kezlou, i really think the injections would help my DH, he suffers so badly with the pain
monnogran, lol. we don't really do list either. it just really amused me after saying the other day that she didn't believe, she seems to be setting a test to see if he really is real. i think if i can get just a couple of things on her brand new list then i might be able to keep the magic alive a bit longer. the things we do eh?! ( she can think again if she's expecting the barbie and ken dream house though, she's pushing her luck with that one)freecycler and skip diver extraordinnaire:cool:0 -
 I've spent most of today christmas shopping in our local 'town' OH can't believe that I could have possibly spent a whole day looking for stuff... *eyeroll* Must be nice to have someone else take all the stress of shopping off you.
Anyway. I hit Ald! early on, but had reason to go back later with DD. OMG the place had been ransacked!!! They had literally NO fruit or veg left...good job I'd already bought my onions!
DD's BF's are both sorted...although it's not a 'perfect' gift for either, I had to wait till DD had finished work and kidnap her to help a bit. One has a batman t-shirt, and lounge pants from one of our 'seconds' shops, the new batman DVD and a tin 'robin'
The other has touch screen gloves, socks, a scarf and a crate of beer.
I had other stuff to get too, a bit of food, so two supermarkets...and hit all the charity shops to complete the other DD's recycled/vintage gift. Managed to get a set of 6 green wineglasses for a fiver, which was exactly what I was looking for.
I've also got some of our local cheeses for the Xmas cheese board, I'm only hosting pudding (Xmas pud and Tiramisu) and the cheese board, so I wanted to make a bit of an effort, I've also got two fab local goats cheese.
I think I'm going to have to go shopping on Monday, as my plans for Xmas eve with the kids were a bit thwarted when DD told me her BF wouldn't eat what I was planning on giving them. Traditionally we've eaten smoked salmon, gravad lax, prawns and stuff like that on Xmas eve, with a bit of salad and some nice home made bread...don't know how it started but we've done it for years. I know the BF's are a bit wary of 'scary' food... my older DD's BF has improved no end after living with us for a bit, but the middle DD's BF is still very conservative in what he eats...I'd thought to trade in all the raw stuff for a fishy paella...as I've lots of nice stuff in the freezer, but apparently even cooked prawns, squid and mussels are off the menu!!! I wonder if I could just add a bit of chicken or chorizo and he can pick the fish out??? Even shopping very carefully has bust the budget, and it would be great to have pulled it all out of the freezer. I've a stash of smoked salmon in the freezer too, and I was going to serve that as a starter
Tomorrow I need to be cooking all day for the market on Sunday..if you see me on here, send me back to the kitchen. I'll be blooming glad when all this is over...we've not a market again until mid Jan, so if they don't want me in the cafe, I can have a breather!

lisakay, the injections probably will help your DH.
The GP who administered them told me not to expect miracles.
Apparently the injections help reduce the swelling which in turn reduces the pain. She said for some people it completely removes all pain and swelling. The procedure is very painful and is called a blind insertion. She said they put the needle straight into joint of the knee and find the right spot. When this is found they inject the steroid straight in. Apprently you can feel the needle scraping against the bone. So if he can handle it, i would tell him to go for it.
Just been for more diet links and guess what nothing new.
Some good things are oily fish, apparently the fish oil loosens up the joints. Another thing is almond oil rubbed into the skin.
One of the main things as well as the fish oil is calcium to help strengthen the bones.
Not sure if thats any use for you pops and lisa.
Katie would a nightmare i would have just served the salmon and done the paella. Just do a big pan and chicken like you say, along with some nice home made bread and salad.0 -
I have managed to get it upto 20 various conditions that I suffer with but the arthritis and mobility trouble is the worst of all. Even though more serious things are going on internally. I suspect like you I can "Manage" if I have to stay indoors(but that can get depressing)but try and get out into society that is difficult.
Especially under my own scheme. And with taxi's and bus service that is too expensive but not fit for purpose, you are kind of forced to be a prisoner in your home.
I even got gout a few weeks ago connected to Arthritis and possible diet and the medication I have to take. Ideally they wanted me to take anti inflamitory painkillers but they can damage my kidneys. Gout really hurts.
I have taken up various suppliments I hope may help including Clugosomine, garlic and a multivitamin/mineral tablet. Try to eat lots of vegetables too. And watch my weight.
I just hope that this latest phase improves and is temporary. Conditions do vary as we know...bedtimes can be fun trying to get comfortable.

Osteoarthritis is an auto immune disease, so body wide. If you can manage as in reduce the triggers for inflammation, and induce anti inflammatory response it will help.
The up shot is science and medicine don't know enough at present to magic bullet this.
Omega 6 fats are bonus anti inflammatory stuff, as are Vit D, E and curcumin but these are no good if you are still triggering a pro inflammatory response. It's a case of research and work out you own pro and anti inflammatory triggers. Every ones body is a different balance so it's is unique balance you are tryin to achieve what works for one might need tweaking for another etc.

Thank you for that post missrlr.
I am taking Ginko Bilboa for my eyes(and eat green veg too)and if when I can get some I think I'll ginger which may act a bit like curcumin.
You can but try anything to try and help improve matters. My Mum believed in Cod Liver Oil."A government afraid of its citizens is a Democracy. Citizens afraid of government is tyranny!" ~Thomas Jefferson

I have had to be on anti inflammatory medication for years, I can't move at all without it. Pleased to say I have had no problems with it at all, but the difference it made to my pain was incredible.0 -
Yes, that's what my steroids are for. Perhaps things will improve when we see the weather improve. I have probably tried to do too much lately so if I do less, then when I need to do something it will be easier.

I heard for some that not eating tomatoes helps with OA, but it never had the blindest bit of difference for mum. She does have injections in a few joints. They can be hit and miss, sometimes they work better than others, sometimes the effects last longer than others, so I'd say if an injection didn't work too well to start with, don't give up as it may work better the next time.
I'm determined that I'm not going to fall apart more healthwise. There's some things I can do nothing about at all, but I think I can pull myself together in a few areas. With that in mind, no laughing now please, we went out today and hubby got me 2 sports bras and a pair of running shoes. I'm going to try a couch to 5km plan in the new year (I will give it my damndest effort, but a lot depends on how my tumour goes with it). He has also ordered himself a new bike, so with the help of the friendly chap at the local bike store, we're going to alter his to a training one for me and I will, for the first time ever, try to ride a bike. My screams may be audible over in England....Softstuff- Officially better than 0070
