  • Sending good vibes and warm wishes your way, Mar ...
Feeling and looking quite cosy chez cake, as today I got something I have wanted for a while: a very beautiful stove top kettle! As we have a gas stove, and the woodburner lit every evening, I thought it would be MS to get an old fashioned kettle, so I did a bit of research and managed to get a gorgeous Simplex copper one on Fleabay, at a very good price. They are still made, and cost £149 new!!!! I am chuffed to bits with it, and it looks even better than I had hoped on the woodburner. It also has a delightful whistle .... I think I am in love. Oh, and it makes a fine cuppa, too.
Keep warm all you lovely OS peeps, and welcome home to those who were MIA, lovely to see you again. xxx

    FUDDLE.

I am on my fifth face and sixteenth set of lips this winter, my skin is just awful with the cold. Hands too and feet are not so good as in multiple pairs of socks.

Masses of lip balm, foot cream, hand cream and a heavier facial moisturiser have helped, but really I think I need a full body dip in oil.
Roll on the summer. I think I have 'peeled' more in this cold weather than any sunburn I've ever had.

Massive vibes to all who need them, won't go into sad details but not having too good a time of things myself, so much sympathy with all who are having a rough time of things at the moment.

    Peace and goodwill to all.
  • It's taken me a while to catch up tonight :) lovely to see so many back posting x
finding it hard to find the time to anything at the moment.
if you'd have asked me in july i would've said i was nearly ready for christmas, now we're up close i've realised i'm not so nearly ready as i thought!!

kidcat, we moved over to the cashless fingerprint system a couple of years ago, parents can add money to kids accounts via paypal and it means kids cant have their dinner money stolen/spend it on cigs before school. apparently the kids fingerprints aren't 'stored' , the system just recognises it and as soon as they leave school the accounts are deleted, and they are absolutely not shared with anyone. if the police were to come and request hard copies of prints it cannot be done. no one has opted out of the system.

mar, positive thoughts being sent down the cables x

fuddle, hope the move goes smoothly x

HH :rotfl: i'm still getting used to my touchscreen phone and have sent all sorts of wrong things to people eg. to one friend...your boyfriend told me you were busy *deviating, have fun lol (*decorating).

have spent the evening at the colleges panto, the kids were all fantastic and the girls loved it. dd2 got the biggest laugh of the night as she led the boos and was still at it, very loudly, long after everyone else, and could be heard backstage. she also asked the head teacher if she could sing at the end. she loves an audience.
didn't get the girlies in bed until after 9.30. very late for a school night, but a one off for a special treat. no doubt they will be grumpy in the morning!
best get myself off to bed now, night all x

Pops, not saying it is loud but could it be that your hearing is a little off and so its not loud to you but is to others?
Could you maybe use a pair of headphones, rather than have to do without

I thought of that;)and may go down that route but my hearing has been tested and is very good. I'll probably give in as that's the kind of person I am. I even protect my hearing at concerts with earplugs...

But you make a fair point mama...thanks everyone else too. I may switch to another room. Fancy starting now after 3-4 years and especially with the noise that they make and we never said/say a word. When the dog starts it can go on for ages...

    Isn't it always the way.

Anyhow, a great night...went to the memorial carol service. Bit emotional. But managed to get back to the live music night which McCulloch told me about and had approx 2 hours of fun, next week is a Christmas Party night! So a happy end to the night.

Sending all my thoughts and good wishes to all who need help through these difficult times...

I'm so pleased it lifted you - I noticed you were warmly welcomed, which was lovely.

Apparently one of the newspapers is touting a £127 Christmas dinner. Who in the name of Blue Bu88ery spends that amount on one persons meal? We are feeding seven of us and including drink it won't come to £50. And the left-overs will do us for a few days. The sheer waste of money when so many are relying on foodbanks just makes me very angry.

thanks lisa - the high schools use the system and I understand the cashless idea and why it is better for teenagers who may well spend the money on sweets, however I fail to see the benefits for primary.
I have now spoken to school and requested an opt out which is a requirement, they have said a further letter will go out after Christmas allowing parents to opt out and instead of finger prints a swipe card will be used.

It still seems obsurd to have all this in place of what used to be a very simple system.

Hoping everyone is feeling a little better this morning, its well below freezing here and thick fog too. :)
  • morning all. I had a very unsettled night due to eldest daughters hamster making a racket most of the night and then escaping from its cage! I woke up to a rusling sound and thought the cat was trying to see the hamster and it was hamster running around my bookcase! Luckily i was able to catch the bleeping thing and deposit it back in the cage but the cage is missing a clip holding top to base. hopefully i can get a replacement clip in petsathome today cos i really dont fancy that again.
On the plus side i had the pleasure of listening to my youngest belting out the 12 days of christmas whilst in the bathroom:rotfl:.

The secondary school that my girls attend also uses this cashless system now - they have been using it in the library for some years and in September, the catering went the same way. However, from what the girls have told me, and the letters from the school have said the same - they only use one thumb. The school has not had to take a full set of fingerprints, only the one, and like Lisakay has said, they are completely secure in the system. The kids just have to remember to use the correct thumb, and the librarian advised them to use the one on the hand they write with to make it easy to remember!

One particularly good point in all of this is that the Free school meals recipients use exactly the same system and no one can be identified from having to use tickets or anything, which makes it less embarrassing for the child, if they are embarrassed.
