Thanks, SDG I'm fine after the fall, I just dropped to my knees.

Broth contents varies with whatever is on offer in the veg. line. I like to have a really flavoursome stock every time, though. I'm not going to give quantities as tastes vary.
Yesterday's stock base was Oxo cubes with half a bottle of smokey barbecue sauce that was going OOD, as I'd run out of Worcestershire, which normally zaps it up a bit.
As well as the bacon, I put in leeks (both green and white bits), onions (red and white) quartered, couple of chopped garlic cloves, swede in chunks, potatoes in chunks and sliced carrots along with c. 250g of broth mix. I don't add salt at all as the stock cubes and bacon add that, but shove in some pepper depending on how much heat I fancy in it.

Carbs make me sleepy so I no longer do dumplings, much as I love them.
Cut up the bacon into chunks, trimming off all the fat. It's much easier to do this with scissors.

I always forget to pre-soak the broth mix (barley, split peas, lentils) but covering it with water and giving it 25 mins on half power in the microwave works well. My pot takes ages to heat through on top of the stove (cast iron) so I make the stock up with boiling water and put that on a full heat to heat through as I'm prepping veg and bacon.

I let it come to a good boil with the lid on, then turn it right down to simmer away quietly. Boil it up again the following day.

Dam cold tonight , ive lit my open fire and ive just sat my bum down to enjoy it, it keeps this room at about 75 degrees with the door shut, so thats nice and comfy, plus I love to watch the dancing flames, if I hadnt got an open fire id have to paint some flames on the radiator..!!:D.....
We have had an early tea, cos its so dark early now it feels like about 7 clock and its only 4.50.................Had nice loin chops with gravy, cauliflower, cabbage, and taters, its was so warming , a decent bit of comfort food.......Good job I now can now wear my winter coat as it allows me to eat extra food...........

My mam has just left. I'm not going to talk about it on here but it has taken every little bit of patience I have to just brush off the way she smells, the amount she drinks, the negative opinions she has of everything and everyone.

No matter how much sadness or pain I have in my life I will never be like my mam.

I have to accept that my mam is the way she is. I have to spend time with her and be nice to her when I have lost every little bit of respect I have for her. I'm going to say this once and for all. I really don't like her. To say that eats me up inside. Surely you should love, respect and enjoy being with your mam no matter what.

Hi all, taken me a litlewhile to catch up so apologies for not mentioning any posts specifically! Welcome to any newbies though.

We had a wonderful day yesterday - thanks so much for all your good wishes. It did chuck it down on us but it didn't dampen any spirits. DH has set up a flicker account and I'll post you some piccies when we get them as we didn't take any ourselves. As expected DD stole the show as she walked in front of us in her walker as we entered the registry office - there were more than a few teary smiles to see our beautiful daughter doing so well. Both dresses were much admired and DH looked very handsome in his suit as did the little man (DS). DS slept through most of the ceremony and much of the evening do but DD relished every minutes and was still happily playing when it was time to go home at nearly 11.30. The restaurant did us proud and the meal was amazing and my pie and peas went down a storm in the evening. Was lovely to spend the day with friends and family but have to say we're all a bt zonked out now - early night methinks before going up to my parents tomorrow and then a mid week break at centre parcs.

We went to our favourite farm park today as a wind down for the kids- it's also their last weekend before they close for the winter, and bless them, they refused to take any money for lunch as their wedding present to us - what wonderful people.

Please post your photo of said cat hiding out in your xmas tree - really makes me chuckle xx

As requested.... nearly that time of year again. The sound of tinsel being chewed - I can hardly wait! Please can someone resize this if it's too big. I'm technically incompetent.

((((((((((((Fuddle)))))))))))))))))))) There's no rule that says we have to like our relatives, not even our parents.

You're not like her in the slightest and she clearly isn't the type of person you would choose to spend time with, if you had a choice.
Hold on to that thought, that you like yourself so much better than you like her.
We all like you so much better than we'd like her as well, I am totally sure.

Mine was an alcoholic who had an affair with her best friend's husband from before the time my sister was born. On my 14th birthday she told me she was being named in her best friend's divorce as "the other party", I thought she couldn't beat that but I was wrong. On my sister's 14th birthday she told her she wasn't sure who my sister's father was.

Let it go, you're not your mother and there is no "no matter what". Some people do things so wrong that it would be impossible for a person with morals to respect and love them. My mum left my dad for her boyfriend, married him and then died of a brain haemorrhage when he battered her one boxing day. I was 21, my sister was 18. We say we'd love to have 15 minutes with er now to ask her "what in the name of goodness did you think you were doing?".

You have your family. They're lovely. Concentrate on them.

Cranky, I'm scared of cats. I really am a wuss around them but the photo in the tree made me laugh. Good luck for this year!

I'm not too much of a nice person either I'm afraid. It's draining being nice when you don't want to. All I wanted to do is shout "Get out of my house woman!"

How do you clean your toilet? Bleach has gone up and I'm not really sure I want to hurt the fishies with the stuff either... when the SHTF we'll need 'em ;)
