Happy new year everyone!
Did anyone else think the London fireworks were a shocking waste of money? The two sentences 'bread and circuses' and 'Fiddling while Rome burns' kept coming to me. So many people struggling, and they spent (allegedly) £200,000 on 11 minutes of bling. I would have thought the figure was higher than that myself... Also from one of
my FB chums, I saw a linky yesterday that made my blood boil
"Greedy 'fat cat' Eric Pickles department & the Conservatives have gorged themselves through £42,225 on 'biscuits & snacks' in just seven months.
The Department for Communities and Local Government office spent £42,225 of British peoples’ money on 'biscuits & snacks'"
My first thought was to reach for the calculator, which tells me that figure amounts to £200 a day...my second was that some one should send them Twinks Hob-nobs recipe PDQ!
Anyone made any new years resolutions?

Afternoon Everybody,
I feel so different today. Ready to embrace the world! Calm and peaceful. Perhaps it had something to do with it being the early hours and everything so still.
Had a nice sleep and even managed some corned beef/tomato buns earlier.
Kate quite a lot of people are questioning the spend on the fireworks. In the great scheme of things it is probably is not much but when everyone is cutting back or being told to it does seem un-necessary expense. That does seem a very low figure.
The display in Australia cost $4Million.
And as for your other point. I am sure they could afford their own snacks...even if they had to buy those little packets of biscuits that are sold in cafes where they have a few and even guests could afford that.
Cheap shot but Pickles could do with being put on rations..."A government afraid of its citizens is a Democracy. Citizens afraid of government is tyranny!" ~Thomas Jefferson

That makes a lot of sense...they are responses we have to go through and all part of the coping/healing process I guess even though at the time you can't see it."A government afraid of its citizens is a Democracy. Citizens afraid of government is tyranny!" ~Thomas Jefferson

Pops, when I have a panic attack I hit my wrists together 1) for distraction and 2) as an act of difiance ie bashing it away. If that doesn't work I give myself a ruddy good talking too mentally. I second the AD's as a tool to use to break the anxious/panicking cycle. I can't remember that last time I had a panic attack now and they were once sometimes as frequent as bi weekly.
You need a distraction as you say, your suggestion about using wrists, people have done something similar by digging their nails into the palm of their hands..."A government afraid of its citizens is a Democracy. Citizens afraid of government is tyranny!" ~Thomas Jefferson

OK strange place to put them but upstairs is clear of clutter except the three bin bags are sitting in...the bath but the bedrooms and landing are clear so I can walk around. The outhouse is clear too so making some headway...that would have to be done anyhow."A government afraid of its citizens is a Democracy. Citizens afraid of government is tyranny!" ~Thomas Jefferson

I love New Year, don't like xmas. Lovely icy windy bright morning and am off to look at the BBC to see how things went in Edinburgh last night. Somebody had fireworks last night in the village and it set a load of geese panicking so then we had them flying round in circles honking like mad
I don't think this year is going to be an easy one with benefit/money changes and am going to tighten everything down just a wee bit more to be ready for it.
Me to think the benefit sort out will cause terrible disruption to many people , its usually months after a new benefit or cuts in certain ways that its felt, people already struggling will be seriously hit, im very worried myself...........
I know cuts have to be made, but there doesnt seem a fair way of doing it....My hubby being totally chair ridden feels the cold terribly at 53 years old, and I do have to have the heating on all the time, where my 2 OAP s neighbours are 67 are very fit and well and only use their heating a couple hours per day , get the winter fuel allowance, where the disabled dont get the payment ........
I know we get DLA but when hubby go into respite care once a month we have to pay a percentage of the DLA to cover his contribution payment, so the DLA comes in one hand and goes out in the other.....
Yet I suppose they cant give the winter fuel money to the disabled because a lot of disabled people are not bed or chair ridden .......................
We dont claim housing benefits or council tax, but that is a big worry for a lot of claimants this year when they bring the cuts in in April, must be a worry that some folks wont be able to afford their rents..........
Weve had a super sunny day today, and thanks god I was up at 7 and outside by 8,(no drink for me last night) , it was cold but after being stuck indoors over xmas I was glad to get out, yesterday me and grandson and dogs had a lovely long walk in the woods, we really enjoyed it rugged up nice and warm, so did the dog....:D..........Saw a few deer about, which is nice to see, we come home lit the fire and I fell asleep, Lewis said I was snoring very loudly, arhh good ole bit of fresh air, does you good............Sheila

A bit adventurous today...thinking of having something cheap and cheerful for my evening meal. I thought that I may dice a potato and an onion, cube what remains of some corned beef. Possibly add a fried egg.
Its a change to sandwiches...and follow with a small dessert of some kind."A government afraid of its citizens is a Democracy. Citizens afraid of government is tyranny!" ~Thomas Jefferson

We've had a super, positive, wonderful start to the new year and I'm so over the moon. As most of you know my kids both have a rare genetic disorder that affects their mobility a lot and means that the usual milestones are way harder for them and they get there much later that they would otherwise. DS has just climbed onto the couch and then pulled himself to standing on the back of the couch!!!! Yay!!! DD showed him how to do it then encouraged him the whole time he was doing it and then gave him a kiss and stoked his hair when he managed it. I could have cried with pride at both of them - going to need 2 sets of eyes in the back of my head now though.0
