The good thing about making your own gluten free/wheat free is that you can control what goes into things and know exactly what is in there. I can't eat the free from ranges as many have soya in and I react to it badly.

I get all my carbs from veggies and some fruit and the odd sweet potato. The problem is that most people do diets all or nothing and then fall off the band wagon quickly. High protein, good oils and fruit and veg suits me really well and I feel very healthy on it. We had very few left overs from Christmas and the New year but I put them in the freezer so I would not be tempted to carry on eating the goodies. I took the ones that could not be frozen to the new year party to share with everyone. The fresh veggies and smoked salmon dip were literally demolished in minutes...

The ones who mentioned they eat very little and can't lose weight....that is exactly it....you are not eating enough and not eating regularly enough to lose weight. You need to increase how much you eat and have little and often to keep your blood sugar levels up and to stop your body holding onto body fat because it doesn't know when you will eat again.

Good luck to all those on healthy eating plans..its not easy but it is worth it. You should also see your health improve so that is a real added bonus.

Went food shopping today and got lots of offers on fresh fruit, veg and meat. We might need to be very careful with money for few months as the Greek government have added 5 new taxes to the January bills and electricity is going up 45 percent. They are also talking about a new tax on firewood because everyone is burning it since they can't afford the expensive heating oil this year. There is no end to the austerity punishment being inflicted on us and this year any income is taxed from the first euro....with no tax allowances at all.

meanmarie: We are obviously twins - same height, same weight. You are obviously better at the exercise than I am. Never stand when you can sit, never sit when you can lie was just written for me. The low carb does work for me, after a fashion, but I find it too hard to stick too for long enough to do any real good. I've put the 2:5 fasting diet on my Kindle and it appeals to me. I can cope with 2 days of very little when I don't have to think too hard about the other 5 days. We'll compare notes now and then.

I weigh way way too much so count me in on the weight loss journey - although it's a journey I've needed to go on my whole life.
Have curry bubbling away in the slow cooker, chicken breast and no naughties in so that's healthy I guess. Will be having it with naan bread though as that's what needs using up, so less healthy.
Got back home this evening and found a huge box outside - my Lakeland heated airer that I spent my xmas money on. While I'm not happy that a huge expensive item was left very obviously outside my door I'm excited to start using it. Now off to clear up my house a bit.

Monnagran do you have a link for the 5/2 way if eating. I would like to read about it. Is it the idea that you eat calories of no more than 600 for 2 days and then healthily and normal cals for the rest if the week. I heard so much about, how it's a brilliant weight loss regime but I haven't spoken to anyone who has done it.

Knees: thanks toughies for telling me that it doesn't have to be the spiral of older age and less mobility, and that it might not be that at all. I will mention it when I can register at docs.

Carbonara: thanks so much, really easy!

Older persons helper: you know I would love a job of that kind. I love helping people and talking to the older generation. I'm too shy to get myself out there and because a cared has to be involved with bodily actions and red tape I do t think I could do that kind of job... A job of being a friendly helper sounds lovely though.

Window cleaner: window cleaner knocked at door tonight offering window cleaned once a month for £6 whole house. I wasn keen in the £6 but but booked him because I like the monthly idea.

All my family have a cold. Little one temp is 40 if she was any you get she would be going to AandE but as she's 4 and a had I'll keep an eye on her myself. She had calpol and is sat with cold milk I front of the open patio door: anything else I should do to keep her temperature down?

Going to try to access nhs symptom checker. Anyone else's a&e struggling under extreme pressure? North east A&E's have been buckling under unprecedented demand According to news.

I've tried the 5:2 thing, it was amazingly easy to do and I felt great, however it's not for me at the moment (DDs were taking to much interest in it and I don't want them to get any ideas that skipping meals is good for them at their ages)

Fuddle - I wouldn't keep her by an open door, a tepid bath would be more suitable, so easy to go from overly warm to cold in a breeze. Or try a cool flannel on her head and some ice pops or iced drink to soothe her? Hope she's on the mend soon.

Had a lovely AF order in today, £72.91 saved on RRP. Got some lovely big tins of butter beans and kidney beans along with everything else and used one tin to make a big vat of butter bean and chorizo stew. 2 large portions have gone in the freezer for future meals....fab!

Kittens have spent all afternoon playing with the boxes from the delivery, they've been jumping in and out, hiding from each other, tearing them to shreds...they just love them.

Oh dear! A bit funny over poorly high temp children. Eldest had a convulsion when she was at the childminders when I was at work. She ended up being blue lit to hospital as she hit her head when she went down, with me somehow how driving through town to get to hospital. The doctor told me all that she needed at the childminders was some infant paracetamol (which the paramedic gave) and a bit fresh air. I took that far too literally and have placed my daughter in front of the door, at night, in winter. She's in 38's now so it's coming down, probably calpol.

Seriously? I honk I would struggle keeping to 600 cals

Fuddle - hope DD is better soon.

Well the car is going to be 'spensive (boo hiss) it's the gear box and the clutch is on way out - but the rest of the car is fine so we are getting it done and my lovely parents are subbing us the extra that we can't really afford. DH's mum is also lending us her car for next week while it is out of action so at least I can get the kids to nursery and take DS to his big therapy assessment on Wednesday.

On a more positive note I have taken the plunge and opened a folksy shop today to (hopefully) sell some of my new felted jewellery so spent much of this evening uploading the first few items and am now about to set about making some more brooches. No idea if I'll sell anything but at least I feel like I'm doing something and since I have 'discovered' felt in a big way since Christmas (well actually done some years ago so that probably should be rediscovered) at least I'm making an attempt to stop th house being cluttered up with too much felt!!!

Also detemined to get my friend's daughter to do a craft fair or 2 with me this year as she is really talented with felt and I feel it would be a huge boost for her to sell some work.

Your phone is coming up with some classics fuddle! I'll miss it when you get your broadband sorted!

I read somewhere that people who have become diabetic can potentially reverse it by going on a [healthy] 600 cal a day diet. I may need to do something so radical in the future, but I'll try the little by little approach and try to up the exercise a bit first.

I've made the critical error of starting to watch Celeb BB :o Not sure if I have the stomach for it this year though - depends who's on I suppose.

Feeling a bit carp today - hormones again :( And this weather... good grief. Rain Rain Rain. I'm so fed up of it I've put my heating on full blast AND have the log fire going as well.

Fuddle: I got mine through Am-z-n. It was only £1something for the Kindle version. Yes, you could live on 500 or 600 calories if it was only for a day. Heavy on the fruit and veg and an egg or piece of chicken, small bowl of cereals or porridge. I did it today and if I can do it Billy Bunter can do it. Go on honking, sweetie. I'm going to miss your unique spelling when you get your broadband back on.

Always wanted a sister Monnagran so its nice to have a twin! have been very bold to-day sweet wise and still have 2 tins of sweets to finish...they might go bad if I leave them around!!

going swimming to-morrow with DD4, so will feel really virtuous after that.

Back to my knitting I think...never blankets again....did 12 6ft square ones in 2012, will be a long time before I do another! Small things from now on.

Cold here to-day, not much rain, so feels a bit more normal. Spent 2 hours sitting with Sister in law these afternoon, she is always full of woe and she seems to think that I solve all her problems....I wish.

    Stay well all
