If it's a sin on MSE to care about the wellbeing of fellow posters, if it is not acceptable to give support and comfort to those who need it, if it is off thread to try to cheer someone who is unhappy by saying something kind then we are all guilty as charged. If all that is given is hard facts and answers to questions then it will become a sterile, arid and dead place where the humanity has been lost. All are welcome to post here, no matter how long or short a period of time they have been involved as posters on MSE, without exception. The views of every poster are valid and valued and are valuable contributions to the whole. Please can there be peace?0

I started a new thread about getting through the times but in a practical way.
One thing - regrettably I'm not sure it's so much "getting through" as "getting used to". As I read in my trade magazine last week, regarding the recession "welcome to the new normal":(I wanna be in the room where it happens0 -
I am guilty of not posting for simply ages, purely for personal reasons and nothing to do with the thread. I often pop on though, just to see how everyone is doing. When the recession started four years ago, I turned to the OS threads for support and encouragement. So many of us in the same 'boat' struggling to make ends come somewhere close to meeting.
The 'tougher' threads were fantastic, everyone sharing ideas and supporting each other. The opportunity given to us to share our experiences is a gift. What one person doesn't know/understand, another might. When someone is in need of some support or another opinion, or just someone to share a worry with, then usually someone pops on and helps. So I for one hope that this thread is able to get back on track and carry on doing as the 'title' suggests. These are really tough times and lots of people need support. Many would miss the opportunity to come here and share.
Apologies for just jumping in and posting after so long:oSealed Pot Challenge 7 Member 022 :staradmin:staradmin:staradmin

I know
we need to keep on sharing what we know about OS ways because more and more people are going to get to the point where they just can't get ends to meet.

VJs mum - can you tell us any more about what was in your trade paper? And yes, wait till April then things will suddenly jump down a level for many folk.
Re bickering and snits on forums, I stay out of it and ignore it. One of the great things about being batty is that yer memory goes and you forget who yer not talking to LOL0 -
It's good to know there are great things about being batty Mar!
I'm cold here at home and I've had the heating on all day - admittedly I haven't added extra layers yet but this is the first day I've had to think about it. Luckily the children are warm little morsels and haven't noticed. My thermostat is on about 17 which has been perfect so far and if it gets much colder I will turn it up a notch. Working from home I have to have it on, it gets too miserable sitting at a computer frozen.0 -
Cor , while 17 degrees may be suitable for you ,im dam cold under 20 degrees........I think its cos I have the heating on all the time for hubby so I have to get use to it at that temp, ive got my open fire a light tonight and its very cheery indeed on a winters night...I have not got the GCH on
Im sitting here on my own but somehow with the fire a light it makes the place seem alive...................
But when I go to bed my big window will be wide open and I shall be all snuggly under my duvet, breathing in a bit of frosty air........:eek:Love it......
Im off to bed soon , it feels so late yet its only 9 o clock, I hate winter, roll on Jan when the nights start to pull out a bit..........Sheila0 -
It's been mighty chilly here and I put the heating on earlier then had a panic as the timer had stopped on my control panel. The heating system is so old and we rarely use the central heating but I do like the water coming on once a day....I had a fiddle with it, I lovingly cleaned it with a damp cloth, spoke to it gently and asked nicely if it could just sort itself out by tomorrow as I'm having a bit of a bad week and low and behold its working again and keeping time!
I'm going to try it on DH next.....he'll enjoy the damp cloth bit now the waters warmed up"Start every day off with a smile and get it over with" - W. C. Field.0 -

Glad I'm not the only one with heating on all the time - I'm in all day everyday when I'm not out (if that's not complete gobboldygook! LOL) and with my 2 small people having mobiliy issues it's a must - We actually have it on 24 hours and a thermostat to cut in and out as neither of them will kep the overs on at night and just had a disasterous attempt at putting DS into a sleeping bag for the winter - poor little mite completely overheated (even though it was a muslin one that they are not supposed to overheat in) and screamed the place down - I'm sure the neighbours must have thought we were torturing him!
Off to the Kidz up North show tomorrow - I've printed off the exhibitor list and marked up the must see ones. My lovely Dad is meeting me there to help with the kids. Looking forward to it and not if that's not too odd - will be a good chance to really have a good suss out but also will have to confront on a grand scale all the special needs equipment that is starting to creep its way into our home. Also not looking forwards to the price tags on these things - I now there is funding out there but it is so hard to apply for, they want to know everything including your inside leg measurement! and then you have to wait months for the decision when the kids need it yesterday so we end up scraping the bottom of the barrel to pay for things ourselves or throw ourselves on the mercy of kind and generous family members.
Ok - enough of my chuntering, wishing everyone peace and harmony and sending hugs where needed. X0
