him cope!!
POSESSION glad the car is back with you, did it purr as you parked it at home?
SQ what a lovely thing to say, thank you so very much, you are so kind. I hope your lads have a successful stealth visit to town for your present and DH helping with homemade cards too, how nice is that? You are a lovely little family. I hope you have the best birthday when it comes around enjoy every second!
I didn't start out to write a novel, ooops!! Have a good evening all, Cheers Lyn xxx.0 -
Good things really do happen. We don't have to borrow money from anyone. My family have actually been gifted a little bit of money to buy a little car. It's an unbelievable situation to be in. One of complete and utter relief but one of embarrassment that you have to take a bail out. I have to admit that even though MIL was lovely for lending us I was worried about the £40 per month pay back on top of insurance and petrol costs. Relief. If you could see the road we have to cross you would all understand why a car is a must. Little one is actually having a nap as I type. 4.5 miles a day is just too much for them... Not to mention the amount of calories they're burning when they're slight anyway.

I need your help re: driving in winter conditions. I'm really scared to drive in frost let alone ice and snow. I wont have the option to not drive in those conditions what with having to get the girls to school so my question is: could you please share with me your winter driving tips.
Also, very excited I get to make myself a winter car emergency box0 -
Oh FUDDLE thats lovely, good, good, good!!!!!!I don't know if they do, but might you get a driving lesson to teach you how to drive in slippery conditions? I saw someone on the TV a little while ago on a skid pan to do just that, I am so out of touch with prices though, but it might be worth considering. Cheers Lyn xxx.
Hope the littlie who was poorly last week is now fully recovered, Lyn x.0 -
That's great news Fuddle. This might help a little: https://www.gov.uk/driving-adverse-weather-conditions-226-to-237/overview-226
and this: http://www.autotrader.co.uk/EDITORIAL/CARS/FEATURES/37863.html (the instructions are good on this but might be best not to watch the videos of cars skidding, they are mostly being boy racers anyway).0 -
Great news Fuddle.
Katieowl - good on DD!
Mrs LW - Lyn, thanks it was just so lovely to hear it from someone else at TBH Health have been underestimating her for so long we did have occasional niggley worries that we were just suffering from a bad case of deluded parent syndrome!!! We are inordinately proud of her - always! DS is getting better at the climbing every day - and now he's up here he has developed a huge interest in the laptops - so if I ever post a complete load of random letters you'll all know why! At his assessment on Wed his physio has said he will refer him to orthotics so he will get Piedro bots like his sister and hopefully that will help him even more, though I may look like I am being beaten on a regular basis as they are so solid they don't half leave massive bruises! With 2 of them climbing all over me I don't stand any chance of catching all feet before they make contact!0
