Morning Toughies, just had a real treat in the garden, we left the seed heads on the lemon balm (free range in the flower beds and very prolific!) and have just had a flock of goldfinches doing the rounds, magic!!! I have invested in lots of fat balls and they are being regularly visited by lots of different birds, I am also putting out warm water a few times throughout the day and that is very popular too.
FUDDLE - I remembered what my mum used on her face in the winter and it is Ponds Cold Cream, I am pretty sure you can still get hold of it too and it doesn't cost too much. She used it morning and night and had pretty good skin all her life, also the best hand cream we've ever found (even He who knows uses it when we're gardening) is Atrixo, it seems to help heal splits and rough patches equally well.
Have just made a very large vat of vegetable soup to use up 'the bottom of the fridge veg' and delved deep into the unknown at the bottom of the freezer and came out, lucky dip style with a nice steak pie so that will be supper this evening. It's tricksy out there with the ice, a friend of ours came off his cycle yesterday and has detached the ligament attaching his collar bone to his shoulder and He who knows has just cycled off!!!!! to visit and see if he needs anything, so take care when you are out and about all of you and be safe, and stay warm, Cheers Lyn xxx.0 -
The outside tap was frozen, it had an icicle hanging from it. I can't find the tap glove or whatever it's called, so I have wrapped it in lots of bubble wrap and hope that works. Brrr it's cold out there.0

Thank you for the memory jogger, I need to remind DH to check the outside tap is turned off and also tenant. We always used to turn it off inside then drain in down and wrap it up so if we did have to turn it on it would work and not freeze as the water came through (had that happen not nice!)
I can second the oil on face and hands and feet before bed - I have used everything from Sanctu@ry facial oil ( B00ts) to baby oil, to olive oil from the kitchen cupboard! You only need a FEW drops of any oil. I also use this before I go out for a walk, seems to stop the chill a bit.
One of the other tricks I use is to wear a motor cycling neck muff pulled up over my chin and cheeks or a balaclava - very effective but you can give some people a shock especially with a hat pulled down over your ears too!
Stay safe all out there, was -5oC when I left home and -2 when I got to work. Not that much warmer nowStart info Dec11

unixgirluk wrote: »Sorry to hear that Fuddle. You think as an adult you'll never feel intimidated again in your life (once you grow up). I know I've been there so I know how you feel having experienced it many times in my adult life and most recently in the job I'm in currently. The current situation left me frightened during but angry after and thats not me. OH gave me some advice when talking to this person to look them right in the eye and keep looking whilst talking and/or listening. Keep your facial expression neutral or smile if you have to but only using your mouth keep your eyes fixed. The woman here that's been doing it to me has backed off, when I first did it she seemed to get a little flustered. The second she couldn't even look me in the face. Now it seems she is annoying someone else. I hope this works for you.
That advice is really helpful thank you. I usually look people in the eyes anyway so they know I am paying attention or that they are but keeping the emotion out of them in such bad situations is a good idea.0 -
Thanks Grandma I have a terrible habit if I'm out shopping etc I can't look someone in the face. Years of not doing it to avoid eye contact I think so for me this must have seemed strange when I did this to the woman intimidating me.CC2 = £8687.86 ([STRIKE]£10000[/STRIKE] )CC1 = £0 ([STRIKE]£9983[/STRIKE] ); Reusing shopping bags savings =£5.80 vs spent £1.05.Wine is like opera. Thank you - I also appreciate that advice as my sister has a nasty habit of making scathing remarks about me/to me when we are in company ie in front of other people and I never know how to react. Perhaps it is time I did. Thank you xDecember GC: £3500

I have a sister like this too. You have my sympathy. Thank you Unixgirluk for the advise, I will try it, though I don't know how successful I will be as she makes me feel both guilty & insecure even when I haven't done anythingPlease be patient with any mis-spellings and typos I am officially useless with a touchscreen keyboard!!! :mad:0 -

Another vote of confidence here. Mum used it all of her life and her skin remained lovely. And yes I am biased but Mum looked years younger than her age. And the few who did find out/knew Mum's age(Mum said I should never tell:rotfl:)were surprised.
