A turkey crown in just the breast bit of the turkey, no wings and legs. Basically less faff, less wastage etc
Mar http://www.amazon.co.uk/Kitchen-Home-Made-Traditional-Stoneware/dp/B000YJD7P2/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1351956557&sr=8-1 pudding dish, free delivery £5.19 treat yourself and put savory/sweet steamed puds in the slow cooker for two hours. Easy peasy... and yummy!
I thank you Kittie for warning us of the bad weather. I always think it very kind of you, seeing as you pay for the information in the first place.
I think we're ok with our stocks apart from meat but that's not the end of the world0 -
Ok thanks both, might get one this year to try it
fuddle I keep seeing visions of syrup poured over steamed puds..0 -
Do it!
6 tbsp golden syrup (or moooooore)
100g butter
100g sugar
2 eggs
½ tsp vanilla essence (can leave this out)
100g self-raising flour
custard to serve
grease pudding dish
chuck in mixed ingredients
tin foil over top and tucked under pudding dish lip
a bit of hot water in the bottom of slow cooker, turn on to high.
lower pudding dish into SC
lid on
leave for 2 hours
...pudding! (and custard) yum0 -
I always stand a saucer on bottom of the SC and put pudding dish on top - no idea why, somebody probably told me too!0

Thanks for the warning Kittie, I did wonder if we'd get the back end of Sandys weather system.
Got a few dry days due according to a local forecaster so I shall finish getting my pallets chopped and move a stash of wood and coal into the conservatory. Stocked up with cat litter for the moggies and just need a few fesh bits early in the week to keep us going.
Got two loads of washing line dried this afternoon, makes a change and am all up to date with ironing and it's all put away!!!
Sorted out some suitable fabrics to make some door wreaths for gifts, got the florist wire rings at a boot fair for 20p each so a nice cheap gift.....got lots of dried fruit, cinnamon sticks, raffia, beads and buttons to wire on to. Just need to get started."Start every day off with a smile and get it over with" - W. C. Field.0 -
no that would make sense kidcat because I think the heat of my SC being right next to the pudding dish makes the syrup solidify. That might be why mine doesn't ooze. Thank you!0

arghh don`t tempt me with steamed syrup sponge, my mind is going overtime seeing syrup sponge covered in hot custard
another arghh m and s turkey crown is £35, I won`t be buying that one. Asda have a nice looking turkey breast joint for £5. That will do me, covered in good streaky bacon and with a nice stuffing on the side. I can`t be bothered with the oven faff either0 -
Afternoon everyone
DS1 and DS2 are upstairs and ignoring me as usual, DH has been to work this morning and is now at a friend's house trying to sort out their computer problems and I am waiting for Mr T to deliver.
I have also abandoned my cardi knitting to knit a hat for my friend's baby who was born last night. Her name is Florence and she is gorgeous
I won some lovely supersoft merino wool a while ago, so I'm making her a simple hat in bright green and pink with a turned over brim. I'm going to try adding leaves and a flower to the crown of it.
mcculloch29 I hope you are ok after your fall. Can I ask what you put in your bacon broth? It sounds like it would be right up DS2's street.
I can't remember who it was, but I wanted to say that my DH is on call one week in four and he has strict rules about how many hours he can do without a break and he just says that he is going to sleep and he is not to be called. I also think that there are rules about how many days you can be on call without days off. It is definitely worth looking into. HTH x
I now want syrup sponge for dinner and I have to eat properly as I have only been able to make myself snack today. I promise that I will eat a proper dinner and talk to DH if I have problems doing it.
Take care everyone xxx0 -
SDG- its jems OH who is called out at all hours with no down time, I thought there were rules as my OH cant return to work within 12hrs, and his employer is not the best in the world, so it must be a fairly strong rule.
Fuddle - I have no idea where it came from I just know I always have it there, must be a while back, I always assumed it was someone on this thread who told me0 -
I am racking my brains here trying to decide what to get son il, not easy. Also having a break after shortening the feet on hm socks, took 9 full rows off and re-did the toes, much better fit now
Very cold outside all day but raspberries came and I went to allotment to plant them, also did a few jobs so now absolutely finished up there. Lots of nice cabbages to pick over next few months also winter spinach, sprouts, kale and chard. Had to bring trowel and bits home to wash as the mud is sticky beyond belief
Will try and get bedding and towels washed next week, probably tuesday but wlil be putting washer timer on to get a load ready for 8 am
Flaxseed crackers turned out great, non carb too. Will have one with a little cheese and soup for tea so a good day for eating. Took a leaf from nigel slater and did a fridge day ie all sorts stir fry for lunch, no meat just a few anchovies and pine nuts plus veg. I have a chicken in the fridge and had a whopping success with one in the dutch oven, sat it on a few veg on a trivet plus 1/2c wine and a few herbs, close fitting lid on and cooked low for 2 hours. Really tasty and did stock plus 2 meals plus sandwiches, so will cook the chicken like that tomorrow, maybe followed by steamed syrup sponge0
