Suddenly becoming anxious can be a sign of a thyroid problem. If you don't find you doctor helpful register at another surgery, and get an appointment.

ROFLMAO I'd not thought of fish fingers!!! Hahahahahahhaha!

    Kate

Must say fishfinger butties with tommy sauce was my first thought - followed by scampi bites (expensive brand but still the cheapy version if I've remembered anything you've said previously correctly!)

Maybe she'll go all out and do tuna pasta bake with a packet mix - or will that be get someone else to do it if she has any staff left?

ETA: slap hand - bad stiltwalker! :D

7WW - Need your help! I haven't jogged since wednesday. On Thursday my left knee plain damn hurt, by Friday, even at rest it was like toothache. Slightly better yesterday, but still a mild limp and I'd read online not to jog if you limped walking. Though for me, thanks to that leg in general I sometimes limp! There's no swelling and I can't take painkillers, so haven't.

Now, I'm not asking for medical advice here (that's awkward even for medical professionals, since this is the leg with the tumour in the calf), but a from the perspective of a trainer, does what I plan sound right? I'm going to do a week of brisk walking and see how it is, then go back to week one of the plan and see how it is, maybe do that for an extra week, then kick it up to week 2 and see how it is. If it hurts at any of the steps I plan to head to a podiatrist and get a custom orthotic for that foot (my thought is that the tumour in the calf is twisting my foot).

So upset at the setback, because I don't want to be a wuss. It was all going so well. :(

    Answering GQ's question...

Brochures from the two main supermarkets if you are curious. Not a lot of food, plenty of junk. Own brand not often advertised, you have to trawl the aisle to shop more cheaply. Prices here may be different to those offered to Softstuff.

We used to have a Supa IGA (Independent Grocers Association) which was cheaper than either of these two on the whole, now closed.

I tend to do most of my shopping at two smaller places: Spudshed for fruit and vege, and Farmer Jacks who have quite good specials but their day to day prices are of the 7-day, extended hours variety.

We only recently got Sunday trading, whereupon the prices rose instantly. I can live without it.

Hope these links work, they may fall in a heap when the new catalogues come out. I'm happy to answer questions/price your shopping list if you want to pm me.

Very interesting Prudence...to see products we don't have, some that are similar. The prices seem more expensive but of course in the local economy they could work out the same as here, converting one countries currency to another may not always be accurate.

    Thanks for the links...

Hi Hun, What you suggest sounds spot on. The training (not medical) advice is that if something continues to hurt (not just ache) for a long time after you've finished a session then give yourself a break. So yes, I reckon take a break, but keep doing something else (brisk walking, swimming, cycling ?!?) then after the break go back to one week before where you were up to and see how you get on.

My experience of podiatrists has been excellent, the only suggestion is try and find one attached to a sports clinic rather than to a sports shop.

Take care - your overall health is more important than 5k - but give it a rest and see how you get on.

And now I'm off to take my group out in what they have promised will be heavy snow!

More later, have a good day all.

Thanks for that Sgt 7WW! I didn't want to be wussing out, but I have a pretty high pain threshold and this is pain, not ache. I didn't walk today, but we'll go for one tomorrow night. I still very annoyed that I've managed to hurt it, but I'm still determined to get there long term.

Er, snow eh? Best of luck with that, but rather you than me!

Prudence, I think for some things you'll be cheaper, but heck, we notice the difference if we get as far as Brisbane and if we go to the Gold Coast we fill the car with groceries before coming back, they're so much cheaper. The only independent grocers around here are sort of high end expensive organicky places. And don't get me started on how dear the local farmers markets are with their nonsense.

Pops, the prices probably balance out somewhat according to other local economics, but they still feel darned expensive. To give you an idea on my perspective, I have now $125 a week housekeeping. That covers medication (which accounts at present for an average of $25 a week, thanks to some of the prices coming down), cleaning supplies, household disposables, toiletries, food, entertainment, gifts and clothing. Though I now make everything from mayo to pancake syrup from scratch, it isn't easy.

I need your help re: driving in winter conditions. I'm really scared to drive in frost let alone ice and snow. I wont have the option to not drive in those conditions what with having to get the girls to school so my question is: could you please share with me your winter driving tips.

Also, very excited I get to make myself a winter car emergency box :D
Fuddle – more driving suggestions for snow and ice (I’ve lived in a hilly, high-up area so have had some practice)…

Think about where you are going to stop at your destination. If possible park facing downhill in the direction you want to set off. You won’t get stuck then. And choose a location where you then have as few roads as possible to cross with your children.

Some cars have four wheel drive, don’t follow someone else into a risky situation assuming that if they can do it you can too.

Do everything gently (braking, steering). Use a higher gear than you would normally.

Brake (gently) well in advance of junctions to avoid sliding out into oncoming traffic.

Consider putting something in the boot (cardboard, old carpet) so if you do get stuck you can use it as traction. I think it has to be something you can leave behind, as I don’t see how you can stop and pick it up again if you’re on your own in the car with children. I’ve not had to do this yet.

If you think the risk is too high then just don’t take them to school. Check weather reports for the afternoon - if you do manage to get them in to school you are then also committing yourself to picking them up again later in the day.

It will get easier for you as you get to know your car and the best route.

Thank you for all the driving tips. My little boot will be crammed full of what if stuff. Get a grip fuds, you'll only be driving just over 2 miles away :rotfl:

Snow set to come in tonight, all night and tomorrow. The girls are going to have to leave the house at 7.30 to get there in snow for 8.50. DH said he used to do that kind of journey when he was a kid and it was the norm years ago. I guess it was, I just feel so bad for putting my two through it. Well if nothing else, until the wheels arrive, they will develop the plod on attitude and determination. :)

Sunday roast for us today, easy though as I intend to throw every thing in the halogen ;) were also off to get some basics for the cupboards because of the snow. Well, best go dig the Welles and wells socks out. Have a lovely Sunday everyone :)
