stiltwalker :j littlies are doing so well x
katie...thats a disgraceful way to treat someone! can't believe they can get away with that, although in the long run it sounds like they wont actually be getting away with anything! idiots!
unixgirl, glad your DH is sorted. the change for life pack is ok, but nothing common sense wont tell you...swap crisps for fruit, full fat to semi milk, take more exercise...

apologies for not posting more regularly and to anyone i've missed out x
I've had one helluva few weeks. have been suffering from winter blues, had a fall out with a close friend (now made up but still not quite back to normal) DH's uncles funeral, then christmas and new year, mum is about to be diagnosed with diabetes, sister has been having seizures and diagnosed with epilepsy(waiting brain scans now) brother had to have a [STRIKE]boil on his bum[/STRIKE] abcess operated on...
then just after new year my lovely granddad died, it was his funeral yesterday. he was a very special man x :(

just picked up my phone messages from yesterday while i was at the funeral and there was a call from the catering manager (remember my complaint about the school meals?) can i phone back urgently as they want me to go to another school for a month to run the kitchen. It's now weekend so cant return the call and they wanted me to start on monday. I'm panicking on two counts now.
    1) I've missed a brilliant opportunity because monday will be too late to sort it out
2)if it's not too late and i do get to go, i have no experience of running a kitchen, in mine i wash pots, serve on the till and make sandwiches.
He's obviously hoping to test me out to see if i can do it. all i can think is 'oh !!!!!!!!)

Lisa, phone first thing Monday and explain you didn't pick up the message as you'd been at a funeral. Start phoning from 8am. Nothing ventured, nothing gained.

I think you're sensitive to the current feeling of pessimism that's around atm, and it's brought back feelings you maybe buried years ago.

Hi OMO, things have settled down for me as well at the moment, and I find it hard to relax and enjoy it, especially when there is so much news about the effects of the recession. I feel like I'm out of step with the majority of people. Sometimes I get a vague feeling of anxiety in the back of my mind, and I start wondering that if I do chill out and take it easy on myself, I won't be prepared for when the SHTF again. bearcub and other contributors have given good advice, I agree with the advice to avoid the negative threads and news items, and concentrate on the upbeat ones. You could have a chat with your current GP and at the same time start the process of moving to the other surgery.

unixgirl, i will. i only spoke to him middle of last week to request a days leave for the funeral. not hopeful that the numpties in charge could host a p!ssup in a brewery. lol.
i would really love the opportunity and the extra money would take the pressure off for a bit (would be a higher rate of pay +more hours+travel expenses). but i'm really scared that i will mess it up/make a fool of myself. if it happens, and it goes well, then it could lead to taking nvq3 qualification and permanently having a kitchen of my own to run. with DH's job still not safe it would be a glimmer of light and might finally get the year off to the new start we hoped it would be!

LIsa ((hugs)) you sound as though you are having an awful time, it always seems worse as Christmas too,

arias tail - I am not sure what you do exactly but it sounds as though its some sort of support worker? And that you are south Mannchesterish, in my local paper they were advertising support worker posts for a new expansion into Cheshire - if you would like me to get the ad from the recycling let me know and I will get it for you.
  • Good on you KATE, stand firm and do it!!!!!!! and I hope she enjoys 'Fish Week' as much as you do!!! Cheers Lyn xxx.

You're not going to make a fool of yourself. From your posts you sound well prepared for most thing and quite methodical. Go for it, and if there's anything we can help with.... even if its just a bit of moral support we're here.

I agree...Just make a list of the order stuff needs to be done in, and tackle it like eating an elephant - one bite at a time.

    awww thanks.
    lists, i love lists!
i dont normally worry or get flustered, its just not knowing how its going to pan out.will it happen wont it? what will happen if it does? will i get support or just thrown in to see how well i do/dont do?
there's nothing i can do until monday, so no point in getting worked up (which is what i normally tell myself, but its not working quite so well this time, lol).
i now have littlest dd curled up on my knee in a blanket saying she's poorly. she looks a bit washed out, but we've had a busy couple of days so hoping a good nights sleep will cure all. if she's not sick in the next 5 mins will carry her back up to bed with a bucket just in case! (cruel mummy, but we dont do poorly very well!) sure she will be fine and just wants extra cuddles.
then i might make myself some tea, my tummy is starting to rumble ;)

lisa - I just wanted to say you have also inspired me to challenge my DD6 school over their dinners, she comes out of school so hungry and feeling sick with hunger, she says she eats it all, and is usually a good eater. Then at Christmas I was in during the Christmas dinner lunch and was really stunned at how small the portions are - I pay £2.10 per day and if I am honest a McD meal would be better.

Had to take painkillers for my back which has really gone, so am now in pain, shaky and all loopy to boot. :)
