  • GreyQueen: The best advice I got about butternut squash (from here I think!) was that you can get away without peeling it if you cook the soup for about 10 minutes than you would normally. I do a butternut squash and ginger soup: 1 large onion per 800g of butternut squash, fry the onion in a large saucepan for 5 mins, add the squash (cut into chunks) and fry for another 5 mins, add a couple of teaspoons (or more - depending on taste) of powdered ginger, stir around, add 1 litre of veg/chicken/whatever stock per 800g of squash. Bring to boil, cook for at least 30 mins: attack with stick blender.

Hugs to everyone, especially Unixgirl, Mrs VP and KatieOwl.

Sorry - got to hug and run.

    Sleep well everyone

Thanks 7WW - I'd forgotten about the not peeling squash thing.

I make BNS soup by frying off onion garlic and celery in oil with cumin powder. Add BNS and stock and boil [STRIKE]the fu[/STRIKE] er, boil it vigorously. Blend with a stick blender.
I wanna be in the room where it happens

OK. I give in. What's BNS please? I can't tell you what I've imagined it might be.

    Good grief!

I never pay more than £1 for an FB pie, those 425g ones in the flat tins. If the tins we priced at the GBP equivalent that would be £3.92 !!!!!!!!!!!!!!

How much does fresh steak cost per kilo, by any chance?

Casserole steak is $12.50 a kilo (about 8 quid). And those pies cost more here because most food does :rotfl: And GQ, I'm very jealous of your greengrocers. Like 7WW I don't peel a butternut squash. We don't peel pumpkin either here if we roast it.

As regards the Pay-wave card, we've had them for a little while here. There isn't an opt-out, I inquired immediately since I also wasn't keen, but I was told by the bank that any unauthorised transactions you report will be automatically refunded without question. So I was a bit reassured by that.

Elizabunny, sorry to hear you're suffering. I bulged 2 a few years ago and couldn't move for a while from the waist down. Check out the book "Sarah Keys Back Sufferers Bible" (she was Prince Charles Physio), I've found it very useful, my back is better than it's ever been.

Unixgirl, congrats on the interview! Can you not switch your phone to silent for the tarot? I hope your OH is wrong about the work drying up and *hugs* for dealing with his attitude.

I'm sorry to hear about your OH's new job MrsVP and hope something else does turn up for him quickly.

Missrlr, hope you're feeling better soon.

Katieowl, they're a bunch of numpties at the cafe for not treating your DD and you better and knowing what they should have hung onto. But you know that anyway and are best rid.

I'm just coming round tiredness wise. Still had a good long sleep though.

OMO: I think you must be completely exhausted. You have coped with so much in your life and, from what you say, with few people you could share problems with. Everything has possibly just caught up with you and what other people have said is probably true and you are suffering from anxiety, or even a form of depression. Do find someone you can talk to about this. If you need to change your GP don't be afraid. You can always use the excuse of finding it easier to have the same GP as your children - that's a very valid reason for changing. Please don't let it go on.

The 'toughies' thread is brilliant. I'm not having a particularly tough time at the moment, ( touches wood) I go on that thread because the people there are exceptional. They laugh with you, cry with you and are full of handy tips and cheap recipes. Yes, some people talk about their anxieties about the future, so you'll be in good company. And they do what it says on the tin, they support each other.
    Try it.

Don't despair petal, there IS light at the end of the tunnel.

Butternut squash! Of course. Not Bogeys, Nits and Snot then.

OMO, as you say there's no single clear reason for feeling so anxious, and even though times are getting tougher, you say you are in a reasonable position with no need to panic yet, so it does sound like you need to find a sympathetic doctor.

I can identify with the type of feelings you describe from when I was depressed. I was reluctant at the time to take the pills, but they really did help in the end - it's tough to see quite how bad it is until you feel normal again. You may find that meds help, or perhaps you simply need some talking therapy.

Whatever the reason, don't keep suffering alone. You need help so don't spend too long thinking about whether or not you should go, or if you deserve it or if it's all in your head or whatever - just go and get it. If you are dismissed by your doctor, find another one.

Do you perhaps think you haven't been to the doctor yet because you are anxious about being fobbed off again? I know I avoid the doctor sometimes because I expect that I will be told my symptoms are simply due to my weight, and that I should just eat steamed broccoli for lunch...
    Trust me - I'm NOT a doctor!
