    Morning and welcome middymum :)

Katie well done both of you for making a stand, I hope you own business now thrives so much you can show them what they have lost:)

I am exhausted today, I accompanied DS8 on his school visit to the panto yesterday afternoon, which was extremely hard work, it also wasnt the best panto either. I ended up in an area with no staff and only two other parents - who were there to be with their child and watch the panto only it seems.
I was left trying to deal with DS8 and 15 more children some of whom were not well behaved and three went missing during the interval.
Had to summon staff to go looking as I really was not leaving DS.

I then came home loaded the car and we went to second panto as a family, it was a much better production but for me it was too much after the afternoon too. DS8 really struggled with it too. The big surprise was with DS14 who was freaked at the lead male role being played by a woman - I tried to explain panto tradition to him but he didnt get it.

Today I have to go through the whole house, OH has been off now for two days but as I was not in nothing has happened here and the whole house is awful. Added to DS14 having a CAMHS appointment for two hours today, DD18 wanting transporting into neighbouring town and I need to shop I have no idea where all the hours will come from.

Welcome and well done on getting a midwifery place for september, from what I hear it's very competitive, so congrats. I have applied to Truro knowledge spa in Cornwall for Adult Nursing, but there is only such a small amount of places for intake.. 50 approx that its real slim pickings and will have to wait until all interviews are finished to find out i think.... roughly April. In the mean time I am cracking on with the Access which is madness... sooo many assignments on the go at one time.;)

  • Morning Toughies, Hello to Own my Own and MiddyMum welcome to the thread. I went to the village shop for some carrots this morning and came away with reduced broccoli for 75p, a stew pack for 55p, 2 x Innocent Curries at 99p each, 2 x packs of Jam Tarts at 50p each, 6 wholemeal rolls for 50p, a pepperoni pizza for 75p and a cauliflower cheese for 80p goodness me, what a haul so I will have to change the weekend menu slightly to use up the goodies.

We were woken up this morning by a huge clap of thunder and torrential rain bouncing off the windows, the poor lurcher was terrified and shaking like a leaf, it is now very cold and grey and trying to rain again but hopefully all I have to do outside is walk the boy this afternoon and thankfully have the wet weather gear to stay dry in it. We are having lots of mini cut outs of electricity at the moment, everything just flicks off and on again, I am slightly concerned that we might get a serious outage if we do get snow. Mind we have solar lamps so we'll still be able to see, but life would be less easy if we get cut off for any length of time. Jump that one if it comes I suppose. Hope you are all as prepared for bad weather as you can be, and at least we'll still be able to chat if we're housebound for a while eh? Stay warm everyone, Cheers Lyn xxx.

Mr VP in a much better frame of mind now he knows he will not be having to go back to that particular job on Monday, he was not in a good place by Thursday and I was getting very worried about him as he is usually a very level person. As I said yesterday on the up side there are a couple of possibilities on the job horizon so fingers crossed. We just need to tighten our belts even further in the mean time. I think DD1 is going to have to use her student overdraft for her day to day living expenses as I can not see how we can continue to help her with these :(.

I did not share my good news with you from the beginning of the week. I have an interview on the 24th for a role that means promotion to a higher grade with 4 years pay rises to go with it :T. It is not a big pay rise but every little helps. I have to do some online psychological and cognitive tests today as part of the selection process so will be hunkered down with the netbook this afternoon. Wish me luck.

The meal planning and having a list of exactly what is in the freezer has meant that the weekly shop cost a lot less last night. The only extras I bought were some YS sliced meats which I have frozen to use in sandwiches for our pack ups.

I decided yesterday to stop doing the new physio exercises I was given on Monday as my back pain is much worse and I have had to increase my painkillers. I see the physio again on Monday and will discuss it with him then.

meme30 a few years ago my husband slipped 2 discs in his back and the company e worked for purchased a special raised desk with perching stool for him to use. When he left the company they gave it to him. That perching stool has been a great help to me since the car accident. It is backless and the seat is at an angle with a padded support you rest your knees on. It makes you sit in the correct posture and reduces the weight going through your lower spine. unfortunately it means that I can do the ironing :rotfl:.

I am with you GQ on the pin numberless transactions, it seems tome we are making these cards even easier to abuse.
I make BNS soup by roasting the squash (I peel it if I have had it stored for a long time or the soup has a grainy texture) , add it to fried onion and celery and simmer with veg stock and chilli powder.

it is a long time to wait, have they given you any reason for that?

I think it is appalling the way you and your daughter have been treated. You have your market business to concentrate on so I would give your letter in on Tuesday with your head held high and wait to see if your prediction about that business comes true
I am playing all of the right notes just not necessarily in the right order :D.

I did access as well, I finished mine in 2011, access is hard work isn't it, but it really does goes so quick. Fingers crossed you get your place as that really is a small figure for adult nursing intake so you have done really well to get an interview there. The uni I have my place at 800+ apply, and I am one of 23 places! I am still waiting to hear back from one other post interview, and I won't hear till March. The wait really is a killer, so you are not alone there.

I get overly anxious about certain things, my anxieties are something I struggle with so I don't have a great deal of advice that can help, but something I read recently was pretty good. Can't remember where I read it, but it said that worrying about things that haven't happened yet is like paying off a debt you haven't even accrued. I keep telling myself that and it helps somewhat.

My sympathies eliza. I had a slipped disc years ago and still have to be careful with my back. The pain at the time was horrendous, I will never forget it or being fed soup by my mother with a feeding cup. I hope you recover soon. A few visits to an osteopath was the only thing that really helped me and I would highly recommend it. Only thing is the cost - not sure you can get osteopathy on NHS (could be wrong though.) Worth considering?

Good to hear all people learning/who know sign language. I used to work for Sense years ago (charity working with/for deafblind people) and got my BSL level 1 and learnt deafblind alphabet. DH has a couple of childhood friends who are Deaf and came to our wedding and it was brilliant to meet them and actually be able to communicate with them (I did practise a bit beforehand)
I would love to do stage 2 at some point.

To be an interpreter, you do need to get to stage 2 and beyond though, probably much further than that, need to get lots of practise outside the classroom eg. at a Deaf club etc so you are looking at a few years of hard work. BSL interpreters are in demand though and can earn well. I used to have to book them up a long time in advance when I worked at Sense.

I'm sorry I am behind with posts and replying, never seems to be enough time in the day. Will try and come back later and catch up on other posts.... problem is new ones keep popping up in the meantime!

Little snippet of good news to share. DH passed his first exam for AAT course he is doing. He has been stressing and studying hard in equal measure and I have been crossing everything possible for him. Next one on Thursday. I hope he can focus ok as there are rumblings at work about changes afoot and probably another round of redundancies. His boss will not stick up for their dept at meetings and he has persuaded her to allow him to attend the next review meeting so he can speak up for them all - not his job to but he says if she won't, he will. I am proud of him though worry a little he will be first on redundancy list as he could be seen as a "troublemaker" in their blinkered eyes.

Righto got to make myself presentable and taxi my darlings off their dance class. Please, please, please let DS6 behave this time!

Have a good day all, hugs and hot drinks all round. A big warm welcome to our newbies- you've come to the right place and I will remember your names hopefully for next time :o

    onwards and upwards

Avoid reading the papers and watching the news too much - it has often been cited for inducing or exacerbating anxiety.
