It's not really seasonal, but we had a Japanese pork and pumpkin stir fry for tea and I just wondered if anyone wants that recipe? (It's seasonal for us because we got a free butternut squash from the mother in laws garden!)
yes please.CC2 = £8687.86 ([STRIKE]£10000[/STRIKE] )CC1 = £0 ([STRIKE]£9983[/STRIKE] ); Reusing shopping bags savings =£5.80 vs spent £1.05.Wine is like opera. You can enjoy it even if you don't understand it and too much can give you a headache the next day J0 -
Good morning all
Thank you for the happy birthdays for yesterday. As Mr VP has got a job we decided to splash out and went out to a chinese eat all you like buffet with both DD's. Did not have a very relaxing day, DD2 had an outpatient appointment, I had a physio appointment and the hairdresser came as well. Did watch mama mia whilst ironing. That film always makes me smile.
Fuddle loved war and paracetamol :rotfl:l, can see that one taking off in the office.
Nuttyp what a wonderful selfless act :A
Unixgirl have got my fingers crossed for you. Hope you hear something soon
sevenup01 I understand why you are waiting to see your daughter settled until you complain but I would be livid if that was my daughter, both girls were lucky to have somewhere else to go to.I am playing all of the right notes just not necessarily in the right order.

Okies, here it be:
Japanese style pumpkin and pork stir fry
Take half a small pumpkin (doesn't matter what kind really, just makes for a different dish) or butternut squash, remove the seeds and slice it into pieces about 1cm thick, like little crescents. Leave the skin on if it's a jap pumpkin or butternut squash as this is tasty too. Pop this in a microwavable container with a few drops of water and a lid, microwave it until just tender if you poke it with a fork (anything from 4 -7 minutes, depending on the pumpkin, start with less time and work up, you don't want it mushy).
Meanwhile in a pan, take a good handful of pork mince and mix it with a teaspoon of cornflour, a couple of teaspoons of rice wine (sake or chinese cooking wine is fine) and a couple of teaspoons of soy sauce. Fry the pork until cooked through.
In a bowl put 1 tbsp rice wine, 1 teaspoon sugar, 2 teaspoons soy and 2 teaspoons oyster sauce.
when the pork is done add the drained pumpkin into the pan, mix it in well and add the sauce mixture. Continue mixing for a moment or two until the liquid is almost gone.
Serve with rice, this freezes well and is also remarkably good cold.
Hope someone else enjoys this too, we've been eating it a while and really like it especially since it takes as long to cook as rice does, so it's a quick meal.Softstuff- Officially better than 0070 -
Aaaargh so frustrating, I ordered a used copy of Game of Thrones DVD for peanuts, and it has just arrived but I don't have time to watch it, LOL!
Fingers crossed for you Unix.
Putting together all my hampers this morning and gathering all the presents together as we are going to my parents' house tomorrow. Can't help that nagging feeling I've forgotten something!0 -
Mrs VP, sorry that I missed saying Happy Birthday.
I hope you are able to enjoy more treats like Mama Mia today and spread pleasures over a few days. I haven't been to an all you can eat buffet in ages -Durham has a few good ones.
Edit... I am a case, I came on to find Unix's news and then forgot to say "good luck".
Hoping to share more good news later, but still happy over the food processor. Thanks for sharing my pleasure.
I'm quite OS with most of my kitchen stuff. My much -used Nutbrown grater with a slicer slot on the side is 50 this year. I know because it's got an MOD arrow on the side; it came out of Army quarters and is dated. I've had it since 1977. I shall still use that - son lives with me, so the processor will be his toy.
Things to do...!Erma Bombeck, American writer: "If I had my life to live over again... I would have burned the pink candle, sculptured like a rose, that melted in storage." Don't keep things 'for best' - that day never comes. Use them and enjoy them now.0 -
That'll teach me to read too quickly - I was wondering why your hairdresser came to the physio appointment Mrs VP!! Belated birthday wishes and glad you had a good day.
Unix - everthing crossed here too although it's going to make packing difficult! LOL - Really hoping you get an early Christmas pressie.
Fuddle - War and paracetamol - fantastic, iti'll join lion as one o this years best (DD misheard lie in so now an extra half hour in bed in our house is accompanied by a loud Raaaa). As for the LL - you get him, sneaky grasping wotsit that he quite clearly is!
7 up - how dreadful hope your DD is ok and manages to sort her out.
Hugs to anyone I've missed - ok must go and pack now, up to my parents for the weekend to do Christmas with them a little early as we're at home for Christmas this year with DH's parents coming for the day. Then off to DD's first nativity this afternoon - got a coupele of those handbag packs of tissues in my bg ready but wondering if I might just be better off taking the whole box!
Have a good day all - X0 -
Afternoon toughies, have managed to read on the hoof but not comment.
Unix am thinking of you, I cant stand waiting either,
7up - am horrified for your poor DD
Have taken DD6 to have her initial assessment for her tooth today as she needs sedating, they have looked at it and as she is in so much pain have squeezed her in for this afternoon, so we will be off to hospital this afternoon. Am so pleased that she wont be suffering any more and that we dont have time to fret but it means I lose a lot of prep time so I will need to make it up somewhere.
Am also nervous, I dont do anaesthetic very well, and am worried she may have the same difficulties but time will tell. They are bringing a specialist in from Alder Hey for her due to my history and he will bring his team along too.
Hugs to everyone on this busy busy day (and thank goodness the Mayans were wrong after all this work,)0 -
Hi everyone, kidcat hope all goes well with the dentist. I had 2 teeth out with introvenous sedation back in june. I woke up and actually felt fine. At the age of 40, i am the biggest scardy cat ever. I had 2 isdom teeth out and they then had to clean the cavity to remove an abcess and then sew me up!! Glad i didnt know anyhting about it. Make sure you have some calpol ready, i had to have it aas swallowing after can be a bit difficult, also straws for drinking and lots of symapthy.
I did another good deed yesterday, wait for it...... on the way into work we have a little toy shop run by a lovely family. I noticed a young amn outside with a large empty bag, he was waiting for someone inside. It was one of the regualr shoplifters you see in boots being removed. I went in and made a bit of noise and a nice lady popped out and spoke. The lad left and then i told her he was probably after some free items. She checked on the cctv and he had placed some items behind a big display. I hope they are keeping an eye out as they are such nice people, happy to help with anything.
That was my good deed, not as good as previous days one tho. I wonder if he has got his foot looked at??
Tomorrow its hamper day fot the dog rescue centre, along with the blankets borrowed from the plane when we went on holiday. Im sure they will appreciate a fluffy bed!! I have some cheap dog food as well, and a few treats. They all deserve some nice treats at christmas. OH will be accompanying me so i dont bring a doggy home - its not possible for us at the moment to be able to give one a permanent home sadly.
Well must go and check the oven, have made sausage platt from left over pastry found in the freezer!!
Have a nice day everyone xBSC member 137

One of the dog rescue charities locally are advertising for Christmas foster families for their dogs! You keep them for a few days.0

Hope it goes well Kidcat, will be interested to see what happens. IV sedation would be no good for DD either as it's the needle which freaks her out. She isn't in pain though.0
