I've just found 2 old pillows in the top of the girls wardrobe that will be turned into draught excluder snakes tonight.
which part of the country is that forcast for?? Often when we get predicted weather like that it gets dropped on the hills before it gets to us.

almost all, maybe not far far west. Freezing fog coming as well. Will all be nasty0
-
Not keen on the freezing fog as the 8th is when I have a late flight home for work. However, I'm due to go to Scotland the following week so was expecting to get stuck up there due to snow ... It has happened before :-)0
-
Thanks Kittie, am fairly well stocked up but will add in some extra milk and bananas!
Must root out my ice gripper shoe things too.0 -
I`ve decided to make almond milk every couple of days as that will slow down usage of uht skimmed milk stored in shed. Also have alfalfa soaking now as the sprouts will be good instead of salad stuff. I have stored roast spuds and parsnips in freezer, also bits and bobs for a festive lunch over christmas. Will buy turkey crown when I see one and that is that re hunkering down. Lots of tea and chocs already in and enough wine and blackberry gin. I have no idea what will happen in december but the nov freezing weather will not help the fresh veg situation at all
Re precautions: am getting garden fleece out of store and moving wood pellets up to house tomorrow also making sure that flasks, throws, candles etc will be easy to get at. Will make a big pot of standby winter soup on wednesday0 -

Over the road now there is a Waterstone's but I think that arrived after Dressers had closed/was not the reason for it's closure.
TBH Darlington's retail area has gone back over and is nothing special.
Oh shame about Dressers (and thank you for remembering the name :rotfl:), and the rest of them, Darlo used to be quite good for shopping, I guess everyone goes to Newcastle nowDo not meddle in the affairs of Dragons, for thou art crunchy and good with catsup

Hello everyone, especially new posters, good to see how busy this thread is.:TI'm getting some great ideas from you all, but cant read fast enough.
Hope everyone is keeping warm, we have had a few showers of nasty freezy hail-type rain this afternoon, so expecting v.chilly weekend. Please all keep warm especially if you are taking medication, you need good circulation for meds to have a chance of doing their job.
Last night hubby decided to bleed the radiators, and our bedroom radiator sprang a leak- dripped about 2 inches of water into a plastic box. Had to get up and put on my bedsocks in the early hours! We phoned B£as, we have a contract with them for servicing boiler. They said service was overdue (they had not told us), and next date we could get would be... 24 December 2pm :santa2:
I had visions of engineer not turning up, and problems developing over holiday :snow_laug so we made an emergency appontment for Monday, it will cost £50, in spite of contract, but at least we will be confident we have done all we can to be comfy over the winter.
Gave the birds a treat by cleaning out the bacon pan with oats and breadcumbs, and putting mix on the bird table, then had to chase the crows away ot the robin and bluetits could eat. Maade sure the bird bath has been cleaned and de-frosted too.
Enjoy a nice cosy weekend, stay safe with all the bonfires and fireworks. xxx0 -
Hello Dragon, good to see you again.
I wasn't going to mention PIP (don't get me started on this one...). I'm equally angry and not holding my breath that I will get it, given the descriptors which DWP have put out. I duly noted everything and have to try and not let it worry me too much. I have my slips, trips and falls log for supporting evidence. There was one to add this morning, luckily I was moving slowly. My stick slipped on the laminate flooring and I did a knee drop. This isn't the first time I've done this recently.
So, I've just ordered a new ferrule (rubber bit on the end) for my "best" stick, the ferrule's bright red and has proven to wear better than the ones from Wilko's. If I have to use a stick, it might as well be glam.
This stick is one of the patterned ones, (Switch sticks) it also has an ergonomic handle fitted. I'm now using one of my other sticks, and annoyingly the ergonomic handle doesn't fit it.
I am so lucky in that DS (big appetite) is happy with OS foods, I prepared a massive pot of bacon broth yesterday, he's made huge inroads into it, but there is still loads left. I worked out that as Her*n's bacon misshapes (£1.60 for 600g) are usually largish chunks of gammon it was better value to buy two of these rather than a ham hock. Tesco's cooking bacon wouldn't be suitable, it's too finely chopped when I've bought it.
I got a brown envelope from DWP informing me of increased tax credit payment going in this coming week after I reported a drop in income. Now I have exact figures, working out my budget is clearer.
Edit: Shropshirelass, I left BG when I had a new boiler fitted. I paid nearly £40 a month and the service was dire. They cancelled the service appointments so often that I never got what I paid for; a service booked in August was eventually done in February the following year. They didn't even bother to inform me that they were cancelling when they did it for the final time, just didn't show.Erma Bombeck, American writer: "If I had my life to live over again... I would have burned the pink candle, sculptured like a rose, that melted in storage." Don't keep things 'for best' - that day never comes. Use them and enjoy them now.0 -
I'm all set I think, apart from needing another box of candles.
Can I ask what is a turkey crown and why is it better than a turkey? I can't be bothered going overboard for just us two, all that fuss and oven mess and gas just for us isn't worth it.0 -
A turkey crown is the top of the turkey, its like the breast with a bone. No legs, wings or other underneath bits. It cooks quicker and you get way more white meat, but it costs more too. My mum just gets a crown as there is only two of them, they have dinner here on Christmas day, we go there on boxing day but she makes ready !!!! for us, pizza, etc. They wont eat it after boxing day either, any left goes in bin. So it makes sense for them.0
