meanmarie: Welcome sister! I know what you mean about sweets. We had 4 tins of R-s-s, 1 tin of Q--l-ty Str--t and 2 tins of C-l-br-t--ns + numerous boxes of chocs. I managed to get rid of most of them, NO I didn't eat them, I filled mugs with a lot to give to my homeless friends on Christmas Day, I recycled some as presents for other people (sh!) and gave a load of boxes of chocs to my DS's family. He was delighted and I tried very hard not to catch my DIL's eye.
HOWEVER....there is still one tin untouched. It is still sealed with sticky tape and while I've had a little scratch at the end of the tape so far it is still intact. Perhaps on one of my eating days? If I could find someone to give it to I would. Perhaps I'll take it to Open Arms on Sunday night and invite them to help themselves. They don't tend to go for sweet things but perhaps I could persuade them. I've hidden it from the Rev or it wouldn't stand a snowball's chance in hell of staying untouched.

Mr T had big pots of double cream for 25p tonight :j so butter making for me tomorrow.

Was in work (at the cafe) on my own today, it's a long hard day all alone, and there was no-one upstairs in the office either, so I had to grab the phone too. Daft. I tried three times to have lunch before I managed to grab two minutes to eat it.

I've just watched last episode 'Victoria's children' on TV. What a miserable old bag she was!!! She'd nine kids and not a good word to say about any of them. I can kind of see where my grandmother got some of her ideas about parenting from :p

I've managed to be really good today, and I've kept to my GF diet really strictly, and even just by tonight, I do feel a bit less bloated, and less tired, despite being on my feet all day, I must try and keep it up! I've also been watching the Hairy Dieters again tonight, and I might get the book. Book People have it cheap (£4.99) but I'm holding out for a free delivery LOL! I thought the wraps they made looked nice (although I'm not a fan of tuna) and it just so happens GF wraps are on my to try and make list, their curry and sweet and sour chicken looked nice too. Has anyone got the book...is it a worth while buy? Or will I find all the recipes online?

Fuddle - i would get checked out at the doctors, its probably not arthritis probably just your body saying you've taken it to far.
I would definitely try the park run, don;t be out off by the named. When i first started i had crutches and just walked as far i could. Gradually i built to 1km and then 2.5km. the idea is ou do as much as able to and then stop. No pressure to push yourself further than your ready. Some people just jog or walk it.

7ww - what can i say i calculate my pi lol
GQ - i was always up and about even when i had the cast, i used to walk everywhere. Especially the hills i loved it, the views from great ayton are gorgeous.

I need to seriously lose weight, i'm 5"2 and a 1/2 and so the pounds need to drop. Last time i weighed myself back in October i was 9 and 1/2 stone, but i know i've put weight on since i haven't been able to walk. I'm supposed to weigh between 7 and 8 stone, so stick thin.
So today said to my OH i'm going back on the soup diet and he promptly told me off and said no. Your need a full range and carrot / lentil soup is not good enough.

Instead i'm cutting back on wheat, as i'm not supposed to eat them anyway. Oh and also chocolate. crisps, in other words junk.

Went to A&E today, i couldn't take the pain anymore, had x-rays done and bloods taken so fractures and infection have been rules out. The doctor was really and said they was nothing he could do and gave us lots of advice. He was really nice and very apologetic about not being to do anything for me.Poor bloke, he kept making sure i was all right and held my hand while he checked my knees. He explained everthing to my OH as i was in too much agony and showed him hows to perform a slight massage to ease pain. Just hope the rest of day went well, as by 1pm a&e was packed. They gave me more tramadol and anti-sickness but came back and spewed all over. Luckily my OH was carrying me back and forth so i could have a shower and get some pjs on.

Good news though DS2 officially has been discharged from childrens outpaitients. :j:jHe officially doesn't have asthma, instead he has allergic rhinitis. So although he has to have medication all year round at least now i won't have the school doing my head in. So chuffed :D

    Evening,
Not a very productive day but an odd day like that does no harm.

Window cleaners..Around £4.25 here but every 3 weeks but TBH I could survive having them done every 6 -8 weeks as they don't get that dirty. And I'd save money. Heck, I am tempted to say wash the front windows and leave those that are at the back so they are are only done occasionally. To save money!

getting a visit form the Housing Association next Wednesday to discuss how I'll be affected by the changes to welfare(council tax, rent, bedroom tax etc...)Not looking forward to it and fear the worse but may get a surprise(I hope)but suspect I will be worse off as will many.

But until they call who knows.

Have to contact my Dr tomorrow as he still has yet to compile the medical reports he said he would to help me when I sent those forms into the DWP/ATOS.

I hope his input helps and does not have the oppoiste effect.

Fuddle mentioned being a kind of carer for the elderly, such a scheme exists around here but it is unpaid and voluntary so a great idea and rewarding but not good if it is a way to raise income.

I'm kind of on a 5/2 diet or even the alternative idea. I get the right amount of calories(am never hungry)but it's smaller portions and sometimes spread throughout the day.

Reasonably good food(but I tend to stick to similar meals)salads, stews, fish, fruit and occasionally something like a kind of fry up but always done with olive oil or sometimes no oil at all as some food items excrete moisture or their own kind of fat.

But I don't use the main stove that much these days...its mainly the microwave or slow cooker if I want to cook anything.

I can make my own bubble and squeak but I purchased Aunt Bessies the other week on offer and it is more than enough for someone living alone already mixed and plenty to leave in the freezer and go back to.

I don't suppose I could do it any cheaper if I made it myself.

I do lots of fresh/frozen veg combinations and stretch any meat used over many days.

Think I will have up my eating of cereal and porridge again(with added fruit)

Not really sure if I can reduce my weight still further, I don't look heavy or feel sluggish. But I would prefer to be a little lighter.

I have rubbish to clear but it's no longer cluttering the house and rooms are tidy. I'll find space to store all my cutlery, dishes, plates, mugs and dishes.

Even if I use the dining room where my food store is. It is a room already filled with the tumble drier and fridge/freezer anyhow.

I did not get to my music night last night but hpe that I will again next week and I have a night out I booked last year so though not free it feels as though it is, next Monday, a Viennese New Year Concert. And I may make the effort to dress accordingly :rotfl:

It's been many a year since I remember attending a classical music concert, if I ever have...it will be a change.

    Don't you love banks?

I changed(as you may remember I changed my home contents insurance)I informed my bank and they stopped any Direct Debit that might have been taken out of my account as that was how I usually paid each year.

I phoned the old insurance company(well it was actually another arm of the bank)so quickly to cancel and they promised they would do so. And the credit card statement has arrived and they've taken £100 off me so I'll have to sort that out tomorrow.

    Kezlou,
We posted at the same time...you deserve a hug...its a pity that we are all so far from each other.

I hope you feel a little better now...I'm small too and weigh more than I should but nothing like I was when I first needed my medication and took ill(Steroids)amongst other things...

    Just weighed myself, I'm approx 9st 10lbs(61kg 688.56g)for height of approx 5' 4" That's pleased me a little...

According to this site I seem to be more or less the weight I should be...

Good news about your son...any news like that is welcome...

Our windows are £5 and they come round every 4 weeks but as we are up a private lane with only a few houses so litle traffic I really didn't think they needed doing that often so I told our window cleaning boy (seriously he looks 12!!) that he could come every other time or I'd be cancelling altogether so he only does ours every 8 weeks now! TBH he's not the best window cleaner in the world but better than me or DH having to get up a ladder every so often as neither of us are much cop on ladders and we'd need to buy a bigger one than we've got to reach the fist floor windows anyway.
  • Evening all,

Hugs to everyone who needs them. Kezlou - does your local NHS have a pain clinic? If so, could you get a referral to them: there is one near us and it is supposed to be excellent (apologies if you've already tried something similar).

Softstuff: keep at it - 7ww is watching you, and will know if you skip a jogging session;)

I'm having mixed emotions at the moment. We are taking my mum home tomorrow. Most of me will be glad to have the house back to ourselves, but then I feel guilty for thinking like that, and also I know mum thrives much better on company, and so I feel rotten for her. I'm sure she'll be fine as she's got quite a few craft days and stuff coming up, but even so.

Not much else to report, once we're back from down south the serious frugalizing/using up left-overs can begin. Should be fun, especially as last-time I looked the Christmas box still contained unopened Christmas cake, Christmas pud and chocolate panatone:p

    Sleep well everyone.

    Hi SW,
I may try that idea...I think he won't mind as he does quite a few others on the town(my area)and is increasing his rounds and taking on others...so its not as if he is making the journey to only me.

Had I been well, I might have not minded being a window cleaner these days as he has all the gear and uses those poles with a sponge/brush on the end so they don't use ladders any more.

Our old window cleaner was not very good either TBH at least this one arrives with a great big tank on his van and so every house has fresh clean water. If you were not around the previous guy used the same bucket and same clothes etc...and he was no cheaper.

    Hi SWW,
What you are feeling is perfectly normal. Even if you are really close to someone. I would have Mum back tomorrow...

I don't really watch film anymore and heck it wasn't even real but I watched that cartoon a few days ago "Up!" and cried! My Uncle said he was too. We're all soft and yet if we lose our sensitive side we are less of a person. Tell you a song that always gets to me and tugs at my heartstrings and I lose it nearly every time...

The good thing about making your own gluten free/wheat free is that you can control what goes into things and know exactly what is in there. I can't eat the free from ranges as many have soya in and I react to it badly.

My ddil has to check for soya too as she has had nasty reactions to it in the past but the wheat thing is a newly discovered thing, although she may well have had it for years as she has always had a delicate digestive system and the doctors blamed it on IBS.

I get all my carbs from veggies and some fruit and the odd sweet potato. The problem is that most people do diets all or nothing and then fall off the band wagon quickly. High protein, good oils and fruit and veg suits me really well and I feel very healthy on it. We had very few left overs from Christmas and the New year but I put them in the freezer so I would not be tempted to carry on eating the goodies. I took the ones that could not be frozen to the new year party to share with everyone. The fresh veggies and smoked salmon dip were literally demolished in minutes...

My ddil does like Mediterranean style foods but she likes things like chicken pies sometimes so getting the pastry right will be good. Also she likes cakes and biscuits in moderation so I am going to try making fig rolls which she adores while she experiments with some other recipes I printed off for her.

The ones who mentioned they eat very little and can't lose weight....that is exactly it....you are not eating enough and not eating regularly enough to lose weight. You need to increase how much you eat and have little and often to keep your blood sugar levels up and to stop your body holding onto body fat because it doesn't know when you will eat again.

Ddil was one of those that ate very little and ds explained to her that the body has a cut off point where it will hang on to the weight if you don't eat enough over a period of time. She also used to eat too little with long periods without food in between. Your stomach does seem to get used to being without food.

Good luck to all those on healthy eating plans..its not easy but it is worth it. You should also see your health improve so that is a real added bonus.

Went food shopping today and got lots of offers on fresh fruit, veg and meat. We might need to be very careful with money for few months as the Greek government have added 5 new taxes to the January bills and electricity is going up 45 percent. They are also talking about a new tax on firewood because everyone is burning it since they can't afford the expensive heating oil this year. There is no end to the austerity punishment being inflicted on us and this year any income is taxed from the first euro....with no tax allowances at all.

They are going to run out of things to tax before long. You had all better get used to not breathing because they will try and tax that :)

Fuddle:- Our windows are cleaned every two weeks for £3, so yours sounds about right.

My cousin lives in Richmond in London and her local window cleaner charges £25 per house. She says that's ok, he has to charge that to make a living! (She about had to pick me off the floor!)

2Tonsils:- Yes that sounds like what we are doing, most of our carbs come from our vegetables now.
Katieowl:- The bikers book is great, I have tried the lasagne using leeks instead of pasta sheets and it was easy and tasty! I found that on-line before I got the book. (pressie) I am planning to try out the wraps too.
Kezlou:-Sounds like you had a bit of a day! :( Pleased your son is ok.:)
Popperwell:- As we have got older we have got 'softer' too, we fill up when watching the babies on One b*rn every Minute! Daft things get to us now!:rotfl:
Give us the strength to encounter that which is to come, that we may be brave in peril, constant in tribulation, temparate in wrath, and in all changes of fortune, and down to the gates of death, loyal and loving to one another.”
