We have a Korat which is an ancient Thai breed and supposed to bring good luck to the household...then we have her half sister the Borat. She is a Burmese/Korat cross breed, hence the "Borat". That is her breed, not her name. She is the naughtiest cat in the universe. She has managed to climb on the bay window roof and get stuck, she climbs all the doors in the house, she visits my friend who live three houses up the road, eats their cat's dinner, batters their cat and then sleeps in their cat's bed. I wouldn't let her in but they seem to like her. Since we've bought a hamster we've had a little peace and quiet as she sometimes likes to go and watch the cage in case the hamster escapes.
She's eaten two cat beds, several fleece blankets and is now working her way through her radiator bed. When she falls through it she isn't having another. Neither of them are scared of water and it's a bit disconcerting to have a cat swinging out from the clothes dryer in the bathroom, over your bath full of water and back again.
Apologies to cat haters. I bought the first cat as a friend for the house elf when his dad died. It then seemed like a good idea to get a friend for cat number one. How wrong can you be :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:
Please post your photo of said cat hiding out in your xmas tree - really makes me chuckle xxI must not fear. Fear is the mind-killer.
Fear is the little-death that brings total obliteration.
I will face my fear. I will permit it to pass over and through me. When it has gone past I will turn the inner eye to see its path.
When the fear has gone there will be nothing. Only I will remain.0 -
I'm another cat lover, we all are in this house (that's why DS1 got so upset seeing a stuffed cat in the museum yesterday) - currently typing with stripey cat washing me. Love the naughty cat tales (check out simon's cat on utube - a fellow mine toughie gave me the link before) mine aren't that bad but stripey boy cat goes into next door and eats their cat's food and snuggles up with their girl cat in her bed
.
I'm a Londoner born and bred so love London though glad I don't live there now or have to commute in (though DH does poor love.) I loved the Harr*ds windows but wouldn't make a special journey to see them. Went to Harr*ds many years ago with my mum, we dressed up especially but I have to say we didn't like it, too snotty and when we got near the fur coats (just to see the price tags, would never buy real fur even if could afford to) we felt very uncomfortable like being watched like suspected shoplifters. Needless to say didn't buy anything, I don't get the brands thing. I was brought up going down Walthamstow Market on a Saturday!
Never said this before - I have Geordie blood Fuddle, Pops and other NE toughies. My dad was born/lived in Co Durham and mum spent half of her childhood there and her mum was from the north. Family holidays (summer always, Xmas and/or Easter sometimes) were always spent in Consett where my beloved grandma and my uncle lived, remember Whitley Bay, Cullercoats, Stanley, Hexham and lots of other places very fondly.
oooh gotta go, DH finally up, he had a lie-in as hasn't been sleeping well and he wants to use his PC

Cranky - they sound incredible, we have three moggies now who were all kittens of one of our older cats, we gave all but two kittens away but the third one returned to us last year when our friend moved and couldnt keep her. Our boys are all very laid back and placid, although one we are trying to keep in as dementia has set in. Our returned girlie though didnt have a brilliant last few years being terrorised by a dog and the two months before she came back she was left in house alone with a neighbour throwing food in.
So she is much more highly strung, hates dementia boy and growls, snarls and attacks him at every available opportunity. She will bite DD6 friends if they touch her and then plonk herself on a bed (major no no in our house -OH is phobic about cats and bedrooms). She has arguments with OH when he tries to move her, she will sit and actually argue with him - its the strangest thing I have ever seen, cos he argues back
OH says he remembers now why we gave her away!:rotfl::rotfl:
Oh at work today so am attempting a big clean up, the week has been so hectic very little has been done and next week is worse, I have at least one meeting a day, and most days there is at least two.
Have to go out to shops today as DS14 and I searched loft last night but couldnt find spare baby gate, so off to purchase another one. No idea how DS8 managed to break it but it holds dog in check and means the kids can eat without dog clearly their plates so its a definite need. He has so far cleared the bin this morning, got past us into the utility room and rifled through cat litter and has cleared two plates of toast. For an 11 year old he is mighty fast!
Possesion I seem to think that lemon juice will clear the garlic smell, I know I use it when I have been chopping loads of garlic and my hands smell.0 -
Good morning
Cold start to the day here, feet are freezing.
Trip to town for us today, decided to clear out the children's ds games that no longer get played with.
On the subject of Christmas, my boys do not get huge amounts and have been happy with what they get, last year they had more than previous as their dad chipped in to buy the older 2 an iPod. This year the last 2 months have been good for bargains as such coming our way, ds1 has a psp a good friend of mine brought via her friend for around half what they go for on ebay, ds2 I managed to get his things via argos 3 for 2 on toys and a £10 gift card and ds3 has a car via maplins (sisters discount :j) my dad and stepmum have said that as things for them are also hard this year that we are not exchanging big gifts (any ideas as I'm stumped for something little that they may like)
Apologies to all I am reading posts by time it comes to replying my head is fuzzy. Lots going on but hugs to all those who are in need of them and keep warm I feel we're in for a bitter winter.Debt free

Lemon juice is a good idea thanks Kidcat, am going to rub the floor with it and then clean it (again!).
DD has gone off to a birthday party (potter painting) and DS and I have just boxed up all the halloween decorations to go back in the loft. Today's job is to sort out DH & I's big Wardrobe of Doom. I'm a bit scared already. Should also go to the tip.
For those with kids to buy for there are some even better deals than usual in the new Book People catalogue. Look here for free delivery codes

Wow, what a burst! Welcome newbies! I posted a link to this thread on the make do one in case those who lurk or post irregularly can't find us.
Re Disability Living Allowance. It's worth trying for but a word of caution. This is not easy to get, particularly for new claims. I have a lifetime award for higher rate mobility; what got it for me at the end of 2009 was a severely arthritic hip.
From the experience of others on the excellent Ouchtoo forum many with really marked mobility difficulties are turned down. The criteria for higher rate DLA for mobility is "unable to walk or virtually unable to walk".
However, I have an underlying disability of a mild form of cerebral palsy, hemiplegia, (which caused the hip problem in the first place). That never caused me too many problems other than poor balance and tripping more than most, but now my balance is rubbish and I have frequent near falls - and sometimes falls, when my stick slips or fails to hold me.
The hemiplegia strengthened my case considerably. I am able to cope more or less, in the house so I didn't get an award for care.
Higher rate mobility with no care award is a fairly unusual combination, but there's no way I was ever going to appeal it, as my other award may have been taken off me.
The higher rate mobility also entitles me to disabled persons' working tax credit and prescriptions paid for, thankfully.
I was going to post lots of other thoughts - but the ironing is looking at me! I've got a high stool I lean against to do that.Erma Bombeck, American writer: "If I had my life to live over again... Binns is still there(but has gone back over)we always went there but now I doubt that I could think of a reason to go inside(I have but that is how I discovered it is not what it was)the book shop was Dressers...that dept was upstairs(that shop went a long time ago)
Over the road now there is a Waterstone's but I think that arrived after Dressers had closed/was not the reason for it's closure.
TBH Darlington's retail area has gone back over and is nothing special."A government afraid of its citizens is a Democracy. Citizens afraid of government is tyranny!" ~Thomas Jefferson
