Hi all. The panic about Christmas has had me immobilised. I've been like a rabbit caught in headlights, complete panic, not knowing where to start so not starting at all. Today I gave myself a good talking to and have cleared a couple of rooms and at least organised my card writing table even though no cards have yet been written. Feel much better for getting underway.

Hester: not like you to pass up the chance. Of course he didn't 'make it.' You disappoint me.

Mar: You can have vibes, candles, prayers or burnt sacrifices. Whatever I can offer up to help. Just remember - everything passes, even this.

Pops: I invested in an MP3 player and some comfy earpieces. The nice big ones that fit right over your ears attached to a sort of Alice Band. The Rev and I both did this when we went away on holiday - we don't share the same taste in music! It is absolutely great listening and no-one else can hear a thing, not even in the same room. If you can manage it , it is well worth the expense.

Fuddle: When you've installed the toilet rolls, set up the kettle, milk, tea, coffee and biscuits, the next thing to do is to GET THE BEDS MADE UP! It is wonderful when you simply cannot do another thing to climb into a proper bed. I didn't do it once and ended up sleeping in a duvet sandwich on the floor. Not recommended. Good Luck.

Mar just lit my little candle for you and yours. Hope things improve soon and you all have a peaceful Christmas.

I am resorting to eating marzipan out of the packet as we have nothing sweetie related in the house. Mum picked up a binder of toy knitting patterns at the cs today so am looking forward to getting those after Dd goes to visit Friday.

pooky your pics on the blog of you fireplace look so beautiful, even with the mischevious cats.

hester Im sure in this weather your hubby was just glad of the lift, anything else would be a bonus :rotfl:

Good vibes being sent your way Mar. I do hope they all work.
SDG thanks for the recipe, I made a lovely xmas biscotti last year but I happen to have a jar of mincemeat (29p ones!) leftover so that recipe will be perfect. I think I will make them tomorrow, get it out of the way. Had a present-wrapping session today, and realised I had nothing for one of my nephews so that was lucky I wrapped now rather than in 10 days time. Had a rather unpleasant drive to the out of hours doctor in the next town tonight in the freezing fog, as DS has an awful cough and had a lot of difficulty breathing (he has asthma). Nothing else wrong with him, so just have to keep an eye on him and make sure his inhaler is nearby.
Hope everyone is OK. Lovely to see more people back. I have read but TBH my eyes are drooping and I think I just have to go to bed.

Its just like old times I go out for a few hours and come back to pages worth of reading.

Mar - sending everything I have

    Mrs LW - welcome home

Fuddle - moving alone is stressful and gets to even the best of people. I do hope all goes well for the move.

Ginny - hope your pain has eased now.

Kezlou - so good that you got out and enjoyed it, I put up with much from my OH and often people think I am mad, but I have to say my being in a wheelchair pushed about by him would guarantee me a divorce!! :)

Pops - am not sure who said that it may be your hearing slightly off, but I agree its worth checking, I would also check the position of the radio as well. For instance in our kitchen if we stand near the extractor fan then anyone in our bedroom can hear every word louder than if we are stood in the kitchen - its due to the pipe going up through the ceiling.

Alternatively you could buy a set of wireless headphones and then you can listen in peace anywhere in the room.

I have had similar issues Possession and will often have a steaming bowl of hot water and menthol in the room, it seems to help my chest relax a little.

His room is too small and too crowded to safely leave a bowl of hot water but you've reminded me I'm sure I've got some Karvol somewhere so I'll put some on his pillow while he's asleep. Now am really off to bed!

    Madartha.....good vibes on their way.

Fuddle....nice to see you back, your posts are always worth reading.

    Lyn...have missed you and Docky.

Very cold here and as we are on side roads there will be skids in the morning, OH is due in hospital for his Warfarin check...hopefully the levels will be ok and we won't have to go back until 2013.

Frantically trying to finish blankets for 'children' one and a half to go, so may be missing quite a bit...

Oh dear - what does it say about me when a recipe says "fool-proof" and I've just had to chuck it in the bin!!
I left my florentines to cool thinking they looked ok but when it came to take them off the greaseproof paper there was no shifting them. I tried everything, but the only way they would move is by disintigrating and sticking all over my fingers. The worst bit was that the ingredients weren;t exactly cheap. Oh well, it looks like it will be Christmas spiced fairy cakes for Thursday:o.

You might want to try again with some decent baking parchment 7WW? It needs to be really lovely slippy slidey stuff, and if it was greaseproof from a supermarket it will be carp for baking. One of my first lessons when I started baking for the stall ;) I get a huge roll catering roll of it from Bookers, but any local cake decorating shops may have the 'really' good stuff which has silicone on - it's expensive, but not as expensive as binning all your tasty stuff, and you can re-use it a few times.

DD made me some florentines for Xmas last year with no flour in, I was well impressed, they were delicious!

7ww - I use reuseable silicone sheets and they are really good, they were not expensive, mine were from home bargains I think and about 1.99 per sheet, but I use them for everything like that and they have more than paid their way in saved greaseproof rolls.
