Mar, when I lay in bed this eve and mull over my day I will think of your son and the tough times he's facing. I hope you're able to cope with the uncertainty as well.
What did our elders do with their face skin in the terrible winters? Did they just put up with it? My face is a mess. I guess it's walking in the icy winds and central heating. I just don't know what to do with it.
The thing about being horribly short sighted is that the glasses go some way to hide the wrinkles round the eyes
I've resolved to take up running (jogging/walking!) in the new year. Free exercise and gets me fit. I've hit 13 stone nowI need to work on a new meal plan for the new year. a one that consists of healthy, low cost and low calorie meals.
'tis good to be back. Would you believe it's possible to be addicted to the Internet? The first two days of not logging on I was so bored and quite lost. still determined not to log on religiously and try to fill the voids in my life but nice to be back with like minded people again.
Thirsk, never been but not a kick in the backside off when I reside elsewhere.... Ergh at being broken downing the A19. It's bad enough being in it when you're moving!0 -
Hi all
Just popping in to offer a giggle. I text my beloved asking if he wanted collecting at 9:45, his reply was 'Naked 9:30' as it's minus icy degrees here, I'm assuming he meant to type 'Make it 9:30', he'll be bitterly disappointed if it wasn't a typo.

Well I've dragged my pressure cooker back out from semi retirement (don't use it so much in the summer) and I had forgotton how quickly and beautifully it cooked stewing steak. So DH had his favourite for tea tonight with HM dumplings as well. He was in heaven:). Managed a traybake of Lemon drizzle cake as well, so now he's nicely stocked up for his lunch box.
Our usual Potato supplier said the price is going to go up again after Xmas. I
was already shocked that the price had gone up about £3 a sack from last year! The price of food is shocking! I'm just grateful my DM taught me how to cook when I was a little girl many moons ago. Bless her, she's no longer with us, but she taught me well. Every Sunday morning I would spend time in the kitchen with her, she let me make whatever I liked and never moaned at my many disasters. There would always be a cake and maybe something savoury for Sunday tea. I don't have any daughters but I always encouraged our sons to cook and now they are grown men and can cook up as good a dinner as I can.
Just existing from day to day is such a challenge for so many people in these difficult times and the added pressure of Christmas such a worry, what with presents and extra food etc. Perhaps the only good thing to come out of it all, is that some of the over the top commercialism will be wasted, because people will simply not be able to afford it. For me and I expect many others, Christmas simply wouldn't be the same if I didn't get to spend some time with my DSs and GDS -some who now live a fair distance away. They won't mind us not having a great big Turkey on Christmas Day or a cupboard full of expensive drinks. I don't think that they'll mind that we can no longer afford to give such big presents as we used to give (at least I hope they won't:o) -no they definately won't:), but I'm sure they'll know we do our best. It's the quality time that we'll all spend together that will mean so much.
Just need to get my act together re: some of the cooking now. PS. DH and me just had a mini dispute about whether a bar of chocolate had been shared out evenly -I was sure he had more than me and made him count the squares again:):)
PPS Mar, sending you loads and loads of vibes, it's no joke when life gives you a hard time. Please stay strong.Sealed Pot Challenge 7 Member 022 :staradmin:staradmin:staradmin

Mardatha good vibes being sent your way. I hope everything can be resolved quickly and simply.
Maccanut i am glad to hear you will be getting a wet room put in soon. It sounds like it will make a huge difference to both you and your husband.
I had a lovely evening with my Rainbow group playing games - musical chairs using sheets of newspaper as the chairs. Is very funny watching 3 girls all trying to stand on the same piece of paper:rotfl:. Several of the girls gave each of us leaders a card each which was lovely but even nicer was the 2 boxes of chocolate we each received, one of them a large double layer box! I shall be nice and share them with my children.
Tomorow i am going to go and finish christmas shopping with a friend and inspect her babies 2 new teeth. Then its off to my local yarn shop to pay for a quilting class i am doing in january. Its not really very mse to do the class since i have read up and understand the technique we will be using but its fun to do it as a group and be just me for the day instead of mummy. I am also very lucky that i have most of the fabric i need, just need to choose a co-ordinating half yard for the border.0 -
GQ - Have had a revellation this weekend, I have also been sleeping badly and my lovely DD got me a pair of Bedsocks!!! She also made me a hot water bottle and as a result of the extra snuggliness these engendered I slept for 8 hours solidly, which as been repeated for the next four nights, so I am convinced it works. Worth a try in this cold weather? Cheers Lyn xxx.0

Mar.
Sending positive vibes in your family's direction0 -
Fuddle mentioned face skin - I know exactly what you mean, what with the central heating and then the cold outside I have got so much dry skin at the moment. I keep smothering my face in cream, it helps a bit, but not much.
My skin is much better when I'm in a hot climate. Let's hope we get a summer next year!Early retired - 18th December 2014

Oh dear - what does it say about me when a recipe says "fool-proof" and I've just had to chuck it in the bin!!
I left my florentines to cool thinking they looked ok but when it came to take them off the greaseproof paper there was no shifting them. I tried everything, but the only way they would move is by disintigrating and sticking all over my fingers. The worst bit was that the ingredients weren;t exactly cheap. Oh well, it looks like it will be Christmas spiced fairy cakes for Thursday:o.
And whilst I was waiting for the florentines to cool I phoned an elderly cousin who'd had a cardiology appointment this afternoon. She has been diagnosed with heart failure and may have to have a pacemaker fitted ahd she is not taking it very well. Not the best news.
So all in all, I think the best thing I can do is have that early night and join in the positive vibes that so many folk need.0 -
((((hugs)) to peeps.
mar - lots of positive vibes coming your way:)
lynn and fuddle great to see you posting again.
lynn - messiah sounds wonderful.
We've broken down on the A19, it was awful, traffic jams on there are even worse, i swear a snail goes faster.
Oh and ready meals, its better than eating takeaways cheese and biscuits for weeks.
jem - could be an idea to go back to the doctor and see if you can change your medication.
kittie - sorry to bother you, but could i have your recipe minestrone soup?
OH took me out for a couple of hours today and i loved it. It was strange being pushed about but it was good just being out. Ended up spending £25 in primark on clothes for me and ds1, then we went for lunch.Really we shouldn't have spent money but we needed a break from everything. Even OH enjoyed it, well he said he :rotfl:, he was also being very lovey dovey in the end:o:o. Personally i think he liked being in control.
Didn't do any xmas shopping, so going to do some this week and next week.0 -
Mardatha, sending your family all the love and best wishes I've got.
GQ, I hope you get your tigger bounce back soon.
Fuddle, it's funny you mention winter skin, I've just been lamenting summer skin here! I either get nasty painful spots or eczema. Roll on winter for me! In any case, I find Avene tolerance extreme moisturiser good for your current winter face. Very soothing and takes out the redness. Available at boots.
Went to another Christmas do last night, the charity shop Christmas dinner, and it was very nice. Simple, pretty cheap, lovely company and much fun. I really love all the people there, they're so nice.
Cutting grandfather in laws hair today, you might be able to hear the screams from there.
Jem, it might be that some of the side effects of the medication pass in time, as your brain gets used to it. I hope so for you.
Speaking of medication, must go stick a needle in myself....Softstuff- Officially better than 0070
