    Possible TMI warning!!!

Been to a communication workshop today about improving communication between parents and services and about how to better reach out to parents not yet accessing support and really enjoyed it, and felt useful. It made a wonderful change to be sat in a room of adults having meaningful discussions - don't get me wrong, I love my child orientated world but sometimes it is just good to be a grown up! Came back to nursery to pick kids up to be told that DS is a bit squitty and can't come to nursery on Weds (48 hr rule) promptly followed by DD up chucking 10 minutes after we got home so that's her off as well! My lovely parents are still ok coming tomorrow to have them both unless they get worse and will want either me or DH as they feel so grotty as DH and I are on the second part of our Makaton course tomorrow - better do our homework this evening as still not done it and we'll be in trouble!

    Ok you're safe now.

So all feelings of equilibrium created by a day out are now out of the window - oh well, worse things happen at sea I'm sure.

Our tesco was collecting as well this weekend (seems to have finished now though) and they were giving out leaflets with what to buy, no instructions on brands that I noticed, but was suprised to see that it didn't include pasta - I'd have thought that would be top of the list really - specially as it can be cooked in boiling water straight from the kettle with no hob required if necessary as long as you put a lid straight on to it. Also very fuel efficient if a family only has a limited amount available on a prepay meter.

Had nasty freezing rain last night and black ice this morning but it seems to have warmed up a little so hoping it's better tomorrow morning for my parents driving down.

Hugs to all who need one X

I couldn't say if it was the opinion of the organisers or of the users to be honest, but in either case it stopped me helping that local one. There was also an "adopt a family" campaign here, which I thought was a wonderful idea. You provided a family with all the aspects of a good Christmas. I thought we could do that, until I found out they didn't want any homemade foods or gifts....

Still, there are plenty of charities out there that do appreciate the same things we do and lots of opportunity to help.

Though on that subject I'm reminded of a lady I had a conversation with once. We'd been discussing how money was tight and I was extolling the virtues of the local charity shops. She was quite disgusted at the idea and said she'd never buy "used clothes or shoes". I guess money will still be tight for her, but for us things have improved and guess what, I still buy used clothes and shoes ;).
:) I like buying second hand clothes. It's usually a lot faster to shop the c.s. where you have all the brands and several seasons' worth of clothes together than to drag yourself around the high street getting more and more t'd off with the offerings.

;) And I enjoy taking the odd camping trip with the money I haven't spent on new clothes. And it's ecological as reduces waste AND it's virtuous as it raises money for good causes. What's not to like?

Hi everyone, I hope it's ok to join in here? I'm a long-term foster mum to four (hoping to adopt them): DD1 (aged14), DD2 (11), DS (10) and DD3 (5). My husband works long hours and I sell online to try to keep our heads above water. We've recently had a blow because little DD3 has been diagnosed with a serious condition, so there have been plenty of hospital trips back and forth recently. We're a happy bunch though :)
 Hello and welcome, hun. Good to have you posting.

(((Sunshine4))) really sorry to hear that your brother has passed away so suddenly. Please be kind to yourself at this difficult time and be sure to rest as much as possible.

Well, I've been a wee baker, have [STRIKE]made[/STRIKE] er assembled a fruit pie from some pears I stewed on Saturday and some Jus-Rol which I found at the back of the freezer on Sunday. Had a bit of pastry left over, too much to use to decorate the top of the pie, so remembered what Mum used to do.

Just bunged some sultanas into the pastry and folded the ends over and baked it on the sheet that the pie sat on and I've sampled one and it was very nice indeed.

Been busy in my salt mine and will be out again around a pal's tonight (3 social engagements in 2 days, so unlike me :p) so am rather cream-crackered and headachy but that's the way it goes. Shall sleep like a babe once I'm back home (have been up since 6 am).

Hope everyone has a pleasant evening, GQ xx

I do need a break from posting. I am rail roading the thread. I am being over sensitive.

What happened was that the latest post had a thanks, mine above didn't and then the one above that did. Normally not taking a blind bit of notice I thought that was a bit weird and thought to check back through my other posts. My half dozen posts of the day weren't thanked by a particular poster with every single other post by everyone else was. I took it very seriously. I got upset and yes I was extremely petulant.

I am leaving though. It's time I got on with my life and not so absorbed in OS internet company. I'm a strong person, really I am but being involved with internet forums is having an negative effect on me. I have cried, worried and argued more on here these past few months than I have in real life.

Long may the toughies continue, and I suspect it will with me not here rocking the boat. Bye everyone.

When my little sprouts were young I always had some lavender essential oil to hand a small dab on the underside of their pillow, one thing is a MUST, NEVER bring it out unless it's bed time, that way they associate the smell with bedtime only, worked a treat for me, we still have a bedtime routine now, bath and straight up to bed with a milk/cookie, seems to of stuck as they still want milk and biscuit and they are 15 and 11 lol!:o

    Thriftkitten,
Funny thing but with you mentioning of lavender...there was a programme on TV a while back with someone who does home made remedies and he said for getting to sleep a good idea is to make a kind of pillow or sachet to put inside a pillow of lavender and hops.

Avon sell something similar to what you suggest too.

You can buy these items online and a kind of bag a bit like those bags you put clothes in for a washing machine and make your own...

Fuddle love, if everyone who had ever said something (or more than they should have) online, decided to quit over it - well, it'd be a much quieter place.

Wish I had a pound for every time I'd made a tit of myself. Not saying you have, just that if you really feel that bad take a quick step back and then keep calm and carry on posting :)

The online world is very important to me, I was a system operator (a "sysop", anyone remember those?!) long ago in the early days of internet chat and online gaming. For many years, too.

One thing I learned is that in an online community is full of people who are all just as human, just as fragile and fallible at times as the next person. That, and use the delete key liberally when feeling a bit worked up! :D

Come on toughies, I know I don't post often but I needs ya.

Edit: I should add that I'm another serial abuser of the thanks button, and never mean to offend or even slightly ruffle anyone's feathers. I wish they'd remove it, to be honest.

Toughie update on me... overly hormonal as it's THAT time of life, feeling a bit crap because I've been fighting off numerous lurgies, and very tired because of my stupidly long commute to work - wish I could find a job nearer.

Have been reading and sympathising with all the rotton news, can't respond to all because time and energy are limited but I'm sorry for your loss Sunshine4, and glad Bruno is feeling a bit better Smiley.

Thank you all again for sharing and making me feel that I am not on my own in my relatively impoverished existence. If I just went by people at work I'd feel so deprived and miserable. Thanks to you guys I feel part of a strong and empowered group and can talk about penny pinching without feeling like a wierdo.

Hurts like hell and i know it's going to scar for a few months! Previous experience.... yes i am stupid enough to do it regularly!

Ouch! do you have any Sudocrem in the house? It's a very good burn cream.

I do but i always thought the best thing for burns was to cool and air dry, worth a try though x
